  1. In summer just troll the buoy line as Landshark said....they suspend and cooperate very consistently there...there are many summer posts with exact details for this type of trolling if you look back at previous seasons. Dont drag bottom...you want the suspended active fish...
  2. Hotter the better imo...makes it easy to eliminate water...not necessarily for easy release..nice job!
  3. Just Google it...Ohio has done the most research from what I see...
  4. I don't think keeping the biggest walleye hurts a thing. I've read several studies and all of them say the huge females produce more eggs for sure but fish in the 18-24 range produce more viable eggs and fry. If this is true we need to adjust our management practices. Maybe protect the 21-24 inch fish...what do you guys think?
  5. Kiwi grip is a great non skid choice. Chas The seacast transom we poured is awesome. The boat has been thoroughly tested on champlain, the fingers, Oneida, and slr in very rough conditions for some of the tournaments and Anthony's pushes his 200 hard. We all know how bass guys drive.... Transom is very solid!
  6. The first thing I/we thought of when we found the trap was...what else are these individuals doing? Anyone willing to build a huge home made fish trap and put it out isn't worried about seasons, limits, or breaking the rules! There is a creek that has a good run right there too along the same private property and there isn't anyone around then either....there are several other houses in that area that used to leave baited lines out all night every night. I snagged up their lines enough they quit.
  7. To each his own, but I fish for walleye because of the challenge and to eat them. I'm more in favor of catch my 3 and I'm done...in the spring and fall when I get into them heavy in shallow colder water then yes I might catch and release a few. I wouldn't even attempt to release a fish that was caught that deep with its bladder out of its mouth...I just wouldn't want to waste a nice fish. There are probably guys who can do it successfully though how you know the fish survive is beyond me.
  8. I removed my carpet and went with kiwi grip instead of vinyl. I love it so far...spray it down to clean....no slip...and cool to walk on even on the hottest days.
  9. They saw me find the trap and pulled it before the ECO arrived...I'll find it if it ever gets used again and the ECO involved has a plan to handle it....I had a nice chat with the same ECO Saturday and he ticketed the boat next to me for undersize walleye...no shortage of cheaters!
  10. 3 fish is plenty and 1 big fish is plenty! I too would love to see some data, but pretty sure it isn't out there. I'd be in favor of statewide 3 fish 18" for starters...and you don't get hardly anything filet wise off an 18"...but around 20-21 they add up. Harvesting the right fish to both utilize the resource and allow it to be sustainable, with an emphasis on the sustainable part! Err on the side of caution!
  11. Finally I have been putting up some valuable fillets in a consistent manner myself. Kevin, To demonstrate the lengths people will go for walleye I'll tell you all a disturbing story.... So back in May I had LOU members Salty Seaman, and Hermit out casting for walleye. We had nice pick going and I was pulling my anchor to move again and its snagged. After some heavy lifting i get it up and see I snagged a rope. I start pulling the rope to see what it is...after some real heavy lifting I bring up a huge fish trap....much bigger than a barrel. Hermit spots the hatch...I open it up and it's FULL OF FISH....biggest walleye was a sporty 9 pounder...I released the fish called the authorities. The sad thing is the rope went right up on private property to a house north of a half million dollars.....so yeah greedy people will do anything for a walleye! I'm so glad walleye can't be sold on our side!
  12. Landshark I know you wanted that tiger to swim, but we found several people to share the fish with and it certainly wasn't wasted. How's that heel?
  13. Many schools of thought on that topic....managing it for more of a trophy fishery doesn't really make sense to me...walleye are for eating...but managing it for long term sustainability is what we need imo. I have heard many arguments on how to do that and really have not researched it enough to have an educated opinion on the how...
  14. Great pic! And they sure were chewing! So Landshark was the winner by a landslide! He was the only boat to complete the challenge. His fish were 42 inch tiger (only landed tiger) 25 inch walleye 16 inch smallie 13 inch brown 75pts Nice job bud! Biggest eye was Wayne's 27 Biggest smb JGS' 20 6 boats 42 walleye landed this weekend! Nice work everyone! I had a great time seeing everyone.
  15. My biggest was 24...lost a toad and so did Pete... Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. 15 boated amongst 3 boats that I know of....biggest a 26 inch 8 pounder
  17. Walleye were plentiful! Great bite this morn!
  18. Went 2-3 on eyes so far and dropped a big smallie...had 2 swing n misses too
  19. I'm not sure how the bait gets certified but alewives can be bought certified in many locations. They are expensive enough to have made a trip to a lab! Lol. Steve is 100% right that it's a very serious topic. I can't tell you how many times I've called in cast netters getting bait illegally on Otisco....the ecos are too busy to do anything apparently.
  20. Nice work! Do you still have bait going at night? We've warmed on Otisco enough that the bait is done spawning and is balled up and the eyes have moved out...I've seen it hold on till mid August before though.
