  1. You cant tighten the drag beyond what you can balance in a canoe. Ive never caught salmon, but a pike or bass could flip you if you let it. Close to shore in fall it would be fun on the right day. Offshore in a canoe....no way! Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Ive used matzou lures in the river and they are ok at best. Ive never gotten any matzou to troll well. They are inexpensive, but if you dont catch well enough on them be confident they wont get used....waste of money imo! There are so many well known walleye sticks and deep divers that produce that ive given up trying to come up with "inexpensive alternatives". Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. The weather here is much the same...but we dont catch kayaks near that size...in fact ive never gotten a keeper! Lol. If you dont mind me asking what did that yak hit on? I have guests coming friday thru sunday for some serious fishing and we will definitely target tigers some so maybe ill get some good pics to share. Tiger action has been a bit off lately. Last year end of july and early august were excellent. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I think ive seen an aluminum adapter just for that....if you cant find one make it out of aluminum...there must be a shop near you that can do it...ill call a machinist i know and get a price Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. There are many waters with plenty of quality eyes that you wont easily learn in 4 trips....thats not even an effort at otisco. Unless you are a local and plan on fishing a TON to get past a steep learning curve stick with easy places to catch eyes...WPR, oneida, susquehanna etc Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Got out after the storm this morning with meathunter737 and good friend wayne hoping for some walleye action. We certainly didnt have good fishing, but managed 2 eyes, 1 brown, and 2 smb along with 2 short hits and 1 dropped eye. I have a new personal best 7 inch eye...the smallest ive ever trolled up. Little guy hit one of miss em's stingers rigged 3 way off a tdd11 down 32 over 60plus...miracle i saw the hit. Revived him in my livewell and released him in the weeds where he belongs. Meathunter will add pics...definitely slow morning, but encouraging after the last 2 mornings i didnt land a single eye fishing solo. 9 rods sure helps! Fish were deep today...30 to 35 down. 7. Watch going down stream from the hickories....too shallow most of the time. Campville area has been good this year. Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Spot on Kevin....trolling is a team effort and we also pass the rod to the least experienced angler. Do we drop the occaisional fish handing off to young kids...of course...but thats not a problem for me. Last year the only eye well over 10 got dropped seconds from the net...if i dropped it woulda been an ISSUE, but it was a 12 year old and i was thrilled he loved the fight and I bet when he comes next weekend i wont have to tell him to keep his rod tip up! I catch my fair share solo.... Sent from my LG-L38C using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. I enjoy the reports and photos from all over the state. For many the stories and pictures are as close we get to fishing water other than our home lakes. Conservation is obviously important, but how we each choose to enjoy our fishing is a personal choice. There is no wrong way to fish if the laws are followed. Keep the reports coming! 10. The TD is what I have...didnt realize the triducers were different.
  11. Ivan I couldnt agree more. Fishing in the ocaisional tourney is fun and you meet a lot of great guys, but the added pressure changes everything. A fish like that caught and released is special enough on it its own. I love the very early morning and evening on the water most and many events you miss both. Plus, looking at the time while fishing is no fun. I wouldnt want to give up my otters either.
  12. Me either!!!!!!!! I just know it can be done. I snagged my probe rigger last night briefly and almost had a heart attack. Never worried before I had the probe. I have lots of cable and downrigger weights, but the probe is a bit more pricey!
  13. We had 12 boats and 30 people or so. Several late mechanical problems (both truck and boat) kept 5 boats out, and several others for various reasons. Still had a great time and next year will be a better turnout I bet and the fishing is bound to be better....couldnt have been much worse! Surface temps are back on the rise and the fishing will be back on soon.
  14. I cant due tomorrow but wednesday or thurs prob would work weather permitting. Ill pm you tomorrow.
  15. Congrats to you and you father on a great fish! Any personal best is rewarding, but a 50 after 16 years of effort on Chautauqua is fantastic. It must have been a surreal experience to share with your dad !
  16. Jay, You and anyone wishing to return for next years event will have a spot for sure. We look forward to having you and your family in our front yard anytime! Its amazing how many boaters dont tie up at further down the dock....its plenty long! Ryfuns provide someone to "direct" launch traffic when its busy, but it was slow this weekend. We have a fun bunch here and we definitely enjoy. watching the launch! Kevin, You have a wealth of locations up there and team JTT would love a rematch with the St Lawrence....it kicked my butt 2 years ago! My dad has a place i built him off the number 4 road in Adk and I love the country up there. As far as fish cooperating goes thats the fun of walleye fishing. Its all about the challenge....i wouldnt want it any other way!
  17. At least you got out and bent a rod Kevin. Its so hard to be consistant on eyes....this year in particular. I had some truly great fishing for weeks, but Otisco is fishing tough for me right now. I have salmon on my brain too....not sure when or how but im gonna get out after them soon myself!
  18. Hit the wrong button. ..Ed, in the past they were stocked at 12 plus inches and the size limit was dropped to 12 inches in hopes of utilizing the stocked fish as they dont always live long here due to oxygen depletion in. the cold water. I caught a 4 and 6 incher this weekend....never caught even 1 under 12 in three seasons. Ive no idea how many browns we have caught, but its way over 100 last year alone. Most all released and NOT handled.
  19. You are all very welcome! Next year we will make it bigger and better for sure. ld love to get a series of events if anyone else would like to host one. No reason trout guys should have all the fun. We will also be having a family derby here next year for the weekend of the bass opener. Ryfuns, owners of the campground, have asked me to run it. Plans include entertainment under the pavillion, cash prizes for lmb, smb, walleye, tigers, and browns. The lake used to have a similar event. Just something to keep in mind. There has also been talk of a labor day event too. Will keep everyone posted.
  20. The probe is definitely not too far back from blowback. You can run it off copper or core and it will read.
  21. Thanks for the read....very enjoyable and good report.
  22. Nice! We did a beautiful upper 30's tiger just south of laders point in the walleye event. Fish hit a red stinger rigged 3 way off a red tigerTDD11 in the propwash while matt was creeping out the line to. put on my otters. Crushed that little spoon nearly ripping the rod out of matts hands. Fish was released in the water without netting. Labrus had a beauty after the tourney but it broke off after wrapping up in their trolling motor. Steady action, good clarity, and low water temps (74) are making for good catch n release conditions this summer. 42inches is the best CONFIRMED landed fish so far.
  23. Thanks Les! Like you I truly enjoy the LOU community and do what I can to promote the outdoors. Its our responsibility to pass on the outdoors to the next generation. You have a standing invite! Im thinking KINGS if you wanna plan a day on the big pond...hint hint!
  24. DEC spent a lot of time with a few of us explaining stocking protocols. We asked a ton of questions and left feeling good. Im not gonna try to paraphrase a 2 hour talk but i will announce the full lake study is still on in august. I volunteered to help and look forward to seeing some data. Recently i caught a few extremely small browns and should hear from the DEC soon as to what size the smallest stockies are...be great to find reproduction.
