  1. Congrats. Mrs. EsoxOnly. Nice fish!!
  2. Cool!! I wonder if any of the other tags have been reported caught..
  3. From the comments here, and from discussions I have seen in the past on this subject it seems that south of the border we were taking measures to control them when north of the border, nothing was being done. Now it looks like the situation is turned around and they are taking measures to control them north of the border while efforts are now being blocked to the south. Since they are migratory birds, it seems like it would make sense to have a coordinated effort to control them. One of the things that may have been a contributing factor in their population explosion and their impact on fish populations, could be the clear water due to invasive mussels and other factors. The clear water may be making it easier for them to devastate fish populations in some areas. I wonder if there are less cormorants around waters that are naturally turbid.
  4. That would have definitely been a good one to see. A drone view would be priceless.
  5. Yes it was probably around 10 am. I did hear something about a man half overboard.
  6. That missing fin is because it was clipped. They clip a different fin on stocked muskies every year in a specific rotation through the pectoral and ventral fins. When the fish is captured in a trap net or caught and reported in a diary, they know it is a stocked fish if there is a clipped fin. If there are no clipped fins, it is a natural spawned fish. They can tell by a combination of the gender, size of the fish and which fin is clipped, what year the fish was stocked. Funny, I had to edit and use the word gender instead of the more commonly used word for gender because the language control bot inserted "fun loving" in place of that word.
  7. As always, it was a good time but I still have yet to catch a fish in the tournament. I had an exciting two seconds of hope with a fish that hit my lure as soon as it hit the water. I think everyone on the south end heard my AAAAW!! when it got off. It felt and looked like a good one too. It was a good social time at the get together after the tournament. I like that picture of Capt. Ed with the fish. It looks like he is sprinting across the boat with it.

  9. Jim found another cottage. It is a cream colored cottage on the west side across from Swarthout Point. The address is 9240 Wixon (or Wickson?) Rd. It is off of Keuka Hill Rd. Awards will be presented there, as well as cookout and raffle table.
  10. Here are some details. Fishing hours: 7am to 3:30 pm. Start time could change if there is a fog problem. Registration: at the State boat launch between 6am and 7am. Awards are scheduled to be at about 4pm. The cottage we usually have on Swarthout Point was rented to someone else so we are working on finding another suitable location. We may have another cottage. If not we will decide on an alternative location for the awards and hopefully cookout and raffle. Stay tuned for an update.
  11. Maybe you can look for a trade for a short shaft motor.
  12. I caught a small pike about 24" on a lure almost half it's size.
  13. Yes it was a good time. They are doing very important work at the TIBS on Governors Island. Dr. Farrell really put into perspective, the importance of the work they are doing not only for muskies but for the entire St Lawrence fishery. Thanks John.
  14. Any local anglers who are so inclined are encouraged to come to O'Brien's between 1 and 2 pm and say hello.
  15. Looks like just 3 Chapter 69 boats so far from this side of the border. I haven't heard about any coming from other chapters. We will be there tomorrow. Hope to be on the water by early afternoon. Can give a holler on channel 9 if you have a radio. We are staying at PJ's, about 5mi E of Clayton. Stop by Fri evening if you aren't doing anything. We may be in the restaurant having a fish fry.
  16. Will any other boats be joining us besides Bob and Jay?
  17. Thanks for the offer Bob. I am going to pick up a replacement cable from West Marine now so it looks like I will be able to get my boat going. Just hope I works out and I don't run into any other problems.
  18. solgrande, The only ones I know about are you and FishinNY. FishinNY, Still working on finding a solution. Jim might be able to get his boat going. Also, West Marine might have the cable I need but if they do, it might have to be sent to the store. If that is the case I doubt I would have it in time. Hopefully we will figure something out tomorrow.
  19. It is looking like I am not going to be able make it due to a problem with my boat. Jim was going with me too. I have no solution at this point. See this post in This Old Boat http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/61080-urgent-need-a-shift-cable-for-1990-mercury-control/
  20. I was just checking out my 1990 18' Grumman boat prior to our St Lawrence outing with with Muskies Canada and Muskies Inc. I was planning to go up on Friday. Started up the 1990 75 hp Merc. main motor and I decided to check to see if the gear shift works. It wouldn't shift into forward .Then I tried reverse and it shifted into reverse ok but when I put the shifter back to neutral, it stayed in reverse. I found out that the solid stainless steel wire that it uses (not a multi strand cable) had broken on the inside, right where the cable enters the front of the engine housing. I guess it would have been worse if it happened after I got on the River. I haven't started looking yet and being that it is a 1990, I am wondering if it is even made any more. Or if there is someone who makes an aftermarket part or a universal kit. The cable has to be the correct length to fit the boat also. I also really need a new trim switch which is mounted in the shift handle. Does anyone know where I might be able to find what I need? Or will I have to try and find used parts or a used set of controls? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I guess it will be a miracle if I can find what I need and get it installed in time for me to go on the trip on Friday.
  21. I think Fat Trout is talking about the little fin on the lower unit that can be adjusted to compensate for steering torque. On a boat without anti-feedback steering, if it is adjusted wrong, the motor torque will push the steering hard in one direction and if it is adjusted correctly, you don't have to constantly fight the wheel to keep the boat running straight. If your boat has anti feedback steering and the fin is adjusted wrong, it will take considerably more muscle to steer in one direction than the other. But that wouldn't cause your RPM to go too high. If the anti-cavitation plate is at the right level when the motor is lowered, as discussed above, then most likely you need to go to a higher pitch prop. You should find out what prop is on it and what is recommended by the mfg. If that is a standard motor they ship with the boat, the manufacturer should be able to tell you what prop should be on it. Once you know that, you need to find out the specs of the prop that is actually installed. Possible scenario. These thing do happen. Maybe someone came to the dealer before you picked up your boat and wanted to buy a prop because he just destroyed his on a rock and needed to replace it in a hurry. The only one they had was on your boat. So they thought they could sell it and get another one in before you take delivery. Then when they didn't have it, someone said, "throw this one on it".
  22. What is the screw you referred to that you said was filled with silicone and then you filled it with epoxy. Is it a screw hole? I wouldn't think silicon or epoxy was originally intended there. You might want to find out what is supposed to be there. Maybe it is an adjustment screw or a place where a jet should be installed.
  23. Meetings are the 3rd Monday of month every other month, Jan, Mar, May July, Sept, Nov. Sept. 19th membership meeting 7pm at the Moose Lodge in Henrietta, NY Our guest speaker will be Rick Kustich. Rick is an avid fly fisherman and author of several fly fishing books hailing from Grand Island in the Niagara River. He just completed a book on musky fly fishing which is scheduled to be available in January. One of the flies that will be pictured in the book is from chapter 69 member Mike Small of Long Lake, NY. Rick will be giving us a power point presentation on all the basics you need to know to successfully fish for muskies on the fly including gear tackle fly patterns and techniques. This seems to me like the ultimate challenge in fresh water fishing.
  24. Thanks Bob. I will have to check it out online.
  25. Sampson Marine in Red Creek NY. 315-754-0050. Clint does good work.
