GO EASY / REEL HAPPY / SEA-IV -- 2016
FleetTracker replied to FleetTracker's topic in Fishing Pictures
Equipped the boats with a handful of GoPro Hero 4's for this season to better capture the memories and good times on the water. Here's my first crack at a video edit from Saturday's 1/2 day trip with some new Software (Power Director 14). I have A LOT of time to spend getting to learn this program and probably will never master it. Don't be too harsh on the video... it's my first one and I only spent 1 1/2 hours tonight both learning the Software and putting this together. I'll get better. It's uploaded in HD so up the quality on the YouTube video settings if you'd like! Enjoy - more to come this season! Can't wait for the Walleye opener next weekend! Good luck to all! Stony is dead. Stay in Henderson and hit the South shore - be your best bet right now until things improve elsewhere.

Hey Rich - Yea the N and NE winds are brutal up there. We had temps of 43-46.5 in the lake side around Stony but couldn't find any fish wanting to play in 5-25 fow. Have fished Henderson and mouth of BRB seeing temps of 46-51 but still a lack of fish (compared to the last 3 years). I've caught a few browns in Henderson this year but have tried since and came up empty. Fishing all around the last 2 weeks hasn't been great in our area. Can only get better. -

Been rough fishing on the north east end lately. Water is stupid clear everywhere and no bait found yet. Never seen such blank screens and poor fishing. Plucked a laker today and that was it. The photo of the water is 25' deep in the Lake right in front of Stony Creek. Like an aquarium everywhere you go out there. -

Tough day at Mexico
FleetTracker replied to Kevin J Legg's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Hey Kevin - makes the great days even greater! Did you guys check lines often? Early in the season like this there's lots of debris in the water. Trolling one plastic bag on the business end can ruin the whole spread. When days like that happen I continue to reset lines and more often then not the poor fishing is due to dragging junk. Just curious if you noticed the same. -

Quick evening Maiden Voyage on the Reel Happy with 2 buddies today. Felt great to be back on the water. Trolled Henderson and got both dudes a nice Brown to start the season. Both came on a 3 color core, 1 on a crush gator spoon, the other on one of my other buddy's spoons (Dtmasportsman) in silver and green. Also hooked into a monster Pike but we were deadlocked in battle and literally could not gain on him while trolling with big boards out and 9 lines in the water. We couldn't come to a stop so had to keep going at the slowest speed we could. Eventually came unglued so let the fish stories begin. Great start to the season! -

Get a kicker. A blank canvas boat is the best you can ask for. Rig it exactly how you want. Who wants old fishing gear and settling for how someone else rigged the boat?

I've only picked up 5 or 6 walleye on riggers over the last 2 years on Lake O so I don't even run them anymore when targeting walleye. We likely fish some of the same areas. Leadcore and spoons has been very productive. I'd say just about as good as sticks.

The ones I've used are made for rods, but no reason why you couldn't make your own if you had the time and patience (good winter project). You'd just need to be conscious of keeping the OD reasonable so that it doesn't affect the fishing line between your reel and the first guide in the rod. Here's a link to the ones I've been using. They hold up well... going into my 3rd season now. http://www.fishingonline.com/shoreline-marine-fishing-rod-floats/?gclid=CjwKEAjwlq24BRDMjdK7g8mD6BASJABBl8n3W6u9emjuloJ4pFziH3swXkWU4sOYGtcBxf-99spGsxoCO4zw_wcB -

I refer to them as "buddy savers", rather than floats. That way, when your buddy fumbles a rod overboard by accident, it can still be recovered, and he can remain your buddy. I have a lot of money into my set-ups and the small cost of adding floats makes logical sense to me. If they save just 1 combo from sinking to the depths, it'll be worth it. In the 2 prior seasons we have ran with these on, we have lost 1 rod overboard. It was recovered thanks to the float. The investment has already paid for itself. I highly recommend it. They are also color coordinated for usage type which helps quickly sort through rods etc... Yellow: planer/rigger rod - walleye Orange: planer/rigger rod - trout Red: rigger rods - salmon Gray: lead core, copper, dipsey (weight rods)
