  1. Forgot to do my fishing report. Matt and I ran 2 riggers with the same spoons as jeff won with fishing the same temps...nothing but a few browns. We ran a variety of deep divers in perch and alewive patterns that yielded a smb and a really spirited upper 30's tiger on a red stinger ran 3 way with a red tiger TDD 11. The tiger hit it in the prop wash when Matt was laying the line very slowly to avoid a tangle on the 3way. Just about jerked the rod out of his hand....speed was about 3 at the probe. Water temp dropped into the low seventies from a high of 82 10days ago. Clarity is improved not that is a good thing for eyes. Last night Hermit, Matt n I finished with 12 bass with 3 between 19 n 20 inches. Weeds are tough trolling, but doable with clip weights used. as weed guards. Id forget walleye trolling till the reports improve.
  2. Jeff won with a 5 pounder $154 and Pete Rajner came second with a 3 pounder for $64. It was a 3 way in the walleye scallop eating contest between Hermit, Jeff's daughter and Matt who was cooking them. I think i woulda given Matt the win, but he had unfair access!!!! I want to add that I appreciate the courtesy everyone gave eachother on the lake. Only trouble I had was a local that has no respect for anyone else that I really need to have a chat with, but wont....Congrats Miss em and Pete.
  3. Great job jeff! Thanks for sharing. Tracy and I enjoyed everyone and couldnt have had a better time. I really wish the lake temps didnt plummet. I went out last night and the action was incredible...unfortunately the walleyes really wouldnt hit top water without bomber blue prisms and im down to 1 water stained super glued ruined bomber. The weeds are even worse, but there was plenty of active fish. The lake wont troll well till its back over 80 on the surface....Nofishco lived up to its reputation. I will host the event again next year. BTW Jeff your wifes brownies have been are fattening me up nicely...i prob didnt have to eat half the pan for breakfast...but i did! The bbq'd bacon wrapped cheek meat was a definite hit. Next year we divide leftovers! It doesnt help the neighbors did a pig roast yesterday too.
  4. Im cracking a cold one right now! Tough morning...temps have evened out, but surface temps were down 7 degrees from 2 weeks ago when the trolling bite was better. Its anybodys derby to win...just gotta get 1!
  5. Ive always wanted to try it....how do you figure depth with it?
  6. They are not LED unfortunately. They are mounted to caps that go over the tree/mast and tighten with knobs like the rod holders.
  7. While there are always walleye in the weeds especially inside edges with deep water nearby plenty of walleye suspend in the middle. I get most of my biggest trolled walleye well off shore on Otisco. Again thats not to say fishing weeds isnt productive, just that if the weeds are a PIA move out to the middle. You wont mark as many fish probably, but it doesnt mean you wont catch.
  8. Tony at GLP has mast lights that can be rotated around as docking lights or pointed down the tow line. I bought them but I havent put them on yet.
  9. I have several setups with the seaguar smackdown braid, and it doesnt break. I tested it on a big tiger trolling and I really leaned on the fish far harder than normal and no problem. The stuff casts incredibly and is UNREAL smooth and I love it, BUT...it will tangle wicked if you arent careful. The stuff is the best fishing line there is, if you dont tangle it up and we fish in the dark. Im going to keep it on the trolling set ups and my own spinning rod, but NOT on guest rods. Im going to try some heavier smackdown soon. Powerpro fishes easier and it probably better for most people...cheaper too! Double albright knot works fine on casting setups and I use a barrel swivel tied on with a palomar for trolling. Braid doesnt break period...its always the leader, hooks straighten, splitrings fail, or the rod breaks. Of course you have to watch it for wear, but Ive done that since I was a kid with mono.
  10. Thanks guys! Consistancy is the name of the game and I expect the occaisional off trip, but man it was windy, and cloudy...ideal walleye weather. Plus the short hits makes me think we should have been able catch. We certainly tried a variety of speeds from 1.5 to 3.5. The good the thing is if I cant catch it fuels me to fish harder and if im catching it fuels me to go as often as possible...so either way Ill be back at it friday hard. Just when you think you are getting it figured out walleye fishing often will show you just how little you know...thats why they dont call it bass fishing! Les, Today was definitely a day technology got in the way of fishing...but ill learn to make that fishhawk put more in livewell than it takes out! Might turn it off now and then too......
  11. Got out this morning early with Dennis (dj717) and I really failed to get anything going. This whole weekend kicked my butt. Temps are still all over...had up to a 14 degree temp range down 30. ..58 to 72. No doubt a probe helps overall, but im chasing my tail with it lately. We ended up with 1 little eye 17.75 and several browns. We had 6 empty releases and 2 drops. I couldnt get the eyes to commit. I had a good time overall, but wished I coulda given Dennis a better trip. Thanks for the smoked lake trout and fresh zuccini Dennis we will get some filets next time!
  12. Finally a informative post!! Id like to thank those who post quality material that is useful and helpful to other sportsman. Captain Vince your posts are excellent and a pleasure to read. Most of us know who the REAL pros are and who the troublemakers are! Justin
  13. $20 for a slip, and its well worth it to just tie up and not deal with the launch in the middle of the day. Ive fished mornings and evenings primarily and had to have a place to tie up between back before I had a slip. If you are gonna get 1 call and reserve it as they can fill up.
  14. Lets use 68. Just met bait-taker at the launch with his dad and had fun shooting the breeze with them. They are paid and ready.
  15. Ive seen it happen on our pond, but never have seen a pic after the fact. Must have been a surprise for you...amazing he hit your offering with that full belly. Ive seen a walleye with 3 10 inch tigers in its belly break me off and my son catch it on a f18 with my f18 still in its mouth so I shouldnt be surprised! I gotta ask how big was the bass?
  16. I only fished there once...worked my tail off all day 16 hours and caught 1 rock bass...I was adequately humbled.....fish was same size as the lure! There is something about Chautauqua that ive loved since i was a kid at day camp...the ferry was cool too!
  17. Way to go Kevin! Need more of us taking kids fishing. Got after the crappie again today....fatheads way out did artificials! Cant get over how many there are under my dock and the boats. Turns out between nightly feedings, shade from pontoons and the vertical poles that support the docks its a crappie utopia!
  18. I got an early start with captain eyes and lines in at 5. We battled strong gusts and erratic temps for 3 hours with 3 releases, 1 eye 1 brown and 1 nobody home. Went back out immediatly with rnsurfnturf and his 4 yr old ryan. We ran 9 lines for 3 more hours of bad gusts for 3 more releases with the same outcome. It was ryans first big boy trip and he got his ffirst walleye and first brown. Though it was NOT good fishing we couldnt have been happier. Ryan was great on the boat and Tim youve done a fine job! Ryan ate the brown and the scallops plus bbq chicken. We finished the day catching over 20 crappie in the rain from my dock all released. Tim has the pics so we will have to wait till he posts. I think we have a future walleye guy....Riggers were key today as that was the only lines i could keep in the good water with the crazy temps. Temps flucuated as much as 10 degrees at a given depth...its only gonna get better.
  19. Ill add you to the list. Everyone can pay when they get here and if you dont make it by 430 am saturday pay at the weigh in. Still room for a boat or 2...it will be a busy with so many of us, but that will just make it a better challenge. Bring a marine radio everyone if possible. Everyone will need to show some courtesy out there and with a radio we can avoid being pinched and dragging gear. The boat taking the inside when passing needs to give the outside boat PLENTY of room. When in doubt YIELD!!! Communication and cooler heads prevail. This is a family fun event not the master walleye circuit.
  20. Ill be up thursday night. Anyone camping stop and say hi when you get in...my rv is by the launch and my deck railing has a sign with justtracytrolling on it.
  21. That picture is what fishing AND this forum are about! Way to go getting the next generation involved. Nice fish too!
  22. Id love to see a 40" minimum on tigers across the state, and old man is spot on with the pike. We have PLENTY of pike in NY, but we are in dire need of quality pike. Size restrictions and slot limits where necessary are needed so fish can reach maturity. I have no problem with harvesting as that is a personal choice, but letting fish reach maturity really would help. If handled properly taking a fish out of the water for a pic is fine. Id rather not measure them at least when the water warms up, but again it has to be a personal choice. Most of the tigers we get are a by product of walleye fishing so Im not gonna be removing any hooks or barbs, but if I was targetting muskies exclusively Id go that way.
  23. Best time to fish is when you get the chance!
