  1. Last September I purchased a 1991 221V Islander. Has the 4.3L V6, was decked out with custom SS rod holders, two BigJohn planer board reels, a homemade transom platform to hold downriggers, rods and the kickers gas tank, a heavy duty kicker bracket, full canvas and mooring cover for $8k. here is is in the water this past weekend. I wouldnt hesitate to look at an older boat as long as you know what you are looking for.
  2. I am spooling my rigs up with 30lb biggame and have 18lb and 12lb flourocarbon leader..that is my plan. if running dodgers, should I tie straight to the 30lb big game and skip the leader altogether?
  3. I have a tackle box full of walleye lures. I predominatly troll rapalas both stick and jointed. HAve those covered. Do not have any JPLugs and really not many spoons. the spoons I have a are predominatly casting spoons.
  4. ALL DEPENDS ON what you want to do with it. Grady's are a heavy boat that is for sure. I had friend who had just the 20' WA with a 150 V8 OB on it and it was adequate. If that beast were mine I would throw twin 300 Etecs on it
  5. Hey, why doesnt the best friend go fishin? waitin there on the dock!
  6. WHAT DO YOU RUN FOR A SWIVEL FOR THOSE SPIN DR'S? SAME SETUP AS A DODGER?
  7. Thanks. I have herd greens, reds (coho) yellow (lakers) and whites.. thanks for the tip on the size. What about the dipseys? Size wise?
  8. With all of the choices out there what is a must to have in the box for Dodger or flasher size and color? I see the range from 4" to 11" and dozens of colors etc.
  9. Awesome report Mr. Clean! Nice job with the go-pro!
  10. Now you are talking my language! We pull monster northerns thru the ice here on the Great Sacandaga (former world records northern was from the GSL)..did you weigh her? I am thinking a 42" post spawn would be in the low 20lb range? Our largest northern thru the ice is 48" weighing 36lbs. Here is one we got back a few years ago.
  11. Has anyone tried the Berkley 100% Flourocarbon line yet? (Not the vanish stuff)
  12. the Plant meaning that large smokestack on the East Shore?
  13. I guess I do not understand the lb rating on swivels..Was in a store last night looking at eagle claw ball bearing swivels. they are numbered..1,2,3 etc..what does that mean? I did not see any lb rating on the package
  14. My new to me 1986 Merc 9.9 wasent running all that great. I fogged the hell out of it with SeaFoam. Purrs like a kitten now
  15. anyone have a pic of flea buildup on their line for me to see? I have never experienced them
  16. what lb swivels does everyone use? I have read 30lb?
  17. I like salmon from Hannaford.. I have never eaten salmon out of Lake O. I would assume it tastes the same as the pacific salmon for the most part? When I do get one someday, I will most likely prep it like I do with salmon from the store. Cedar plank, very low temp on outdoor grill. Then I will get a decent smoker and smoke it at some point
  18. I am getting a new prop for my 221 Islander. The current one has a few dings in it. I am considering a 4 blade prop. better hole shots, will keep on plane at lower RPM and will knock off 1MPH at trolling speeds.
  19. Which brings up the point of this proposed Boaters Safety Course that NYS is working on for EVERYONE no matter the age. I really hope that the course also incorporates some hands on training when it comes to trailering your boat and launching it etc. I love these guys who buy a brand new $50k boat that is more than they can handle as new boaters and try to navigate..
  20. KD, kudos to you for posting this. Some would pocket the loot and not say a word
  21. Sucks to say that all public launches should be manned. I know I know, more tax dollars to pay for a person to be there.
  22. That sucks. do you have spare plugs for the kicker? I always pack at least 2 extra sets and tools to change them. can be difficult but worth it. I also always start each motor and get them running on the trailer with muffs. you just never know
  23. I am planning on a trip to Fair Haven. We would stay at the State Park in the RV. Are there any particular maps showing depth that I could access prior to coming? Especially if they had the landmarks on them. Iknow what the bluffs are, but some of the other landmarks in this thread I have no idea
  24. anyone considered a 4 blade prop? Wonder what the difference is
