  1. Fleettracker is outta sacketts, and I know he's happy there...send him a pm.
  2. Been that way for a bit. Normally a south or north wind can work at the causeway, but not with the pond frozen. A good north wind can still position fish there though.
  3. Nice work! We've been waiting for some snow to run, but not waiting much longer.
  4. Jeff (miss em), You better be in! Jeff(meathunter), Ill get you on someones boat if I dont have room. Anyone else who isnt setup or boatless I will attempt to find a spot for you. For you regulars the big eyes in the rivers are starting. A buddy here on the forum got a 30" and my son a 28" this week" both on sticks at night. I havent moved a rod myself, but Cody's 28 was a pig and safely released.
  5. I happened to be Gander mtn today and its hard to believe how expensive inlines are....you can get 2 diawa spinning combos for the price of 1 walleye board! Just a flag kit is 10 bucks!
  6. If you pull hard pulling lures like reef runner deep divers, and especially if you get in weeds and structure you will wear out the rubber pads with braid. Snags really wear out the pads! In open water though they should last many seasons.
  7. Rollie, As soon as the fingerlakes events are scheduled can you post a list of possible dates for the walleye event. Id say anytime in july SHOULD work. I still like the idea of a night event in the spring also. Last I knew the campground is having a derby opening weekend of bass season also. They asked me to run i, but I havent heard much.
  8. We can all be guilty of losing our cool. I know I have, but there is fine line between constructive criticism and character assassination. We as members have to treat each other as we expect to be treated. Ive made some good friends and met some great people via this site, but Im tired of the bs mentioned above. I love reading everybodys fishing/hunting stories, but anymore I dont blame anyone for not posting trips because there are so many negative posters. We have to police our own....
  9. I'm gonna be there every weekend at a minimum, and if there is interest Id be happy to host an event. We have 2 choices: hope for a more typical summer and try another trolling event, or try it in may/june when walleye are a bit easier to target though this means night fishing. I had a great time last year even though the fishing was beyond tough for everyone except Miss em! I hope we can do it again!! We need feedback!!
  10. First, and foremost, great fish 1dogshy! I live on the susquehanna and live on Otisco most of the summer, and locals in both places tend to agree with final flight. Honestly, on the surface its a logical conclusion to jump to. We have a long way to go to educate sportsman as to the need for muskies and tigers. For a meat fisherman, the only kind of fisherman until recently, its not a normal reaction to want the huge predators. I personally agree with the musky consevationists, but I havent always. With a little time, patience, and a continued effort to educate anglers as to the pros I feel sportsman will continue to become more tolerant of the esox overall, and from what I can see both Otisco and the susquehanna have excellent numbers of these fish. This leads me to believe most people catching them arent killing them for the most part. old man pm me if you ever wanna fish the susquhanna Ill point you in the right direction. Just dont put that beautiful boat of your in the river!
  11. I bought 15 new okuma rods last spring at hill valleys and streams and their prices were competitive and their trolling rod selection is very good.
  12. Ditto what rick said....Ive caught some pretty big tigers and if the rubber pads arent worn out it wont release even when they take the board under. If you run braid you will wear out the pinch pad though. I use rubber shrink tubing to replace them, but this season late I didnt have any tubing on me so I put 1 wrap on and it worked great. I still prefer big boards, but there are plenty of applications where they wont do the job and my walleye boards do the job and well!
  13. Im a bushnell guy and use their Tactical scopes on my rifles, but a grand is alot for a shotgun. I like the Bushnell elites for muzzleloader/shotgun use, something in the $300 range. I stick with objectives lens 40 mm or bigger and went away from 1 inch tubes found on almost all scopes and have opted for 30 mm tubes found on better scopes along with a side parallax adjustment. As said above the best guns arent even average with cheap glass. As for Nikon and Leupold, both are excellent but if you compare like models there isnt any difference....upper end scopes will always do the job and you will never have a problem....conversely cheap scopes suck and I dont care which brand you look at. Another thing to look at is mounts and rings....dont try to save money there either! Id rather see a cheap gun setup with top shelf bases, rings, and scopes than a beautiful gun with low end glass!
  14. I have fished much of the adirondacks by canoe, and few of the bigger lakes by boat, and Ive only run into them in franklin falls pond, union falls pond, and tupper lake. I havent fished Great Sacanaga though. If you are looking to actually catch walleye, especially if you want to eat them, I would NOT go to the adirondacks. If, on the other hand, you want to connect with nature and the wilderness that is left all while having the challenge of catching eyes Id recommend tupper if you wanna troll and franklin/union pond for jigging. I can give you details for either. Its a long haul but if you want wilderness and walleyes in the US id head to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. I have alot of info for that trip too!
  15. Connor, Like Kevin said, we were in the process of hammering out limit after limit and then the lake dropped and ruined the spots I fish in the fall. I didnt post much after a few incidents ticked me off. Once the fishing in my spots went in the toilet I quit fishing and switched to deer hunting. No doubt the same fish were putting the feedbag on elswhere, but I had enough walleye in the freezer. On top of that nobody I know wanted to go out and put the work in to come up with a new spot for fall fishing with low water. I worked so hard to pattern fish with the strange conditions we had all season that I didnt have it in me. Hopefully next year will be easier. That being said we had our best season yet this year boating over 200 eyes! Ill be resuming fishing in a few days, but all on the susquhanna and its tribs, but I dont open post shore fishing as access is limited. You can always pm me and Id be happy to share.
  16. Nice mount Zack!! I was hoping youd post a pic of the mount as soon as I saw the pic last year. I too wish we had more quality walleye lakes and also feel there is PLENTY of trout water. Ive never fished Hemlock, but I spend as much time on Otisco as anyone and its very rare that an angler not targeting walleye catches 1. Our 5th wheel is close to the launch giving me an excellent opportunity to talk to other anglers and many come see me too and if my memory serves correct I remember 3 incidental catches last season out of EVERY person I talked to. Furthermore, even those who target walleye on Otisco dont catch many even though a few of us have little trouble catching a couple. On top of that the guys that know what they are doing arent talking or participating in the diary program. Ill bet there is more walleye in there than you think. Think about Owasco, it hasnt been stocked in many years and walleye are rare if you ask around, but for those of us who passionately target them they can be targeted at certain times with relative ease even with low numbers of fish. If you spend enough time out there at night you might be surprised, and by night I dont just mean after dark, I mean after midnight. This is not to say I havent done well after dark, at dusk, or even in the light. Im not saying we dont need more stockings or more fish, just that no matter how many you put in it wont be easy to catch them with the bait densities found in most finger lakes. If you fish for walleye in places without a huge bait source, rivers, oneida, etc, you will catch them easily and accidentaly. If walleyes were easy to target they would call it bass fishing or even trout fishing!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Made it out this evening for a few hours, but didnt see a thing. My best friend Matt shot a beauty tonight though! Several of you that fish with me know Matt so l thought Id share a pic. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Andy, I still have the desire to put the work in for a big deer or a big walleye, but find what really matters most to me is getting out with my family and good friends and getting them on deer or fish. My son just shot a little spike and before we went out that night he asked if he could shoot whatever he wanted. I asked why and he said he mostly wanted some fresh meat and was sick of buying it. I told him he can lay down anything he wanted. I found out he is a meathunter like i was raising kids...now i prefer a bit more challenge, but it will always be about the meat. I too feel the end of the growing season every year and i hate winter more and more. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. When I started bowhunting in the late 80's it worked very well for me, but I havent had much luck with it since. I always figured that between a bad buck to doe ratio and over use rattling has become less effective. We used to cover lots of ground and make many sets a day and invariably ran into some bucks. We never ran into other bowhunters and there wasnt any posted land. Nowadays i only use rattling sparingly as i too have no confidence in it. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Les, I couldnt agree more!!!! I have met so many great guys and learned so much from this forum. Thats why it pains me to read negative, nonconstructive posts. Differing opinions, debate, and discussion are constructive and educational unlike much of the name calling and bs that plagues us this time of year! In addition to recovering a deer that probably shouldnt have been found I met a great, like minded individual and believe all of us had a fine time afield, dog included. John you are welcome at my fire ANYTIME. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Greg, I love the bombers too all spring casting, but ive never caught a single fish of any kind trolling them! I will say i dont troll em in spring tho as Id rather cast then, but i ran them alot this summer side by side with reefs with all fish on the reef runners. 22. My son gut shot a little buck friday night. The deer took a step as he shot, but the rage extreme, john, his dog, and i bailed him out. Deer made it 800-900 yds and never bedded once including when it dropped dead. I just wanted to thank John as Im certain I would never have recovered the deer without your help. The last couple hundred yds would have been VERY tough all by myself. Dried dark blood was tough and the super dry leaves were blowing around too! 23. I still have to get the pic of cody with the deer posted... Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
