  1. PM responded to, MooseKnuckle.
  2. Can't beat a Great Lakes Planers mast (he'll customize whatever dimension you want), coupled with Amish Outfitters boards.
  3. Welcome!! As I'm sure you've already noticed, you will find tons of knowledge from folks willing to share tips, tactics, and lessons learned. Enjoy the site and happy holidays!
  4. Agreed Gambler. If you only fish a few times a year then I could understand trying to multipurpose gear. If you miss 2 or 3 weekends from April-October like I do, you should and you'll learn to appreciate building a specie-specific arsenal.
  5. You haven't seen many because not many can justify a $60k+ Aluminum boat. LUND: Lotsa Unique Nifty Details... But you pay outta the @$$ for em!! Lund ruined that model by deciding to turn the top of the gunnels into rod storage lids. Any trout/salmon/walleye guy who trolls with big boards and riggers would see that layout as a huge negative. Tyee's are setup better for that type of fishing in my opinion. My only complaint would be lack of a big fish live well. The Pro-V does have that... Go figure.
  6. Don't do it!!!! I went that route once (the price is appealing isn't it). I got them for $45ea so was even better. You get what you pay for buddy... I gave away 10 of these combos last summer because I couldn't stand to look at them after losing multiple good fish due to drag/lockup malfunctions. Oh those depthmaster rods will also easily snap on you too! Might work fine for smaller bodies of water with a smaller class of fish. Not for Lake O!I use nothing but Daiwa Reels and they won't disappoint. Sealine 27's for Browns and they'll double as walleye setups.
  7. 3 and 4 color rigs are deadly... Consider doing these instead of a 1 or even 2 color. You can obtain 1 or 2 colors of depth with splitshots.
  8. A must have in my opinion. Takes some of the guess work out of the equation.
  9. Huhh... I guess I never really thought about that part. Don't think mine were unplugged all season on the smaller boat. I never had battery issues. I would think cannon has some smarts built in to sense that the cable is in the water before it emits the positive field... But maybe not?!? Anyway I wouldn't worry about it at all based on my experience.
  10. 4 stroke 9.9 is plenty for your boat. Whatever you choose, I'd recommend the high thrust lineup from Yamaha or Mercury.
  11. Use big boards. More fish boated, less lost that keep you up at night. Problem solved.
  12. No Navionics contour data for that lake either. I checked for ya but nothing. Google search says it was a US Army corps of engineers dam/flood project. I ice fish a similar reservoir (Whitney Point). Do best near or on the old riverbed channel before it was flooded.
  13. They started heavily distributing to many shops in NY figuring it would alleviate the small onsey twosey orders directly from them. Also wouldn't have to maintain significant inventory. It is a small family operation, but the best weights I've ever ran. If you need weights that bad in December, drive up to Fat Nancy's or other shops that are now distributing.
  14. Hands down Nils with a Tanaka power head is the best out there. No debate required.
  15. Same thing I experienced this Summer using 15lb Sharks... luckily it wasn't on my probe rigger... but yea I was just letting it down and stopped it and bam... no more weight - cable starts drifting back behind the boat. I know the cable terminators were done right and were in good shape as everything was brand new this season. I never had a problem the rest of the season though. I have 3 of these on one boat and 2 on another and this was the only time I experienced an issue out of those 5. My buddy still thinks it was a Bull Shark
  16. Someone buy this rig already!! What a wicked deal I can't believe someone hasn't jumped on this!!
  17. Another great day in the tribs...
  18. haha come on buddy - we're trying to help out the fellow walleye fisherman here... stop feeding false information! They both have their time and place. When you stopping by to help me get that ice shanty done?
  19. Pretty sure they're 4" they make them in shallow and deep. Both 4" baits though. They're noticeably shorter with smaller bodies. They're the hot metal walleye runners. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Hot-Metal-Walleye-Runner/1434382.uts Cabelas does have the real image walleye runners that are essentially the same size (direct copy) as the reefs but the action is pretty poor and the hooks need replaced out of the box. Did catch a few on those though. Makes me think it's the size that matters. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Fisherman-Series-Walleye-Runner/738604.uts
  20. I don't think it's a branding issue, but more so what works and if they're working for you keep at it. I thought the action looked appealing on them when they got wet but no takers. They are much smaller baits then Reefs so maybe that's the difference on Lake O.
  21. Yea I thought so... I bought a dozen or so in various patterns and tried them this year side by side with Reefs using a 9-rod spread. Didn't have a single hit on them this year. I'll sell them to you cheap. Reefs always come through on Ontario - should have never doubted them and wasted $ on other stuff.
  22. Did Reef Runner ever make a metal lipped bait? I've never seen one. I think it was Cabelas that came out with their own brand of look-alike Reefs with metal lips....
  23. Same here... after July went with UV Gator Crush (stingray & Mag)... went through a few of those spoons this year - wish the finish held up longer. It was Hot for multi-species.
