They'll head strait for you, push you up against the cliff out of the zone, follow too closely, and cut across your dipseys and copper rigs. 'Monica' needs to learn some serious boat etiquette!!

Looks like a whitefish to me. Nice fish Orange Belly! Im out of henderson- seasonal camp at bedford creek. We went for Kings today and got skunked... Thinking about switching to walleye at some point this week but don't know where to start?!. PM me if you're willing to offer a few tips! My dad is out from Ohio for the week and would like to get him on some fish! Thanks!

Boy was this weekend disappointing - not a single fish boated... my first skunk this year (wife not impressed and extremely bored all weekend). I only get up on the weekends as it's a 2+ hour drive for us from home to our camp in sackets harbor. The weather was great this weekend, with low wind, especially on Sunday. Allowed little boats like mine to venture past the lighthouse quite a ways without concern. I guess the high W winds earlier in the week really messed things up out there. There were lots of boats... from inside fishing the wall on stoney to a few miles out in the trench. Marks were consistently on bottom 20ft from 120-160fow. I tried everything... multiple spoons, spinny/fly combos, flasher/fly combos, meat, and even cowbells for a little bit. I had 5 releases all weekend putting 7 hours in on saturday and 5 on sunday. two on a spinny/fly, one on the meat rig, and 2 on spoons. screamer on a purple NK mag spoon for about 10sec... then gone. Had another on for about a minute in 160fow, 145 down on the same purple spoon. It was small, and didn't fight much, bet couldn't ID the fish before it threw the hook. That was the excitement for the weekend - didn't last long. I know weekends like this make the sport what it is and you'll have that from time to time, but it sure was demoralizing to me, as I've always boated something on every trip this year. I guess some blame could be laid on the conditions of the lake... but I can't help but think I'm doing something wrong. I've heard quite a few reports of guys catching a few salmon this weekend... I'm glad someone is! I hope next weekend goes better... or else I may have to resort to other styles of fishing for perch or smallmouth or something to keep the wife entertained and coming each week. I have 7 guys and another boat coming up for labor day weekend too, and they're expecting to catch some fish. I sure hope the 'man trip' doesn't end up like this past weekend... might be making more beer runs than trips out on the lake. haha Where are the walleye? I haven't heard anyone talk about them in months around henderson... do they come back in the bay this time of year? Where are the good perch spots.. she'd love to catch fish after fish like that... we're just very new to the area and figuring things out each weekend. Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

Still got the elite 7? Does this unit have the HDI too or just the sonar and GPS? Do you have the white Lowrance cover for it? I'm interested. Thanks!

Hi Mike - I have a camp in Henderson with the same size boat. West Winds in excess of 10MPH from thursday - monday will make for some pretty rough water early in your trip out of Henderson with a 17.5' boat. If you can't make it past Galloo island due to waves, stick inside between the Island and Stoney Point anywhere from 50-70 fow early in the am and 80-100fow by noon for Browns. Seasick waddler and natural born killer spoons will do the trick anywhere from 15-30' up from the bottom depth. skate out to 110-130fow with cowbells and a peanut right on the bottom for lakers. Not sure what to tell you about walleye/pike/musky... sorry I hope you have a good trip and are able to put your friends on some fish!

Hi markdnaiel: I believe when people refer to "the mountain", I take it as Stoney Point. But hey i'm still new and figuring things out so I could be wrong...

I wanted to go out there where you were so bad on Saturday... but by 10am those rollers made me a bit uncomfortable in my boat. On days like that, can I find lakers in the 100-120fow trench between Stoney and the island? I tried cowbells on 2 passes on the bottom and zilch... nothin.

Thanks guys! I don't have a down temp probe... I look for arcs and baitfish zig zagging across the trench profile and stick to the depth contour on my navionics card that yields the most action... figure I'm in the right temp zone putting the spoons right down in front of them where they're being marked. Best spoons have been a magnum Northern King 28, natural born killer. I don't see it listed on their website... but the only place i've found who sells it is Dick's sporting goods. Maybe it's a special dick's product? I don't know... it's very close to the chartruese one that NK has on their website... but a little different. Purple stinger ladderback spoons also seem to do alright.

Hit the trench at first light and setup with a FF and spoon program with 6-rod spread in hopes of boating some salmon. Didn't mark much bait or arcs and the rollers slowly turned into white cap rollers that were just a bit too uncomfortable to be in with my boat. Damn it! Headed back inside to Stoney and set up with all spoons in 90-100fow targeting browns. Quickly doubled up. Damn it... first fish boated was a ridiculously huge sheepshead. Second fish screamed for a little bit in the beginning and we weren't sure quite what it was... It saw the boat and made another good run. We're all thinking it must be a teenage salmon the way it was fighting and acting... Got the nose up in the water and in the net after a good 10min fight. Wholy cow the biggest brown we've boated yet!! 17.5lbs at scale back at camp and 33" long!! What a fish!! Caught 2 other average browns like this one. Overall went 4-5 missing one strike, and that includes the huge drum. Headed in at noon. All 3 browns caught on a Magnum NK28 NBK. That spoon continues to produce for us. Can't have too many in the tackle box. Headed back up on Wed-Fri... Got some friends in town from Ohio visiting so want to try to put them on these fish. We got a seasonal camp in Sackets Harbor at Bedford Creek now.... Loving it!

Called Henderson Marina and all of their cabins are already rented for next year's memorial day holiday (surprising!). Ended up booking a cabin with Bedford Creek Marina which is next to Westcott Beach State Park. Staying for 7 days 8 nights next year...

Second the cannon customer service... I've read on many accounts of them replacing whole set-ups due to their equipment failing... even when they're in the bottom of the lake.

Still feel for ya losing that rigger man... really sucks! I looked at your pics and you have the older style mag 10's. I have the new STX Mag 10's and they're a vast improvement over the previous model. They have that faster speed you want and a couple other nice features. I gotta get back up that way soon... I'm addicted. The haul out of BRB campground was a little long every day though. Might need to find somewhere closer in Henderson or something. I burned through 35+ gallons of fuel this weekend. I'm already thinking about the pre-spawn salmon river stack-up at the mouth before they start to run. You ever try that?

Hi PAP! We're staying in the one cabin on the hill at the same campground. That's my Blue Tracker at the launch, if you're here now. We were targeting the browns this weekend on riggers with spoons but did end up with one walleye that nailed a rigger spoon. Pretty unexpected... But ill take it. Ill definitely be back up this way... Had a great time fishing this water for the first time!
