  1. I have LED strips under the gunwale for deck lighting, but I don't really use it for fishing. Here is a pic of my mast light. Kinda hard to see them on top of the mast and under my otters. They light up my whole spread and the rear deck. I net using them trolling. Casting at night I'm blacked out except an anchor light.
  2. I have mast led mast lights that work awesome. I bought the mast caps from GLP and added LEDs on them, they regular lights originally. I might have a pic somewhere I can post, but the boat isnt stored here Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  3. I run them every day all summer and love them. I run 4 a side routinely with deep divers and clip weights and I can get them so far away from the boat you can't hardly see them when I'm the only boat around. I run every line at a different depth with the shallower lures on the outside and deeper on the inside. Longer on the outside as well. You can check any line and put it back in your spread without touching the other rods. If you really want to see how to use them take a charter and you will learn a ton. I've added dot reflective tape to mine and during lowlight or dark they are super easy to see with my led mast lights. I do use big boards as well but prefer the churchs' walleye boards on walleye. 4. Personally I wouldn't pay half that for that motor...4 stroke is the play for sure and you should find one for similar money Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  5. The ultrex will push your boat 2 mph very easily unless you are into much wind. I use both motors simultaneously alot as well. The 24 volt will also work fine. I used a 24v terrova for 5 years before I upgraded to the 36v. The auto pilot is awesome and I think you would get good use of the spot lock gps anchor as well. My boat is a bit too big and catches too much wind for the spot lock to work well for me unless it's fairly calm, but it will be great on your boat. Good luck and let us know how you make out! 6. Welcome aboard! You might want to consider a trolling motor that you can troll with as well as cast from the front. Might make it possible to skip the kicker. I use a 36v terrova to troll and I know many other guys doing the same. Also gives you auto pilot. The new ultrex is a fortrex but has the I pilot link. If you ever make it to Otisco I'd be happy to help you out. I live on the susky as well. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  7. If you lose a knob or clicker just call parts n service for your brand and they will send you a couple for free. Okuma is very easy to deal with on parts Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  8. Common sense...Bit more rare than sixth sense, but catches plenty! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  9. Didn't realize you posted your TM and didn't recognize your handle so when I read the post I thought my son has the same TM for sale. Then I looked at the pic and for a second thought geez this guy has the exact same boat as my son! This trolling motor has new cables and pulleys and the "cool foot" pedal. 10. If you are looking for additional fishing other than your charter along your travel corridor you drive right by Otisco lake, as it's only 9 miles from the exit. There is good shore fishing opportunities for tiger musky in daytime and walleye at night that exact time of year. I'd be happy to get you started in the right direction for doing it yourself from shore or take you if that's an option. Feel free to pm me with any questions. Also as mentioned above the captain you booked with should be able to point you to something as far as decent shore fishing. 11. Didn't seem like the place would be easy on anything! Just add ice... Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  12. Glad you made it off safely! Sucks about the gear but lessons are seldom free. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  13. The Lew's bb1s and the super duty wide both come in a 5.1 to 1 21 inches per turn. I think we have most every upper end Lew's casting reel and have had no problems. The new magnesium is sweet but I really only use the bb2 wides as I need the line capacity. My son uses the rest for the most part. Stay away from the Lew's lower end stuff and spinning reels as they are junk. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  14. Can't go wrong with the curado! Most of ours are Lew's, but we have curados as well. If you know an avid bass guy you should try before you buy. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  15. Good short action caliber and a solid deer caliber. Bit overkill for predators, but that's not a big problem. I'd downsize a little to 243/243wssm/25-06/25wssm for a combo deer predator hunting rifle. Little flatter for the predators, bit less recoil, and still works excellent on deer. 16. The flags can certainly handle deep diving cranks. I tried a set and they work fine if there aren't any floating weeds. The whole battle of trolling the smaller finger lakes is floating weeds. I deal with them daily and whatever strategy you intend to employ you have to be able to troll through them to some extent. 17. The thing I can't get over is being able to cast the knot even in a baitcaster without issue. Seems it would catch eventually in microguides, but it doesn't! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  18. Eyeslayer, Your braid is too tight. The braid should end up wrapping a straight piece of flouro/mono. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  19. I made a little jig to tie it at home and when I use it I have plenty of tension when doing the wraps, but I've done it river side and had hardly any tension and it works if you cinch it down correctly. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  20. The thinner flouro needs more wraps and light braid. Ive been running 8lb diameter seaguar premier on 4lb diameter braid in the river all winter. Nice job on the knot BTW. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  21. I've been lucky here in the southern tier. River has stayed open, fishable, and even managed a fish or two. I'm so busy now with work I don't have ambition enough to go last few days. Can't wait to put away my tools for six months and fish! First Saturday in may can't come soon enough! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  22. The plain walleye boards with no flags are what I run when I'm using inlines. You couldn't pay me to run the flags. The linkage grabs weeds and in the fingers weeds are an everyday battle. I'd get new ones with the heavy clip suitable for braid. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750
  23. Hang in there Steve! Best wishes for a speedy recovery from Tracy and I! Sent from my SM-G935V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. You certainly could use the fg to tie a leader to a Trolling rod. Supposedly it's stronger than using a swivel, but I'll be sticking with a barrel. Sent from my SM-G935V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Don't give up on this knot! The FG is THE KNOT for a castable leader. As far as what you are doing wrong id say you are doing something backwards! If you are in the Binghamton area I can show you how to tie it...Don't think I can explain it tho! Keep practicing it's quite easy once you get the hang of it and it works with the thinnest braid up the 65lb braid for sure based on my tests. Ive tied it twice in the dark on a windy night recently just to practice under the conditions I work under AND haven't had a failure. In fact we have had several snags and my leader is breaking at the terminal end and not at the FG knot.
