  1. I havent been posting many reports because after having several incidents in the lake I didnt need anymore issues. I thought Id better put up an update though as its been very quiet for a while. After limiting every night saturday through tuesday the bite shut right off! First water temps jumped back up 5 degrees to 70 plus in the shallows and im sure they dont have the urge to put the feedbag on. Second they are draining the lake to work on the dam. Levels are at their lowest in 2 years. Anyone coming here needs to really be careful. We had to destroyed lower ends yesterday from people who dont know what they are doing. Lake is down 3 feet and there are danger bouys on dry ground along with boats on lifts with no water under em! There hasnt been a ripple, let alone a chop, since monday and walleye fishing is beyond slow. I need some north or west or northwest wind bad! Plus its way to warm for fall! Time get home and double check all our bows! Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Most importantly you made it out and got the boys fishing! Im a fixer/tinkerer and id try to fix it first...that being said if a more reliable boat is feasable financially id pull the trigger on a newer rig set up for what you want. Having to worry on the water sucks bigtime!!!! Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Casting wasnt the answer again last night...i busted the trolling gear back out and im gonna go back to deeper water for the flat conditions as of late. This season sure has been tough to pattern! Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Been tough here kevin....limits most nights, but lots of patience waiting for the eyes to come in shallow...bout ready to try a trolling/casting combo night. Casting is awesome but trolling is easier on a slower night. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Nice job! I agree with you on the weeds! Ive hauled out so much in 1 spot I hope Im getting a trough opened up. We had a good blow 2 nights ago and that helped but its still tough.
  6. Its picked up and they are feeding over here! Enough so that we are casting f18s not trolling. Weeds are tough, but its not holding us back.
  7. Rnsurfnturf and I got out last night and water was chocolate milk and we didnt get any action from 930 to 1230. The wind started really blowing about 12 and by 1230 the water was crystal clear and I got it started with a nice 6 and half pounder. Tim casts 2 more times and he's on...FAT 8 pounder. Then we grind out 3 more 6.5 pounders (tim 2 and 1 for me) over the next 2 hours. Fish still didnt really commit. We each had a miss and a drop also. Finally wind get too ridiculus and we bagged it 1 fish shy with a 34 pound 5 fish total. Tim can add his pics and i have more on my camera...here's my 2. Fishing is still slow, but its nice to really have to fish for em. Had a great time Tim... Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Bigger fish have always come in last even when we crush em early...just like bucks coming out to feed...the dominant ones come out last. I like to set up very shallow and that usually means a longer wait for the eyes to come in...causeway is the latest bite on the lake imo. Great wall area ive got em at dusk...lots of options... 9. It was one of those nights they wouldnt hit it on the pause/floating. Had to be subsurface just over the weeds. Just picking at it...hence the misses and drops. Hoping they thump it tonight. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Yep it was! Especially considering the author Ed! Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Got out with Matt and rnsurfnnturf's dad, Paul last night just before 10. I threw a f18 vampire exclusively, Paul threw J13 in pike, and matt primarily threw a f18 in pike, at least till I started sticking eyes. I started us off with a nice bass. Paul landed the first eye bout 4 pounds. I came back with a bass and Matt got a 36 inch tiger. Then it got SLOW...Paul called it a night bout 100 and matt n I plugged away catching 1 more bass till 3am and then somebody flipped the switch!!!! We limited... missing 3 dropping 2 and even with the netting, untangling hooks, etc we were done in under 90 minutes...11 walleye bites ! Fish were from 4-8 pounds. Total bag 34.10. Better pics to follow... Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Yes plenty are caught from shore near the cut in the causeway. Ive seen smaller ones caught off the dock. We did a 36ish fish last night on a f18 in the main lake. Clarity is crystal...id recommend the south end. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Pap, Tracy and I have you and your family in our thoughts today! If you get the chance and need a little time on the water my boat is always ready and you are welcome. Walleyes have been known to be therapeutic! Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. My comment about selling my catch was in jest. I certanly realize our finger lakes would be devasted if this were the case. Furthermore the fish are a public resource. Besides how much could i make selling 3 fish a day even if i could catch them everyday. I cant speak for jason but i was just joking. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Had a GREAT time with kinger, ed, and hoot today despite the fact the fish werent interested in our offerings! Cant say enough about ed's rig and gear....real pleasure to have the opportunity. I got back to camp, cleaned out the envoy, took care of my wet duds (did my good deed and waded in to help an older gentleman with his boat), and went out casting solo by 930. Kept it REAL simple...1 rod, 1 f18 vampire, and a net...no electronics and no phone. Not much surface walleye action and weeds were awful...missed 1, and boxed a nice 6 pounder. All in all not bad considering...wind got bad and was on the dock by 1130. Tomorrow night is another night! Thanks so much again ed...look forward to getting together for some eyes. 16. No I catch lots on floating stickbaits worked as top water wake baits or just under surface, but I had a musky fly guy make me some musky sized alewife flies that Ill be testing soon with him. I have caught them on clousers before, but just little eyes.
  17. Nice! I have hopes of getting some on big alewife top water flies very soon!
  18. When you can go anytime it doesnt make much sense to be cold or get wet!
  19. Pap, Sorry to hear about your brother, you and your family have my deepest sympathy. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Ok I think I get it...the lions share of the stress is between the fly and spinny/flasher so you have the 50lb big game mono to take the shock...the 30 lb is to protect your wire and dipsey?
  21. Also a quality smooth drag is a must for lighter tackle and many trolling reels arent smooth enough...
  22. Probably rubber bands off a blacks release would work fine.
  23. I have no doubt any meat can be made into snack sticks, but Im too cheap. I will say it would be worth the money for the day Kevin had!!!!! If im gonna pay ill buy pork! I make all my own sausage etc. and I got sick of trying recipes that I didnt like (my family liked less) and felt I had to eat after all the work. I get more than ample venison and its very easy to come up with tasty recipes. Tile Man Dan When I was 14 I went out and got a couple nice geese and took the time to pluck them the way my grandma did turkeys. I roasted them with bacon strips over them and they looked beautiful. We had a big family meal and it was the ONLY time Ive ever seen my grandma throw away food. We ate the bacon and the sides...nobody took a second bite.
  24. You are probably right Ed...we dont want a biased experiment! In fact we probably need a few cold ones to go with it too! Of course then we'll have to sit around and discuss the difference with a few more cold ones.
