Agreed it;s not worth the worry just drain the block My 4.3 litre Mercruiser has 6 drains 1 each side of the block below the exhaust headers aft of the engine and 1 on the bottom of the exhaust Mani both sides as well as on on the risers both sides. I also pull the hoses and leave them off Takes all of 10 minutes to do and you don't have to worry

Goatboy replied to FleetTracker's topic in This Old Boat
Yeah wives can get a little tricky about our boats sometimes... I get the " this is a expensive hobby" comment everytime I drop a few Ks on my mistress !!LOL BUt then I take my two sons out every Saturday morning at 6:30 am and she has the entire day off, apparently it's the best money she has ever let me spend!!! -
I needed something to reach in past the gimble housing and clean the female end off the outdrive shaft in the motor bell housing, it' got a lot of dried up old grease in it I bought a barbecue brush with brasss bristles at the dollar store for 2 bucks A snip hear and a bend there and voila a thrifty new tool I will let you know how it works

zeroing in on salmon early
Goatboy replied to Hooked on Kings's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Damn I can't wait any longer, its only my second year and I find myself stairing at my boat in -10c hoping the snow will melt so I can get her back in the water. May 1 seems a long time to wait -
I have the Fin on the plate and trim tabs I'm hoping the weight helps with. The big waves when heading home on plane, right now I get bounced up pretty bad.

I have a Islander 221V and it's a little light in the water, great for gas mileage but I get beat up in the chop. I was wondering if any one has added a couple of sandbags in the cuddy and found it Beneficial ? Is it Worth the effort to dismantle the cuddy bed and what will I find under there?

I have a 89 Islander 221V and I have to hoses in the aft section that both leave from under the engine up over the batteries then along the side to a couple of vents. I only have a blower on one of the pipes tho I think the other is to suck air in while the Air blows out

i have the trim tabs and a 221v Islander with a 4.3l. mine are electric and I use them all the time the work great. Just remember that the smart tabs are designed for heavier boats made of fiberglass ours are much lighter, not sure that it makes a difference.

It's not really about speed but fuel efficiency. If I have to use more RPM to get my boat up on plane then it needs I want to make adjustments. I 've heard of some people getting 30mph at 3000RPM with the same boat. Since I know that my boat will plane at about 20MPH then they can achieve something at 2000 RPM that I can only do at 2600 RPM. That equates to hell of a difference in Fuel at the end of the year. I don't believe the Maresk company is concerned about getting something the size of a aircraft carrier up on the last 3 feet of stern for fuel economy

Hi All I was wondering if I could get the Islander owners out there to let me know what speed they get at 3500 RPM I have a 1989 Starcraft Islander 24ft with a 4.3L Mercruiser (approx 190hp) with a alpha 1 drive, I Get 27 mph at 3500 RPM and 31MPh at 4100RPM The reason I'm asking is I checked the compression and I'm over 150psi in each piston after I rebuilt the engine in the spring and I'm wondering if I'm getting all the performance I should be from it? This is my first I/O and I have no clue what I should be getting out of it Any input would be appreciated

Goatboy replied to gpearce's topic in Ontario, CA Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (North Shore)
I'm out of Bronte and I have had no luck up close still getting some 9 to 10 pounders in 140 to 170 FOW at about 47 to 57 ft down or 250 to 300 back on #3 dipseys. But i'm using Atomic on spinners and woblers. I think I will try in closer with plugs on the surface what sise Spoons are you guys using? I was told they weren't biting on spoons anymoore. -
I get a little vibration at a certain speed usualy about 2500 RPM + I get a knocking sound when I turn hard to port or starboard at low speed. Could it be my Gimble Bearing?
-
I wouldn't mind knowing one as well . I have a 22 Starcraft Islander and I'm thinking of putting a Hard top on when the canvas is bad
