Amish Outfitter plastic planer boards
justtracytrolling replied to mrlhuntersrun5595's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I like the otters on the finger lakes just because im always dealing with weed mats and boat traffic. I like that i can quickly and easily reel them in...plus i do a lot of faster trolling and otters will do 4-5 mph no prob. I dont see why you couldnt use the amish ones...just make sure your mast is SOLID and 500lb braid for towline...nothing i wanna deal with!!! -
Ive only been going at night and have really only used big stuff...13 cm and up and suckers, but normally we get more big fish than we are getting fish! A few over 24 inches but mostly hammer handles. Im sure i could jig up a fish or two in several spots but the spots i associate with bigger fish in winter are slow...and to be honest im not trying hard to find em. Gonna try otisco this weekend.

Plans got changed but......

I learned the net thing first time on otisco....little fish fit fine in huge net...the other way around not so much...good report Rollie! Glad you got out... -

I see a huge difference between a charter license/guide license and a recreational fishing license. As far as documented facts go it seems prudent that they should suspend the sale of perch in waters where its seems there is a problem with the population. Dont wait till the fishery crashes. Commercial fishing isnt a free for all...it is highly regulated and its common to have a fishery shut down temporarily. This isnt about changing a way of life its about conservation so a way of life continues. Yeah i get everyone thinks there is too many regulations already...me too...but when you go into a for profit business situation there has to be regulations beyond supply and demand....

Awesome job Jason and all those who helped in any way. I know Im happy to be a part of it. Great to see sportsman get involved and support efforts aimed at conservation.

I have both hand calls and e callers and for coyote i use hand calls exclusively....fox on the other hand id get an e caller. Watch some videos and duplicate...warning though women hate listening to predator calling videos!....you have plenty of time to get ready for next season. Hunt new moons and super cold mornings when its crisp and calm especially after a storm or high winds...best advice is keep it to simple distress calls dont call much and be patient...also if there is a way for them to wind you they will try....if there's no way to wind you they usually dont come in....hunt the cross wind. You can get a hand call for less than 20 buck.

Red light makes landing way easier than white light. Warm water fish go ballistic when you try to land them in white light....

Even if you are on small water and know it well you can easily become disoriented. Fog, clouds, and storms can roll in and you don't see the warning signs. Im out at night a ton on small water and it still happens.

Small spoons off riggers, core or copper will keep you busy as well...oneida is full of fish and full of options...

Get 1 more rod holder for each tree than you will usually troll with. Set that holder as low as you can and use it for rigging. The rod im rigging goes there and after i get the release out the tow line i move it up to its. spot. Cant have too many rod holders!!! My trees are 7 feet but are mounted on the floor. I have run 2 chute rods from the rocket launcher and if i need to move a rod out of way to land a fish ill put it up. I have lures on and rods in the trees in the order i want them run when i leave the dock. The best part of the glp stuff is its all easily adjustable and upgradeable. It gives you the freedom to set it up for YOUR boat and for YOUR fishing. You arent pigeon holed and it simple to remove if its in the way if you use the boat in other ways.

A pontoon is really the only type of boat that i can fit a mate and 4 guests easily trolling, 15 is my max on lines also, and still not draft a foot so i can fish in real tight and not have customers casting at docks in the dark and i can fish super shallow sand flats. We do casting trips on the bass boat and thats great, but not with customers...as i dont want all my gear getting stepped on, knocked into the water, or have someone fall overboard. I considered a removable mast but its common to troll and cast back and forth fishing tigers. Ill troll from spot to spot or to give a tired caster a break. I have an 8x8 wide open casting area and i can shut the bimini if needed, but I've guided a couple flyfishing tiger trips and its not an issue with it open. It's all about boat position and using the wind to your advantage. Shallow water anchor poles help immensely allowing the caster to pick water apart with the wind at their back without the boat swinging. Im getting a bimini enclosure this year so i dont have to freeze at night...i dont get cold when im fishing but when im guiding i do!

Which is why im using everstart batteries at 75 bucks because if you really fish with your trolling motor you will run it down every time and no normal sized wet cell battery will last 2 seasons AND still last all day. The walmart warranty is 2 yrs...

The new larger knobs dont seem to fail, but if they do tony will send you them free no questions asked. My setup is the same except i have the reels on my trees and an 18 inch offset bar so the tow point is far enough in front of my trees that the rods dont interfere and i can reach the tow line with out a hook. My launcher is even higher but im 6' 3".

As humans think we can control and manage everything, but in reality everything is cyclical and nature is cruel when things get out of balance. We kill too many wolves so we have to reintroduce them...then we kill no wolves till they wipe out something man decides we need then we will drastically reduce the wolves. Its a vicious cycle of over reactions. Management and conservation involve moderation....not total protection or extermination. Seems obvious that the wolves will need some predation at some point just like it was obvious the elk needed predation before the wolf was reintroduced. If the wolf is unchecked eventually there wont be wolves or elk in the park....

Trolling hard baits for walleye will work well. I use perch patterns in various sizes. As far as casting hardbaits goes this is usually a night technique as usually walleye are too deep to cast to effectively during daylight. Blade baits, jigs, and jigging raps are easier to penetrate the column with. Diving baits are only at depth for a short portion of the cast as where sinking lures can cover more water when casted especially if you feed them slack. A lot of this depends on your boat, gear, budget, how much you plan on fishing, whether you fish solo, and what your goals are... For example if i had kids with me id troll downsized perch baits or troll worm harnesses to keep the action up and they wouldnt have to cast, detect bites, or set the hook. Conversely I personally prefer less off target catches and better quality fish so I prefer trolling big deep divers and on the fast side. There is no right way only a right way for you...there are some good guides on oneida that can teach you techniques that will fit your needs.

We have 3 blue tops in 1 boat...3 bass pro in another...and 4 walmarts in the last boat.
