Lake Reports Oswego/Mexico?
Firechief48 replied to Bearcat's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I realize we fished yesterday during the week but what a difference 10 days made in the amount of boat traffic. Only a dozen trailers in the launch and only a few boats out. I think you'll be fine close and maybe start tight first thing but myself if I was there I'd go deeper. -
Lake Reports Oswego/Mexico?
Firechief48 replied to Bearcat's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
We fished yesterday one final time out of Mexico in front of the big river 130-160 FOW. Decent bait and marks, mostly below 100'. Went 1-4 landing a nice Coho on dipsey with FF out 275. Missed one other on dipsey out 225 and lost 2 off riggers down 120/130. Still fish there but as you said getting close to climbing a tree so we packed it up for the year. Weather should be perfect next few days, good luck with the fish and deer. -
I do agree with that statement however what if it's the other way around? Last steelhead season I was running low on pencil lead and none of the stores had it or knew when it was coming in. I ordered it and had it in 2 days. At the end of the season the local stores still didn't have it. I always buy local when I can but doesn't always work out.

Mexico end of season Well we gave it one last hurrah on "Knot Hers"yesterday out of Mexico. Fished 130-160, 1-4 landing a nice Coho 275 off a dipsey FF. Another great day on the lake but any day on the water or in the woods is great. I'd love to fish more and I know there's more fish to be caught but leaves are changing and that means it's almost time to be in the tree. Good luck to those still pulling lures and good luck to those joining me in the woods. This year on the lake was absolutely outstanding. Hopefully we'll all be doing it again next year and if it's half as good as this year it will be great. Tight lines and many points. A few pics from this season.

You just can't fish properly without the radio playing.

If you have a fencing company near you they can get it if they don't already have it. When I worked for a fence company our stockade (solid picket) panels all came from Canada.

That's what it's all about. Congrats and hopefully just the start of many memorable trips. -
I have a couple of the flasher storage boxes and I made some out of large plastic boxes made by Ziploc or Rubbermaid. I ripped strips 1"X1/2" on table saw then cut groves in 1/2" width side 1"" apart to fit flashers. A little glue on the bottom of the strips and. Screw in each end and good to go. I can fit 15 in each box with the fly wrapped around them.

Usually 2.0-2.3 is best for me but at times I've had good action down to 1.5 at the ball

Dipsys for dummies
Firechief48 replied to JTowne's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
30 series reel will hold 1000' of wire, you don't need backing. You heard about the rod holders so I won't say that again. As far as running only dipsies then adding the riggers so you don't tangle, I've been at it for quite some time and 2 weeks ago while running only 2 riggers and 2 dipsies had a king wrap everything plus get into the big engine. We got the fish but had a tangle. If they want to make a mess they will and do it in a hurry. -
Dipsys for dummies
Firechief48 replied to JTowne's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Absolutely run dipsies, as Luke said some days that's all your bites. I have #1 and mags, run 1's mostly. As others mentioned you only need wire to hold off the flees which show up during the summer heat but I would load wire (1000') on the reels right from the beginning then you have it and it's not expensive and don't forget the Twilli Tip. One thing you want to make sure of is that you have GOOD STURDY Rod holders as these fish hit viscously sometimes, you don't want it pulled from the boat. Don't make guick, sharp turns when pulling dipsies or any wire, make long slow turns. Here's a depth chart to help you out. It may take a little time but you'll be glad you did it. -

I don't think it makes a difference but the first one I put it with was chrome/green dot. Worked well so I left if alone. -
