  1. You can paddle fast enough to run jets.
  2. Otisco is as scenic as any lake in central ny.
  3. Of course as soon as I say the fish have moved deeper my son caught a pig right in the narrows this afternoon on a jig n pit boss bass fishing. 4 go pros on board and no footage or pics....he got some really nice video of backing the boat in though! FishinNY Im combo trolling for more than one species and with a mix of deep divers and spoons so I'm not running at normal tiger musky speeds. I've learned that some times they are easier to catch when I fish for them as if they were aggressive walleye. Big baits and fast is very productive and fun, but a little stinger sized spoon trolled at the right depth will get results too. There is literally an infinite number of ways to catch em, but none are fool proof at least if you are talking big fish. I do still believe overall your best chance at a real big fish is always trolling deeper water in summer. Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Nice fish! Really a special day with your brother and a great bow like that. If we really want to be careful with fish we should take the hooks off! I like careful handling with wet hands way better than nets and bogos.
  5. FLX, My number is in my signature text, call, or pm anytime you get over this way. Walleyes come in all shapes...I've seen them hit 10lbs at 28 inches here and seen a 31 out of Dorchester that barely hit 9 lbs. Its really not a competition though it seems everyone makes it one. I talk to people everyday here who catch 4' plus tigers...i have yet to see a pic of one....if you post enough pics people come out of the woodwork to criticize. Every once in a while i get someone who wants to keep a tiger to eat and im certainly not gonna tell somebody what to do with their fish, but im not gonna post a pic of a dead tiger either. I dont even post pic of walleye hardly at all anymore. Makes me laugh to think of guys rushing to fish anywhere based on a pic of 1 fish.
  6. Last 2 days I've been cheating or stacking a couple great lakes copper spoons about 10 feet over 60 degree water and each troll i picked up a good tiger. First was a 39 and second fish i was solo and couldnt get a measurement, but it was a little better than the first. Speed was 2.5-2.8 but id have been a bit faster if the spoons would take it. Both fish came on the dropoff along the causeway. Weedline action has dropped off a bit for me and 20-25 feet down seems to be where the action is...the fish are deeper but they won't take the other deeper stuff. If its not well above em they dont seem to willing to commit.
  7. I've been fishing for tigers more and have gotten nothing but hassles every time i post pics....my website is all but finished and ill have a regular fishing report there....anyone wanting info for Otisco just pm me, im just not gonna have any open posted info. Numbers are off here, but Im getting quality fish every time out last couple weeks. Picked up another big tiger this morning solo.
  8. I haven't been posting much mostly because the walleye bite has been just about nil. It has definitely picked up on deep divers and we are getting a couple each time out. Last night we got a 24 a 21 and a 39" tiger on a stinger on spin tackle right at dusk. Ill try to get a few pics up later. Speed seems the key...2.5- 2.8.
  9. You know what you caught and thats all that matters. Who cares what it weighed that is a true giant walleye. Special fish dont need a scale or a tape measure to be special!!!!
  10. Went out with my son yesterday for the first time on skaneatles for bass and what a beautiful lake. We ran the length of it in his boat hitting just a couple spots as we didnt have much time. We found hungry bass and perch literally every where we stopped! Ill be back to troll it very soon.....no weeds and no boats at least on a monday. Temp was 72-74.
  11. Awesome fish!!!
  12. No fleas!
  13. Tough out there still....last night the eyes didnt come inside 20' based on my results. Today miss em and i teamed up and caught some nice bass and dropped a tiger or big eye.
  14. Great job Kevin! I'm hoping for a repeat of last summer tonight! The full moons were awfully good last summer. I love the f18 rapalas casting in fall and some in spring, but I've not had any luck trolling them....i still run em occasionally tho because it seems like they should work and catch bigger fish. I hope someone gets into a good one this weekend!
  15. Temps I had Wednesday pond. 87 Lake south 84 North 81 Down 25-28 70 down 33-36 60 Fish i got were caught early evening on a perch tdd9 down bout 25....nothing on spoons. Nothing to celebrate yet, but its looking trollable. Ill know more after this weekend....
  16. Great story and fish Les! Sounds like one of those experiences that you are glad to have someone to share it with....your story brought back a few surreal moments ive had.... thanks for sharing!
  17. I haven't been up this summer, but I've done very well trolling deep divers this time of year. Its actually good fishing and not that tough if you are a troller. I never had much trouble if weather cooperated getting a nice mixed bag of smallies, perch, and eyes working along the buoy line near the south shore launch.
  18. RD9 couldnt agree more about the taste of the bigger fish!
  19. More importantly nice job!!!!
  20. Not easy getting them on bait! Devo is right about different water....just because the eyes are feeding the same bait the same way doesn't mean the same exact lures will work. Otisco and Owasco are very much alike but the best lure for my buddy kevin on Owasco doesnt work on Otisco when he comes to fish with me and vise versa. The technique is the same but finding the magic lure that works is another matter. If it makes you feel any better neither Kevin nor I did as well as last year fishing the bait. Fish were there but it was very tough too get them to go. We all want to think we have it figured out but its tough to get success to follow year after year fishing the exact same spots the exact same way and then if you are on different water too....takes a lot of fishing to get anything figured out! Harnesses work everywhere and so do sticks/deep divers and so do spoons. Believe me there is someone out there doing it each way successfully on almost every walleye lake out there...and by the same token there are 10 guys doing it each way unsuccessfully also.
  21. Try catching one where there is unlimited bait!!! They are elusive anywhere where they are well fed and bursting at the seams with fat!
  22. I agree with Kevin in that I just dont get guests that want to release any legal walleye. It's certainly easy enough to throw some back for those of us who fish eyes hard all season, but for the average angler who doesnt catch a freezer full it isnt likely he or she is going to release any. All I can say is its a good thing they are challenging to catch for the most part because if they weren't the species would be in trouble!!
  23. I think what you said about most fish cruising deeper this time of year is spot on in most lakes in my experience. I like the hot weather and warm water for toothy critters as I think it positions the bigger fish in predictable places and depths. I got into nice pike one august in cranberry with this approach of finding some deeper water and fishing near bottom.
  24. I always get a few tigers tight on structure, but I get em suspended and over weeds too. The biggest fish i get are always suspended over deep water. Otisco is loaded with tigers so you get em just about any way you try. The only hard part is if you want big fish....the best numbers come over the weeds with bucktails etc. You dont hear about many 40" plus fish caught that way though.
