  1. I heard many reports that sounded similar. I was at Otisco from Wednesday till Sunday night and talked with tons of bass fishermen and only 1 boat in 10 even saw a tiger and didn't hear of 1 bass guy hooking one and heard of just a couple landed all weekend. Walleye weren't any easier. I fished both nights till dawn managing just 5 walleye and that wind kicked my butt! Spent quite a few hours scouting at night and didn't see one tiger which is rare. The cold front didn't do us any favors either. We caught lots of big smallmouths... Couple warm days and no more rain would be a start.
  2. Was quite a site! Good mooring lines are important Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  3. Weather will be nasty everyone better stay home...prob be bad fishing anyway! I'll let you know if you missed anything! Sent from my SM-G935V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I agree with kevin. I think the high water is a good thing. Sent from my SM-G935V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. I use the fg knot for braid to leader on casting/spinning setups. The fg is the only castable knot i know and works in the smallest micro guides as well. Barrel swivel for all trolling. Sent from my SM-G935V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. I'll have my ice fishing suit on I'm sure! Sent from my SM-G935V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. If you are headed this way Gill-T I have room...just Landshark and I Friday night. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  8. The vmc snaps are great for trolling, but you won't get nearly the same presentation casting with the clips. If she were using heavy tackle and musky sized stuff I'd say go that route, but the senko is a phenomenal finesse choice and im sure you will take bass bites away from her unless you tie on. If shortcuts worked as well they would be called the way...Knots can be a pia especially with heavy flouro, but I tie EVERY casted lure. Having several rods prerigged is an option as well. 9. My grills are available and Id like to donate a trip for the kids raffle. Also if you guys want coffee early before the store opens I have a commercial coffeemaker I can have ready. The cabins supposedly have ac and new beds now though I haven't checked them out personally yet. The men's room and showers have been remodeled as well. I can print a flyer for the store for you guys if you would like...Just let me know if there is anything else you guys need and nice work on this year's events. 10. Otisco for me...Was up there yesterday checking on my boat and rv. Everything is fine and I'll be ready. Greg, What's the new boat? Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  11. Ditto on the good woman and you have to love it! 21 more days till I put the tools down and I can't wait to go to the job I love! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  12. Love what I'm hearing!! Ill donate a half day trip to be raffled between the participating children, and I'll do it for your Otisco event as well. Nice job guys Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  13. You aren't alone on wishing a few streams were closed for spawning. Several sections of the southern tier rivers are closed for all fishing during the walleye spawn. Makes perfect sense to me! I encourage people to keep a few fish for the table, but allow fish the best chance at reproducing every year ! 14. I can't understand the thrill and excitement of targeting spawning fish of any kind. Combine that with the fact that lifting/snagging isn't fishing and I have no reason to be there. Ive been hitting the reservoirs in the Catskills in April for browns instead. No people as long as you stay in the reservoir and plenty of action. 15. I have the same passion and did go full time during season, but I'm self employed and I work awfully hard in the winter so I don't have to count on a paycheck from fishing completely. I also spent 5 yrs saving and taking everyone I could find for free to learn the job...And it isn't really about catching...The fishing is the easy part! You better love taking people fishing more than fishing or you're in trouble. You can be the absolute best fisherman in the world hands down and that doesn't make you a good charter Captain or guide. I wouldn't even consider your idea if a constant stream of income like a normal job provides is necessary. 16. Otisco is good lake for kids and close to you. There is good early season shore fishing as well. If you decide to give it a try pm me and I'll do my best to help you out. Whitney point is another good choice, but has a 25hp max. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  17. Nice work guys! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  18. It really isn't that hard to learn to fish both handed....Isn't an issue unless you spend at least a couple days a week or more on the water. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  19. Fishinlslife, I use the off shore clips (red with the pin) and anywhere from 1 to 3 ounces on the weight. I keep the weights close to the surface and they collect the weeds. You still have to run your lines alot to be successful, and as Ivan said some areas will usually be blown clean. On Otisco the west side has far less floating weeds as the wind is usually out of the west at least a little. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  20. I use both and taught my son from day 1 to fish both. You may not believe it at your age, but a day will come when shoulders, elbows, and hands ache and cramp up when fishing and switching from left to right or vice versa makes the day enjoyable. Reduces fatigue dramatically. On the tournament bass scene you fish long days a and day after day. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  21. Down rods will keep your lures clean. Riggers work for weeds as well. I use clip weights just 15-20 feet away from my inline boards just to collect the weeds and the lure will still dive to the desired depth. I'm not on Chautauqua but Otisco is just as bad with floating weeds. Whatever lures you choose to troll defeating the weeds is the first step. 22. The auto chart is really easy, but you do have to buy the auto chart pro if you want more than 8 hours of mapping. The mapping is why I went with the helix. The Garmin is a great unit as well. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  23. What didn't impress you about the helix? Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  24. Ditto on the helix! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  25. I'm glad you went that route and that I could help! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
