Based on my experience, 30# PP as backer on cores is absolutely terrible. I lost a pair of screaming kings a few weeks ago on 2 different cores due to the thin diameter power pro eating into itself on the spool and locking up. Fish gone. Spoon gone. Junk. 2 for 2 on that failure mode and I'm done with it. Off it came that night from all 6 of my cores and into the fire pit. Stuff burns well - finally found a good use for it. I hate the stuff. Maybe 50# power pro wouldn't be as bad. I'm stuck using the 50# behind my two coppers and can't get around that due to reel space - now I'm nervous about having that. I have 20lb Big Game behind all my cores now (2,3,4,5,6,10). All I can say is don't use 30# PP as backer. Maybe increase to the 50# to get the larger diameter. Or go to mono. I'm sure many will have comments about this post and many may have 30# PP as backer rigged right now... That's fine, but I feel obligated to share this. All I can say is once you have a day like I did, you'll be swapping out the stuff too. Losing screaming kings like that keeps you up at night... Especially when you know why it happened. I'll keep power pro on light action perch rods to get the sensitivity. Only good use for the stuff I've found.

I found the same thing over the last week. 2 of my 6 loosened up significantly. Sloppy. You can take them apart and tighten them. Take the two small Allen bolts out on the Bottom. Those screw holes provide access to 2 more Allen head bolts on the bottom. Take those out. Now the holder should be apart and you can access the large center Allen bolt and tighten it down. I added more loctite to that bolt. It's the culprit and why they loosen up. If cannon was smart they would have just flipped that bolt so that the bolt head could be accessed from the bottom and tightened. Or put a nut on the bottom so it could be tightened there. That way you wouldn't have to disassemble the whole damn thing when they loosen up. They are really awesome holders but going through this scenario is time consuming and not ideal.

Hey, but that new windshield looks good! Haha it was a bit slow this weekend but we still boated a few fish. The plus side was the weather was insanely nice... And we rocked out to ACDC out in the big lake for hours. It passed the time and pumped you up for the next rod that didn't fire. I still don't understand why you weren't picking up eyes out there. We ended with the two big girls and lost 3. Horrible catch ratio but it fit the bill given the type of weekend we had. See ya on the 4th buddy!

Browns have been slower then normal this year. Walleye has been on fire but you're a little late to the game. Seems like it's cooled off a bit over the last week or so. I'll be up this evening and fishing Friday - Sunday. I'll report back here if there's anything worth sharing. I won't be after walleye this weekend, though.
