Canandaigua Crazy sailboat driver!
justtracytrolling replied to chuck527's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
We all have to give each other a little courtesy as most waters are multiple use, but there's always a few people in every group from fishermen to skiers that just dont get it! I had a couple buddies out for walleye one night recently and a carp fishing boat comes along the shoreline with enough spotlights that we needed welding masks not to be offended. After several minutes i light him up with my spotlight....he gets upset because he can't see!!! I said thats what i was trying to show you!! The guy ended up doing the right thing and shut his lights off, went around us and started back up going away. New York desperately needs a mandatory standard boater safety course that focuses on safe and courteous shared use of our waters. -
I use it to troll structure...I depend on it. If you are in open water it is of absolutely no use. I also use it to find slightly deeper troughs that lead up to shallows. Walleyes use the deeper water to come in to feed and I set up to ambush them. If you fish structure imaging is well worth it. Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Answered my question while i was typing. Check miss em's posts from Oneida. He does well trolling stingers off riggers and deep divers off boards together. Captain Jeff gives all the details in his post to get you started. I also use a very similar spread there but havent fished it as recently as he and others.

Harnesses work very well trolled on any of the above mentioned methods, but often times off target catch rates are so high they are tough too fish imo. Great tool but deep divers and spoons will let you cover more water while you are learning. Keep in mind I'm trolling suspended fish and depth control and covering water are the keys. My recommendation is figure how like to fish for them most and then master that. Tough to be really effective with multiple techniques unless you fish an insane amount....at least getting started. Maybe on Oneida....Where are you fishing? Some lakes give you a lot more options...

It's definitely give and take...on the forum and with guests and even clients. I've learned from all the people I've fished with. If you aren't learning you won't stay on fish. The last 2 years are proof of that with the harsh winters we all have had to do things differently. BTW I did find em during daylight the very next day.....how did i do it? I used miss em's spoon program!!! I do it a little different as I'm not a fan of cheaters, but its his program. One of my favorite spots was a spot Johnny walleye showed me. I figured it out, but with help. Same with Tim and the fall bite. Working together we all got better. Not a tough concept... Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Thanks John I'd say the same about you! Walleye event is on for as many as show...I'll have food enough and plenty of beer I just ask you sign up or pm me. Anyone without a boat or partners let me know I'll do my best to get you on a boat. July 18th is the date. Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
