Lots of guys use just that...I personally haven't had good luck doing it though! Bottom line is we all use what we have confidence in and we all have a budget. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750

I'd avoid using line for leader moonfish. I realize it's cheaper but line is designed to be supple and castable, and leader is harder and stiffer making it much more durable. I tried several mainline flourocarbons as leader when I started and had issues with breakoffs. I switched to seaguar on the advice of many on this site and haven't looked back. I now use Seaguar for all my line needs. They have a great thin diameter mono, Senshi, that is excellent for use off boards where gaining some diving depth is helpful. You lose a lot of depth on deep divers if you use line diameters over 10lb(.0134") Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750

Taughannock doesn't like rocket launchers! My boat won't go out there either without disassembling my GLP system and launcher...I wasnt thinking about height issues. Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750 -

I went with a buddy and he launched his 195 Lund tyee no prob what so ever at Taughannock. How big a boat do you have? Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750 -
Seems like that Sampson school got decimated....Not just boats but even more so thru the ice! I've heard many guys say you can't impact a lake that size with anglers, but even if you can't you can certainly wipe out the population in a given area. Cayuga Grand Slam in January!
justtracytrolling replied to Nautitroller's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Nice work! Was out with Frisco Monday and that's better than we did! Only decent screens were in 300 plus and down 150 minimum! We had 2 dinks n 2 Lakers. I will say you couldn't have been warmer than us in his beautiful Lund. It was warm n cozy with the heat blaring! Definitely wanna watch the gravel bar on the north side of the chute. The most important part of shoulder surgery is selecting the very best orthopedic shoulder surgeon available. My father always said you know what they call the guy who finishes last in his class in med school...Doctor! My dad happens to be a Dr...not all doctors have ivy league education's either....Just saying! I had to go out of network and out of pocket for more than I wanted, but I got THE right surgeon. If you didn't have a long wait to be scheduled for surgery that's another bad sign as the very best surgeons are booked solid. I sure hope we never see another spill of that magnitude again. The spill was estimated at 1 fourth of that from the Exxon Valdez! My family has a place in the Adirondacks about 10 miles or so from Marks dairy that lost the 3 million gallons of liquid manure. The ammonia depleted oxygen levels and literally killed every single fish. Before August 10 2005 the section upstream from lowville was a fantastic float trip in a canoe. The owner of a local restaurant, memories, right on the river just a mile from the spill tells stories of cleaning up dead fish from the banks for quite some time. I gave up on it after the spill and started camping along other Adirondack waters. Last time I fished it was 2011 and there was still seemingly no walleye or pike, and any fish was noteworthy. I have to get back and float it again though I know it still hasn't recovered completely. The DEC said the mature pike were 20 years old! I sure miss it and the Adirondacks! Hard to make time for it now though! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750

I had complete reconstruction of my left shoulder in March of 2011 complete with grinding, screws, and several incisions. I knew I'd never draw my 80lb Hoyt super slam and had to buy a new bow, PSE dream season 60#, but by September I had given the 60# to my son and was into a 70lb dream season. Filled all my tags that year including a 9 point i have on my wall. So to answer your question yes you can do it...Mind you it was a very painful rehab, but my shoulder is still PERFECT! After my surgery I told my physical therapist I wanted an aggressive rehab to get back to work and I went 3 days a week with him really pushing me as well as doing exercises at home and I was back at everything way ahead of schedule but I pushed myself hard. Gotta do the other shoulder eventually, but after you go thru what I did I'm not in a hurry till it's absolutely necessary. Do your research as I've heard horror stories. I used Dr Federowicz in Binghamton as he came very highly recommended and wouldn't have anyone else after the success of my left shoulder. Mono backing on braid, wire & copper
justtracytrolling replied to UNREEL's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I was always told mono can crush your spool if stretched too much when spooled. Can't see how braid could ever do it, but since it's worked my whole life I doubt it's something I'll change. Also nice to know there is few other full time guys with confidence in the tape!!! Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750 -
Mono backing on braid, wire & copper
justtracytrolling replied to UNREEL's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I've put a wrap of tape on my spinning reels for over 20 years fishing braid and never had a problem. When I started trolling I continued this and still never had a problem. The line doesn't ever slip...Is there another reason to put the mono on? Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750 -

The point is the fish shouldn't have been pulled out at all! Most people who target muskies, and yes I realize this particular angler wasn't, want a pic of their catch and that is their trophy. Allowing the closed season hero shots makes it impossible for the DEC to enforce the closed season. All anyone needs to say is it was an accidental catch and they can fish for muskies year round. If the pics are illegal the cheaters can't post their hero shots so they have no reason to fish the closed season as showing off their pic gets them caught. LEXA HD-400 Series Musky Reels
justtracytrolling replied to BlueEye's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Look at the the lexa 300lc too...Casting and trolling with the same real! I've nearly bought the tranx several times and haven't heard any feedback from anyone I know. If anyone pulls the trigger on one give your impressions please Justin Okrepki NYSDEC licensed guide #7324 http://www.otiscolakeguideservice.com/ (607)-349-1750 -
I just don't understand the need to photo an out of season fish...And RONIX is spot on...By optics I meant the message it sends...Which is that as long is you put the fish back the CLOSED SEASON doesn't matter. I must be of a different time because I still don't like targeting bass out of season let alone musky or walleye. Simple if it's an accidental catch unhook and release as if you don't want to get caught holding it as it is illegal. Taking a pic holding the illegal fish is like convicting yourself. Steve I agree with you 100%, but I didn't want to be crucified for saying it!!! The optics are bad and it gives people ideas, and more than anything why stress the fish anymore than necessary when the season is closed. Steve and I didn't make the rules. The rules are real and they are meant for everyone!! Every year I tire of people targeting spawning walleye because they are too lazy to earn their hero shots.
