  1. In the open on Erie a few years ago Cody fished side by side with Aaron Marten, "the king of the drop shot" and he doesn't even hold the rod most of the time because he wants the rod as still as possible. Food for thought
  2. Find a spot out of the wind and drop your dropshot down in the crystal clear water. Put the rod in a rod holder so the weight is just on bottom and then look down and just watch your kitech. You will see it moves naturally on its own as it is neutrally bouyant. The ned floats straight up on the mushroom jig head but it too moves subtly on its own as it rocks on the mushroom jig. Then carefully watch as a buddy jigs them and you tell me which looks natural and lifelike. Same thing as getting a perfect drift in a river or stream where the bait rides along in the current and it's because you don't do anything but let it drift that it appears natural. Bass fishing is a far more finesse game these days unless you hit a day when they are exceptionally active. If you really want an education in bass fishing do some bass nation tournaments as a co-angler and it's like a cheap guided trip...or hire a guide. Many of the tournament anglers are guides also. I got the boys into bass fishing as kids and now they both do tournaments on their own boats. They have taught me far more than I figured possible and they certainly didn't invent the techniques...they learned them fishing tournaments.
  3. Can't beat the helix! I have the 9 and the mega 12 and they both are excellent.
  4. Try a ned rig for smallies, and use little kitech plastics on your drop shot. The biggest misconception with either the ned rig or drop shot is guys think you have to jig them or add action shaking it. Just drag them subtly along the bottom and pause. Both can just sit absolutely still and catch. The ned is the latest and greatest right now and I still can't believe how easy it is to fish. The kitechs will move very naturally in the water without any help.
  5. Kevin you're a machine! I have a few tricks up my sleeve for fall. Our troll bite isn't what it was last year, but you should have a rematch with the lake. You really don't have to fish crazy hours in cold weather to get walleye. Here is a 30" from 2 weeks ago. Was a bluebird flat day....
  6. Nice work bud! They don't look like walleye though!!!
  7. I fished the moon overhead and the eclipse yesterday. It was anticlimactic to say the least. Landed 1 eye and 1 smb....lost 4 or 5 others. I was wishing I didn't sleep in to fish the eclipse.
  8. Baker baits are of the highest quality and if you are fishing ski's you should have a few. Great pics Zach! Still tough here but we are getting a few....nothing like last year at least for me.
  9. Nice job guys! Beautiful fish and what a pig!
  10. Can't say alot about the other fingers but otisco probably has the best walleye fishing and it hasn't been fishing well since the flooding. Water has finally stopped going over the dam and fishing is just starting to improve a touch. Ill bet the other lakes have plenty of water and dissolved oxygen as well and they too are probably trolling tougher than normal. Fish are much deeper this summer and are spending a lot less time above the thermocline active on otisco at least. Based on what I'm seeing if head to Erie if you are looking for numbers. Last summer you couldn't have paid me to leave otisco for walleye.
  11. I feel your pain! What you are describing happens way too often. It's so simple really...NEVER approach another boat on plane by aiming right at it. Always show the other boat a little courtesy and show them you see them. I have lots of friends and acquaintances that will come pay me a visit on the water and several I didn't recognize have had me worried on their approach. He may have thought he knew you....still not how it's done if you arent an idiot. We need mandatory boater education for everyone.
  12. If you are really hardcore with walleye Oneida's little walleye probably won't scratch your itch.
  13. There are modest cabins in the campground as well.
  14. Otisco is just south of Syracuse and next to skaneatles. Id be happy to get you and the family out on the pontoon for some fishing and sight seeing. Oneida is nice as well but it isn't a small lake and it gets rough. With the wind there is a lot of days you can't get out.
  15. Where are you located?
  16. Nice work bud! Release those names so everyone knows who they are. Congrats
  17. Couple of tigers today casting, but nothing noteworthy 28 and 31. Walleye continue to be nearly impossible during daylight trolling.
  18. Lake is finally stable but fishing hasn't been easy since before the 4th. Hopefully a summer troll bite develops soon. As of Sunday a lot of fish were on shore just outside the weeds on the drops. If they haven't moved off shore for this weekend I'm gonna be jigging. Fish are tough to troll where they have been. Marked a bunch of tigers deep as well but couldn't budge them.
  19. I went out about 6 am on a combo troll. We caught a few smb ,a few browns, and lost 1 eye. I've gotten a few tigers in recent trips working outside weedlines where the water drops off quick leaving weedlines you can easily follow. Long casts, downsize and fish slow if you have to....
  20. As Ed said wrap in paper, double bag and throw away. I do this twice a day all summer and I'm not gonna say the campground dumpster is exactly pleasant but it isn't an issue. Done properly the rest of the garbage is far worse smelling. I could take everything back out on the lake, but I don't agree at all with dumping really ANYTHING into the lake I love!
  21. Greenhornet, Lake isn't trolling easy at all right now, but if it gets any bit consistent I'll show some stuff. If you choose speed dependant methods like lead core, jets, clip weights etc you need a fishery that precise depth control isn't necessary....not otisco! I don't think you get your speed consistent enough with a light kayak. A plug program is near as fussy.
  22. Debris here last night and again this morning as well.
  23. Both launches are 24 hrs now. Build it don't build it not sure it will make a big difference.
  24. The everstarts work fine. The warranty works as well. I only get 1 season but they replace them. I drain my batteries way down every trip and after 75 charges or so the performance drops a bit and after 100 I don't have enough reserve. I run 5 on my boat and we have 4 in each of the boys' bass boats. Compared to other batteries in the same price range they are cheaper and about as good.
  25. Basically any trolling spread is designed to cover your bases. Cover the column you have to work with likely patterns, ie perch, alewife etc and let the fish tell you. I know you troll otisco some and I'd be running at least 2 rods off boards. 2 lines is plenty of you have a pattern that's working, but it's not enough to figure it out on your own unless you start trolling in the middle of the night. If you aren't running a full spread with boards or know exactly where, what, when and how it's gonna be poke and hope at best in daylight on otisco.
