  1. I like the guys from chapter 69! NO bad blood here!!!!! They have given me business and I enjoy the guys. It was 5 hours easy roundtrip to go to their meeting for me! I admit the roast beef sandwich was awesome...but not that good lol! Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Ronix is right also...unless somebody puts major time and money on the water AND open posts the trips its hard to say what gets caught. If I didn't post and didn't get esox only posting after he spent a couple days on my boat how many big tigers has anyone heard of out of Otisco. BTW there are a couple other guys that do well that I know that wouldn't share if there life depended on it. Now if we had 50 anglers on each lake doing a diary and fishing every weekend we would have some stats to compare... Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Also method of stocking differs...they scatter stock conesus by pontoon in open water up till last year...Otisco puts em in the weeds in 2 spots where they imprint and those 2 spots are where everyone fishes for em Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. is probably a number of factors... First we get 11-13 inch Browns stocked and I watch the tigers tear em at daybreak for a couple weeks after they are stocked every summer Second I've been told by 2 different region 7 biologists that the alewive population is insane on Otisco for size and numbers...supposedly better than the other fingers Third I've been told otisco receives the best and biggest fingerlings each year Lastly the stocking density is far lower in cones us The reason there is no walleye data for 2014 is we didn't get any....conesus was moved to every year stocking and we went to every other year
  5. To be perfectly honest John it should be a fishing club not a musky club, but gotta start somewhere. Just think all the trout guys help support the warm water guys and vice versa...it takes a loud voice for change. More stocking and more fishing opportunities for us to share!
  6. As sportsmen its SOOO tempting to get drawn into heated discussion, but here's the thing we are all on the same side. Yeah we all have our own selfish wishes....of course we aren't all gonna want the same fish stocked in the same water ...we will disagree...if you don't like how a water is being managed do something about it...or try at least. I have tried unsuccessfully every year to get more walleye in Otisco...can't be done by me is the answer...there are changes I'd like to see made in the tiger musky fishery management on otisco and perhaps I won't be able to change a thing but I am going to try. What I'm not going to do is argue on this forum anymore is argue over how to manage Otisco Lake. NYSDEC makes those decisions and if you don't like how it's being done make some calls and send some E mails, but don't argue with each other... it does nothing constructive. 7. Thanks Ivan...that is a possibility...I'm not sure how it works, but we have a few options.
  8. Back to the original topic of the true benefit of precise depth control....the benefit for me is simple...I have to know where my baits are at to create a spread that covers the areas of the column I'm trying to fish. The spread is a system that works together. Gill had a post about this a few months ago...sometimes the lookers from one line get caught by the next. Tough to set up a spread like that with out depth control....
  9. Tigerhunter and I would like to start a local musky conservation group. We aren't looking to infringe on chapter 69 and we are only focussing our efforts on working on very local issues. Issues like stocking pure breds, raising size limits, educational signage, and getting kids fishing. Trevor and I have both found we need a voice if we want to be heard. I'm not sure exactly how much we can really accomplish, but I intend to find out! Tigerhunter will be handling the paperwork/legal end of things and I'm gonna get a list of names together of guys who are interested and we will have an organizational meeting soon. If you want to attend this first meeting pm me your name and number. For now I'm just interested in guys who are interested being active members to help shape our club for the future. Feedback is encouraged!!!
  10. The tail dancers and deep tail dancers are without a doubt the lures I troll the most hands down, but they aren't nearly as rugged as most others. Any balsa bait isn't gonna be durable like the bay rats. I had 11 rapala's snapped between the hooks this year. Rapala's are basically 1 fish per bait on big fish. I have a whole box of broken rapala's I save for replacement hooks. That being said they work better than anything I've tried too....can't wait to try another way over priced new rapala's.
  11. I'd love a winter where otisco didn't lock up, but that's me being selfish.
  12. Are you still working the basic strategy I use? Just curious and by no means do you need to open post any details.
  13. Nice work! I almost texted you....decided I'll stay in the rivers!
  14. This charger is by no means a game changer it will take hours of running to charge me just like on shore. New higher amp hour batteries would probably be a better move.
  15. I have the charger you want made by minn Kota. The way it works is it reads the condition of your main starting motor and if it's good it splits the surplus from your alternator across up to three trolling motor batteries. Works fine if you run your big motor a lot and want your trolling motor batteries topped off. Think they run about 140 bucks and simple to install.
  16. Funny thing is Les walleye can suck the whole bait in and spit it without you even feeling it...especially if you are iced up. It's quite common on the lake for me to hear a faint slurp in the direction of a guests cast and see their line go a bit limp and say you're on set the hook. They land the fish and see it choked a 6inch stick and they can't believe they didn't feel it. Because they feed by gill flare the bait is pulled into the fishes mouth there is often no "hit" though if you are good you can actually feel the hard bait or hooks tick the teeth. If you think you felt it it's too late... When the slam it they are actually on before you feel it...the slam is them going back down...when they get very aggressive they inhale the bait hard and take off nearly simultaneously and those fish you never miss.
  17. Precision depth control is crucial for some types of fishing, as in working structure or fish that don't budge let alone streak. That being said I'm the type that needs to know where all my gear is...
  18. Chances are that fish was caught on the causeway and didn't release. Then some kids threw it in their fire.... In any case shore fishing is extremely hard on tigers. If the angler doesn't get in the water or isnt very careful the fish beats itself on the rocks along shore. I see it all summer...don't know what the answer is but the average angler on the causeway is ill prepared to handle a tiger and in their defense it's not like they are targeting them. The guys targeting them usually learn and want to learn to handle them well but a big tiger is far harder to deal with from shore....
  19. Good luck in Guyana Captain Larry...can't wait to see the pics... Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  21. I'm not that hardcore....I ran into lyketofish walking out, and I'm just picking my stuff back up! If it wasn't for Scotty I'd have quit when the whiteout hit. I get to fish enough I normally don't fish when I couldn't see to the end of my rod assuming it was light! Check out the max rap in this fish's mouth...the hook you see is the back hook...the front hook is buried. The other is back at Scotty's...him with the fish. Kevin, We have several spots with current in the river where we can often fish all winter. I'll bet sluggo is doing REAL well on em!!!! Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. I decided it was time to get walleye gear back out for the first time since october and make my first trip of the year. Scotty and I fished from 4pm till 10 pm hitting several spots with basically zero action till a nasty little squall kicked up and we started fishing a wind blown bit of riverbank. Scotty landed 4 eyes from 7 to 27.5 inches and a small pike in 30 minutes or so...finally I moved up where he was doing damage and promptly hooked a decent fish which I lost of course! Here is a bad pic of the biggest Scotty caught and I hope he sends me one of the better ones I took. Fish completely engulfed a max rap 11. Was awesome to get back out there.... 23. I personally saw several different guys with crappie that size this spring from Otisco...we dont get em near that size from the dock though. Anybody ever troll for em with long rods out in front of the boat like you see on tv. I have all the stuff just havent gotten around to it, but think i will this year. Pete, You better be fishing while you are in the keys!
  24. I was thinking August this year if we do it....the time to come is spring and cast at night, but I haven't had much interest in a night derby. If you and the boys wanna plan a spring nite trip I'll take you out Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. That's exactly what happens when you start catching pretty good...all the nightly harassment starts to make the finicky....though I never faithfully used the smelly jelly in those circumstances.... I've trolled using it day after day, but I'll try it for that...thanks...hiding the boat more and making casts that don't keep landing "on" the fish also helps this Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
