  1. Bleed those summer fish and put em on ice immediately and they will be nice and firm by the time you hit the dock. The crappie the kids get outta 80+ degree water from my dock i throw in ice water alive and they are just as firm as ones caught thru the ice. Largemouth eat fine....Growing up it was my favorite out of our ponds!
  2. That's really slow even for walleye...pike, musky, tiger musky 3-4 mph is average...cold water 2 mph...and fast/aggressive would be say 5 mph...
  3. X2 and a major part of being an ethical sportsman is following the rules...if you arent its the same thing as snagging, poaching, and ignoring the limit. Each angler in his or her own infinite wisdom doesnt get to decide which rules to follow or which ones are important.
  4. I used a smooth eye bolt and ran regular planer board line thru it and wrapped the line on 2 hooks below it instead of a reel for 3 years on my homemade mast setup without a problem. Now i have the full glp setup and love it...but i doubt ive caught 1 single fish on the $2000 dollar setup that i wouldnt have caught on my homemade $200 setup...its just easy now....
  5. You must wear the inflatable 100% of the time if you want it to count as your coast guard life jacket.
  6. The 5 inch and 8 inch models fit in the holds.
  7. I have a 5 inch 2 8s and the 13 for musky baits. Vertical storage is the way to go for me...your lures hang dry and hooks dont touch so no rust or tangles. Plus no looking for the right box as everything is in one. The only draw back is its size...on my boat its no issue but on my sons bass boat its cumbersome as it doesnt fit in the holds. Also keep in mind it only fits lures that are 13 inches or less when hanging from the rear treble.
  8. Top the top of the classifieds or the unread list so the post is seen....
  9. If you ask the DEC the fry are all wiped out...there is some that make it and ive caught little walleye in years where no stocking occured.
  10. I dont mind if someone keeps his or her legal fish to eat or mount. Its not my place to say...i advocate letting them grow...i dont keep the walleye at 18 either...the states term for the fishery is put grow take...i wanna emphasize the grow part as there a limited number to take. 315 makes a great distinction between sport fish and table fare. The DEC manages the tigers as a trophy fishery especially considering there arent many places 40 inch plus tigers are regularly caught as they dont grow to pure musky proportions. To most walleye arent a sport fish though on otisco its plenty sporting!
  11. Lure looks familiar....seems to work at home as well as on the road! I cant wait to try the orange one you left me!
  12. For board rods or downriggers you certainly dont need anything special...a 7' ml okuma glt for 20 bucks works fine....
  13. Meathunter is coming around! I think he still wants to 1 tiger to try on the table, and that isnt the end of the world as they dont reproduce, but hopefully we will get the limit to 40 and then its much less an issue....hard to catch a mature fish if we dont put the immature fish back...
  14. X 2 for me bob!... stealhead has considerable more time on the river though than me and he is exceptional at jigging river eyes so the term results will vary applies here!!! How long has it been since you caught that monster tiger on light line (4lb?) stealhead....20+? Post a pic
  15. You run 2 bags off the bow...gives you more boat control when you fish solo or with only 2 during netting also. Im gonna start using them on windy days even though my boat trolls down for most situations.
  16. Well KING you know it all and I think ill take your well thought out replies to heart and start waiting for universities and the state to figure out the science so that a management plan is developed....wont be a huge deal as those two entities are probably well on there way to figuring it out. We should all prob catch as many as possible in the mean time while we await change. Sk8man Dont worry KING and his fellow state biologists will be starting a massive scientific study of Seneca perch issues and we dont need to rally support for the perch any longer....and he says dont worry because recreational fishermen know what they doing its tradition.
  17. Good reminder if nothing else for anyone who doesnt have a 21 foot boat.
  18. If you want studies and proof you will have to wait for the fishery to crash. A proactive plan is needed...does that mean i feel the sale of perch is the main problem...no...there are several issues and they all need to be addressed. You cant have no regulations and sell fish...long term sustainable fishing will involve regulations...period. I dont mind the sale of fish...just not on a recreational license. As routinely mentioned on this forum the violations on recreational fishing are a slap on the wrist. Charters, guides, and commercial fishermen have a lot more to lose if they choose not to follow the rules and get caught.
  19. Surface temps on Otisco today: North end 38-39 Turtle bay 41-42 Middle of lake 36 South end main lake 36 Pond south end 39-40 My son never saw a fish of any kind or had any hits....the warm crystal clear shallow areas have nothing....shakedown on his boat went very well at least...i wasnt thrilled with him pushing thru some soft ice and slush to get out on the main lake, but he HAD to go scout and burn gas.
  20. I wanna take off tomorrow, but its not looking like great weather so looks like 1st saturday in may for me...
  21. You can now get out to the main lake....
  22. As of noon you can get thru the causeway a little ways but you still cant quite access the main lake. My son said 1 boat broke thru but the breeze blew ice back and debris. He thought perhaps later it will be opened up. With wind on one side and current from the othe it wont be long
  23. Andrew how slow can you troll down to?
