  1. I guess someone could freeze a critter and thaw later to skin. Toss the carcass in the lake and laker gets a foot. Just as likely as anything
  2. 300 yds is a long ways off! Don't sweat it
  3. Muskrat or kit beaver maybe that was hit by a prop...laker gets the pieces! That's my vote....great story either way tho...thanks for sharing
  4. I fished tigers pretty hard this weekend with a family I had last year for the first time in over a month, and though I had heard many good casting reports lately I have been fishing eyes. Otisco definitely didn't disappoint! We didn't land many but had plenty of action. Biggest fish was a mid forties on a jerkbait caught by an 8 yr old. If you are a caster and you haven't been here the last couple weeks you prob should get out there. Many reports of high quality fish being caught on a daily basis. Anyone wanting info is welcome to pm me
  5. There are plenty of waters with no restrictions other than the general guidelines...those Adirondack waters are among the worst to harvest fish from.
  6. I'm aware of all of those factors....I carefully remove all fat and belly meat myself....and eat a ton of fish...I eat a salmon or 2 and a steelhead every year but beyond that there are better places to harvest fish from!
  7. If you read the NYSDEC health advisories you shouldn't be feeding any fish out of lake Ontario to your family....of course someone will say I eat them and I'm fine...but I'm not interested...
  8. Do you have the drift paddle for your power pole? That will let you control your speed well....there is a downrigger attachment too if you wanted to get 1 line down out your way 8-10 feet. Cable steer tms don't work to well to troll...if you were gonna do this very much I'd get a detachable tm mount and an electric steer for trolling
  9. For you finger lakes guys that have to battle weeds and prefer to run big boards, but can't take the fire drill that happens when you run a big board into a mat...the keels I designed for my otters are weedless and something you can make yourself. I ran them several times now and haven't had to bring them in 1 time to clear weeds off them.
  10. I wouldn't worry too much about what someone else does somewhere else...you are catching some awesome fish in some amazing country...you are putting a lot of people on fish too!
  11. The alewives are in full lakewide every night and day trolling is tough! Finding numbers of big fish at night is doable...catching them is like unicorn hunting many nights...but I'm hooked on the challenge...☺ As far as creel surveys go tell em next time to start checking the right boats! Walleye are not elusive in Oneida!
  12. Nice work! That program has worked well every time hasn't it? Tough here and then some!
  13. No release on the walleye required, I don't have a problem with any legal fish being kept...just don't want fish being kept JUST for a weigh in. The tournament this Saturday requires a live fish brought back for weigh in
  14. Yes there is a derby from 6am to 5pm...my event isn't open to the general public...just a few guys from LOU. Tough hours when the bite is on from 8 pm to 5am...I'll be fishing by 6am...
  15. Awesome pic! Nice work! I have to say i prefer morning trips over all others....but I'd have to troll and I love casting for them so its all nighters every spring and every fall when it's time.
  16. Are you going with a 36v? Just upgraded to 36 myself....I'll have to sell my 24 too at some point unless I throw it on a river boat...
  17. My son lost a giant walleye 2 nights ago...had it to the boat twice but couldn't get it quite to the surface for me to net...can't get the image out of my head. Fish are in...
  18. Check out the post in the walleye section. Major format change this year...we will be scoring browns, smallmouth, tigers, and of course walleye. This is a catch and release event except for the walleye....
  19. One change on the format...we will use half Of the tigers length for score...i want a big walleye to be the highest scoring fish Of the 4 not a tiger tourney. Of course 1 man team is fine....picture taking is tough tho...what about pcpete?
  20. I have decided to change the format for this event to increase participation and make it more interesting. The new format will be a catch and release multi species team tourney. Dates 7/23 and 7/24 Fish either day or both $30 per boat. Tournament hours are 12am 7/23 thru 2pm 7/24. Cookout after I'll provide burgers, dogs, soda, and water. Each team can score their longest fish of each of the following species: smallmouth bass, tiger musky, walleye, and brown trout. 1 point for every inch or part of an inch except tigers where we will use half the fishes length. All scored fish must be of legal size. All fish except walleye must be released to score. A pic on a bump board for each fish. Add the points from your four fish and that's your score. We could have big fish for each also. I really like the idea of more to fish for than walleye, as they can be brutally tough to get. I also felt we had to open up hours as trolling at night can be far more effective with a lot less gear and moon will be nearly full. 21. An infrared grill or a foreman grill both work well. Excellent with shrimp or scallops too.
  22. I serve a pile of them at the walleye get together I host! Last year it was 9 lbs of bacon and bout 30 lbs of walleye...I get asked every weekend by someone in the campground...when are you doing more bacon wrapped walleye.
