  1. You are correct les! I have a working relationship with the ECO and would like to think I wouldn't have a problem when following the law to the letter. I think I'll bring it up next time I see him...I'm not a big bait fisherman anymore, but it is effective and some of my guests really do better with bait!
  2. Les, I've wanted to get my own bait on Otisco but don't for that exact reason. I buy it certified or more commonly snag it 1 at time and use it 1 at a time so I have no bait on the boat without a receipt period!
  3. If they are personally harvested and uncertified then everything he posted is correct.....but you CAN purchase certified alewives...in strips and live!
  4. Alewife are sold certfied but not on the green list. You are not reading the regs. correctly. Most of your post is correct.
  5. Les is correct. Alewives are not on the green list to be used anywhere in the state, BUT they are sold as certified bait for many specific bodies of water. Best bet is to read the rules yourself as we are all expected too
  6. The lake isn't fishing as well for walleye as the last time you came. They have just been very tough to pattern for consistent catching. Tigers on the other hand have never been better! Thanks guys...I'll take the results for sure pap! Not often you get an all big fish pattern...it's not Ontario or Erie 6-9 pounders are fantastic fish here! There are walleye all over the lake but finding the better fish and getting them to go...priceless! Lol
  7. Otisco Lake Challenge update... I have been out a lot and have info for anyone fishing this weekend if you want it pm me and I'll share exactly what I've been up to! Menu change to pulled pork instead of burgers and dogs. Clarification I do not care whether you release or keep any fish for scoring...I just don't want to force people either way...I just wanted a format that didn't force people to keep fish they would normally release. There is still room for anyone looking for a real challenge!
  8. I've been waiting 11 months for a summer full moon in anticipation of possible epic fishing like last July and August. I had Walt, the man responsible taking me for all of the hunting and fishing I did as a kid that wasn't on our farm, and his son Joe aboard to fish with my fingers crossed. We started at last light with a big off shore spread and got lucky with my chute rigger offering and it was THE pattern. By half way into the night we were running just 3 rods on riggers all set identical and went 6-9 with a few others that were gone before we could come tight. Doesn't sound too great except every fish was 6lbs or better on light gear (8lb) with short setbacks off riggers...CANT WAIT TILL NEXT MONTH! Not that we won't catch till then but the summer full moon bite is awesome if you can find a pattern! Monday night I went 0-2 after I wasted 3hrs trolling the spread that was lights out last summer. I learned just enough to have a place to start last night. The day moon underfoot bite wasn't too bad either today...1-2 on eyes and 1-3 on tigers 2 of them were 40ish and had several white perch, rock bass, and smb. I fished more water than I've ever as the weeds were ZERO. Lake was not nice all day to say the least, but flat all night! On a side note I was the only trolling boat all day and the ONLY boat both nights....
  9. What I see is the American way is people are lazy and just want it easy and spoon fed. They want to use their cell phone apps to get the info and expect an easy button to catch fish...that combined with people biting the hand that feeds them because of the anonymity of the forum, and all the lurkers who never have shared their trips certainly makes people who regularly post more tight lipped. I definitely think there are many regular posters across the entire forum who don't openly post many trips anymore....I know I want to know who I'm helping and what boat they fish from...the ones that I meet I usually send out with lures to use. Tournaments, derbies, and money definitely clam people up but lots of regular pleasure fishermen just aren't posting trips imo!
  10. Thanks Ed...I was on the right track but it's nice to have some confidence to stay the course long enough to get results instead of constant second guessing!
  11. She seems to enjoy giving the guys a good ribbing as much as catching the fish. Fun to watch
  12. I've actually been targeting them myself a bit here. My tourney is this weekend and we are scoring browns bass walleye and tigers. A multispecies weekend challenge...anyways I picked up a decent one Saturday evening. What temp are you focussing on? I'm getting plenty of smaller fish up high out of temp, but I'm still looking for a nice football and figure I have to work harder deeper with regular sized spoons as opposed to my little walleye spoons.
  13. I know of 2 giant pike hooked on tubes yesterday on the slr upriver fishing deeper pools fed by heavy current. Both fish followed the tube up from depths and then hit by the boat...the bigger one was landed and was over 20lbs...not that this is an easy pattern but if you want big toothy predators it's the type of scenario is look for...current breaks with depth and let your offering sink all the way down before working it up
  14. It was a pleasure having your family and so glad we got into em on day one! That tiger your father caught was an unreal fish and your daughters was a fine fish on spin tackle!
  15. Yeah definitely keep an eye out for nicks...the Seaguar is great stuff but it isn't wire.
  16. I'll ask the boys they are heading up to SLR tonight. I believe the remaining events are Henderson harbor and Oneida.
  17. Yeah this weekend is all closed...you get 2 more events...as with anything it's best to sign up early like winter! If you fish the opens even as a co-angler there are a lot of partial sponsorships out there available too. You can get most of your gear half off retail...rods...reels...etc
  18. The Seaguar blue label is excellent also but a bit thicker diameter for each line weight and cheaper. I think the Seaguar abrazx flouro mainline would work well too and cheaper yet.
  19. I'll get you the nation info...there are 2 stops left...this weekend is the SLR. The opens are around $400...bass nation is less than $100 I think for a co-angler.
  20. The dahlberg diving frog is an unreal frog bait worth buying! Tman you should look into bass nation events here in NY. Co-angling is a very inexpensive way to learn a ton about bass fishing. You get paired with someone in the boater division and then spend the day on their boat...the bass opens are the same deal but you fish 2 days on different boats but not so cheap...Cody and Anthony were both paired with elite series pros last open on Oneida...Cody finished 69 out of 200ish I think. You get plenty of 70-80 mph boat rides too...some on not so nice conditions
  21. Seaguar premier 15lb, which at 011 inches is just under 10lb diameter and I'd go 20lb if I were gonna be dragging structure and that line is just over 10lb dia at 015
