Run weed guards and keep trolling...You can troll in floating weeds if you put a snap weight clip on so that it sits just under surface catching all the weeds while your lure runs free. You can put something near the lure(ie a bead) but your lure will run shallower as it weeds up unlike my method. If you run boards you can only go till they wont pull. I use 10' 6" dipsey rods with the tips in the water and put my chute rod tip in the water. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app

The secret to casting anything is getting it to fly like a bullet INTO the wind. Im using 18s mostly so getting them to fly with flipping not only makes a longer effortless cast it keeps the hooks from fouling. Also you cant cast big lures well with a medium or medium light. I am using a denali noirwood medium heavy now for 18S and 2 different mediums in the spring for 14s and long a's. All fast actions for a quick hookset. Spend time in the surf and you will learn to cast for distance. The flat raps run shallower too and are effective. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Tony has lights that can go on top of your masts like a cap. The cap has a knob (set screw) that allows you to swivel them. You can convert what you have to a launcher too by buying longer masts and using your masts as the angle braces. You would need top and bottom brackets for the braces and corner brackets for the cross bar and of course the cross bar. Everything he has is modular so you can add on. He also has the same lights that go on the launcher. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app

You can buy the same thing from glp. With 2 lights in back I can see my boards or inlines and see to run lines. Did you go with led's chas? I planned on making mine but tony's setup was so nice i just coughed it up. You will love having lights trolling at night. I keep the front dark as i troll and turn the lights forward if i want docking lights. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Deer Season on the Spur 2014
justtracytrolling replied to justtracytrolling's topic in Big / Small Game
Im up at the lake for the weekend hunting eyes...havent quite gotten into em enough this fall to quit. Not that I havent had a good year...just not the way i want to end it. Hoping this wind change does the trick. We did get 8 different bucks on camera this week, but still no shooters. I have 2 camera locations that usually get better bucks, but we havent had the right wind when I had the time in the middle of the day to even put the cameras out. Certainly didnt battle any crowds last night! It was howling 20-30+!! Kevin, Paul, n I all braved it...Kevin stole the show netting 2 eyes casting into a blinding wind/rain for 4 HOURS! I stayed more tucked in and settled for a bass. I fished 12-4 and headed for a warm rv! Just watching it rain today...hurry up n get dark! Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Deer Season on the Spur 2014
justtracytrolling replied to justtracytrolling's topic in Big / Small Game
I started chasing coyotes with hounds in 1991 and if ive learned anything its that the coyote is capable of anything. There is no more adaptable animal out there. In my experience i dont leave deer overnight in my area. No doubt if you only want to find a rack leave em till morning. Go out at night you take the chance of jumping the deer. I say take and make better shots and give em an hour and go... Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Inspired by Legacy's thread im starting my journal today. Tracy and I are sitting together tonight right by camp watching a thick strip that leads out to 3 fields. First field is 2 yr old clover, second is new seeding clover that the oats were combined 3 weeks ago and its coming NICE, Third is standing corn, and each is between 5-10 acres. Definitely should have brought the pole saw...its thicker than ever. Its just our 2nd time up this year. 2 Weeks ago we had a work party to move a couple shadow blinds, weedeat, and put out cameras. Crops look great, but we have no sightings of the buck ive been after for 2 years. Last sighting was in january coyote hunting with the dogs. We saw 3 shooters that day all bedded roughly together. Just 1.5 - 2.5 year olds is all we have for sure. Funny how you dont realize you have a cough till you are on stand! Cough drops tomorrow. Ill begin putting up pics from the camera tonight...its way too warm, but beautiful! Here's a shot of my better half and view from the stand...phone camera sucks... I knew he wasnt starving out there!!! He has a great life...fishing all summer with uncle Ed...though I bet he wishes you fished smaller water!

I felt EXACTLY the same way till I couldnt catch a walleye...only bass. I have tried numerous gulp, flukes, paddle tails, etc and never caught 1 eye in shallow...8 fow or less on Otisco. Ive caught em deeper on those baits, but I cant seem to fish them high enough in the column AND slow enough to get eyes in tight. The last resort might be a hollow belly paddletail weightless. My son was so frustrated one night this spring with the weeds he only fished plastics 1 whole night. He caught a boat full of bass, but no eyes...I limited! Walleyes usually will trigger on a floater rising on the pause or a suspender on the pause or a slow roll just under the surface...those presentations are tough to duplicate with long casts in shallow water with plastics. In the southern tier rivers you can bounce those same plastics on the bottom in any depth and they work if you locate fish. Floaters work poorly in the river compared to suspenders or jigs. Different fisheries = very different fishing. The alewives fluttering on the surface all spring into the summer have the walleyes trained to feed that way whenever possible in shallow water is my opinion for whatever thats worth.

Nice report Kinger! Great detail, but I noticed you failed to mention the treats Erabbit gave you?

Pan, I scout during the day and test fish my spots so I have some options at night. I make a bunch of waypoints that give me an area to cast into that is more fishable. The best example of this is plotting the inside and outside weedlines on your gps then make paralell casts. If you anchor crosswise sometimes you can fish one side of the weeds on 1 end of the boat and the other side from the other end. You'd be surprised how nasty the weeds are in spots where im fishing with 3 trebles. I find bomber long a's run very shallow and when I feel a weed I nod the rod and float up over. This is tougher with f18s but I do it...I think the key is a very bouyant stick, thin braid, and a sensitive fast action rod. If the weeds are more of a floating nature fish heavy blows that crash the shore you are fishing, and if you cast into the wind your stickbait will go right over weeds that are submerged as they will be bent over with wave action toward you.

Old man, I think the tiger fishing is probably ok at least, but if you wait a week or so the lake wont be in such a transition. Between the weather and lake levels its definitely affected the fishing. I dont like transitional periods! I did see 2 big tigers working in my scouting missions this weekend, one in front of the other marina where you have done well in the past, and 1 in front of the old footprints restaurant. Gill-T The rock pile idea is a good one! I learned in my time on the susquhanna where I live that low water scouting for structure is extremely valuable and I did some major scouting on otisco this last week though it really would work better if levels were more than 30 inches down. Water clarity is excellent so I did find a few spots. Keuka, It hasnt been spot burning Ive been fighting. I dont mind sharing...I have many many spots and most are only productive at certain times and conditions so Im always moving. Even if people know where I am fishing it doesnt affect me because its a very tough lake to fish and most other guys are gonna struggle anyway. Ive been having trouble with guys trolling at night or boating that really dont have a clue. There is plenty of room for several boats to work the same 3 mile section if people respect each other and think would I want someone doing that to me. The 3 collisions/ tangles have occurred when I had no where to go and got pinched, one drove right behind me, and the other turned right at me at speed and hit my otter in daylight. Keep in mind its a small lake and Im on it 3-5 days every weekend for 26 weeks minimum and if someone wants to fish where I am I cant do anything about it as its not like there is anywhere to hide. I just hope people give me enough room so we dont tangle up whether casting or trolling. Ive fished up close to others that were where I wanted to fish, but NEVER have I hooked another line casting or trolling. Ive even hollered over to another boat after a quick solo limit and told them to come anchor right where I am before I pulled anchor so they would be in just the right spot. I pulled up plenty close to them to fish this exact spot and they were 50 yards away and couldnt catch. So I thought being I crowded them, though they werent in the right place, Id help em out....they didnt take my advice and were fishless when they hit the launch...i limited in half dozen casts...I may have upset them but I was doing my best to share without NOT fishing my most productive spot at the time. I want others to catch too and love to see guys out fishing Otisco...just TRY to share and respect each other. As for shore spots....no way Ill open post shore spots unless the state promotes them...ie the causeway...not that otisco has any secret PUBLIC access spots.

Those force motors arent the best for sure!! Rnsurfnturf has one on his toon and he isnt thrilled with it. He worked as a boat mechanic so he has been able to keep it up without breaking the bank. You need a nice four stroke that is dependable! I love mine and other than a fuel issue its been bullet proof. Im out in the middle of the night solo all the time and you have to be confident with your equipment. Now is the time to buy if you can! Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Thanks guys! I believe in sharing, promoting the outdoors, and that wont change! A bad experience or two is part of the deal. I just have to keep at it...but a little less info for lurkers is the way im heading! The network of guys that post and pm still will benefit, but i know who they are on the water.
