  1. Also recharge ASAP and don't let water level go low.
  2. You might want to see if you have an Interstate distribution center in your area. In the Rochester area it is in Henrietta. You might get it a little cheaper. Plus fresher. Call ahead because they might have to put in the electrolyte. they also have more than one size/capacity choice.
  3. Once is once too often. Antenna too!!. Mine has heat shrink on it because of that. My tall anchor light could be a problem too.
  4. That would be a good start but I think more needs to be done for pike in New York. It might be good for them to also consider reducing the creel limit in other (or all) waters and also consider raising the minimum size to 25 - 30 inches, at least for some waters. Or maybe a slot limit to require release of fish in the 25" or 30" to 36" range. That might help weed out the hammer handles and help to produce more trophy size fish. It would be nice to see 40" pike become more common like they were in the past.
  5. You will have to find a way. I don't know what is involved in removing the padded panel and if there is metal behind it, that won't do you any good. If the panel below, that the connector is in, is attached with pop rivets, you might have to drill them out and then replace them when you are done. You should use aluminum pop rivets. It is best if the pin is aluminum also. Herb's Fastener Supply or Hewes Fasteners in Rochester should have them so you can get the right diameter and length.
  6. For the bow mount, if the panel that the power connector is mounted to is in the way, you will have to remove it. Then you will have to drill the holes from the top and install bolts from top and reach under to install washers and nuts. Stainless hardware and nylock nuts are appropriate. If the bow panel is not sturdy enough, you may have to install something under the panel to reinforce it, such as an aluminum (1/4 inch) or plywood plate. But since you have a connector for a bow mount and battery compartments for it, the bow is probably already sturdy enough. For the wire to the downriggers, use marine grade wire (it is more resistant to UV, moisture, corrosion and vibration than automotive wire) and make sure the wire gauge is heavy enough to carry the current demand. Keep in mind that the longer the wires, the heavier the gauge must be. Google "12 volt system wire gauge chart". You must have circuit breakers of the proper rating close to the battery.
  7. It might be just some jokers trying to start a riot for the hell of it.
  8. Those tiger fingerlings are probably actually fattening up the bass and the bass are probably eating more tigers than the tigers eating bass.
  9. Maybe (probably most likely) there is serious environmental contamination on the property. If that is the case, who would be responsible for it once it is sold? Maybe it is a hot potato that nobody wants to end up holding.
  10. I would think the beeper would be standard equipment and not an option. It seems really strange if you never had it. Mine is inside the housing and connected with bullet connectors. You might want to ask a Merc. repair shop or check out the wiring and mechanical diagrams. An online Mercury forum might be helpful too. I noticed that in the Climer service manual I have for mine, it shows variations in wiring diagrams and there was one that didn't have a beeper in it (I don't know why) but it didn't have power tilt either. So you might want to make sure your old controls will work properly with the 4 stroke. Even if they look the same there could be important differences. Especially because one is a 2 stroke and one is 4 stroke.
  11. Also, I get a momentary beep when I first turn the key to the run position before I start it. This lets me know the alarm is working.
  12. If you got the controls along with the motor there might be a beeper in the control assy. I'm surprised you didn't have a beeper with the original motor. I have a 1990 Merc. 75 hp and it has a beeper in the control assy. It beeps when the level is low in the oil injection oil reservoir. The oil reservoir is inside the motor housing and has a sensor at the bottom. I think it will also beep if the motor overheats. For a four stroke, I think there should be an alarm for low oil pressure and for overheat.
  13. Looks like you were doing a little rocking and rolling in those waves. Enough to make a weak stomach .
  14. There was no ice around the Sea Breeze launch last weekend. Just a few chunks of ice floating out the channel to watch out for. If your boat is low enough, you can get under the bridge. No docks there though.
  15. I'm surprised he gave them 2 stars. Probably because it sounded like the service guys wanted to help him but their hands were tied by management. I guess he didn't have any cracks though. If he did the water would have drained out. Most everyone else gave only 1 star. Probably no way to give 0 stars. I have a friend who has a 17' single console with a 40 Merc. He hasn't used it that much in the last 8 or 9 years but I don't think he has had any problems. He didn't buy it though. He won it in a raffle.
  16. Fishermen rescued there this morning. http://13wham.com/news/top-stories/fishermen-rescued-from-honeoye-lake-after-falling-through-ice
  17. John is a great guy and very experienced fisherman. He teaches grade school in the Buffalo area. He has kids raising trout and stocking a small stream and teaches and takes them them fishing.
  18. I recognized John too!! The background has probably been darkened for effect. It also almost looks like the fish swallowed a flashlight. There is red eye on the fish so a flash was used. It would be funny if the fish had shades too!
  19. Maybe he should have had marine insurance on it.
  20. Insurance won't pay for that.
  21. I was thinking along the same lines as far as stocking. Even if the numbers stocked are less, if they are stocked at a larger size and if we can get anglers to help with stocking to spread them around in protected areas, that might translate to increased survival to adulthood. This might have a larger impact at Conesus than Otisco. I was also wondering if pen raising after they reach a certain size would be a practical alternative. I'm not sure how much work and/or expense would be involved. Maybe bait to feed them could be trapped in the lake. In the case of Conesus, I was wondering if SUNY Geneseo students could make it a project.
  22. What limit are you referring to? The only recent change for tigers that I am familiar with is the 2012 size increase on Otisco to 36" from 30". Since 2012 do you think that had a significant impact there? And in waters that have tigers and purebreds, size limits for tiger was made the same as that for pures. The statewide limit for tigers is 30". So the min size at Conesus is 30". I think it would be good if they make the statewide limit 36" and maybe eventually 40", depending on future assessments. But I also want to talk to the DEC about current Conesus Lake stocking sizes and methods to see if changes could be made to help reduce early mortality. I am not an ice fisherman but I am wondering about best catch and release practices dos and don'ts for ice fishing including tackle, hooks, tools and concerns about protecting fish from sub freezing air exposure.
  23. New date for the meeting is this coming Monday Jan 25th at 7pm at the Moose Lodge on West Henrietta Rd.
  24. Musky Road Rules (Tony Grant and Greg Thomas) has teamed up with Muskies Inc. to help increase membership. They will be offering a free Grandma lure for the first 25 people who sign up or renew their membership at the show.
  25. This is all interesting and worth discussing but I would like to get back to the original topic and my intention of this discussion. My intention for this discussion was: 1) To try to identify possible reasons why the Conesus Lake tiger fishery has not shaped up as well as that at Otisco. This includes discussions of observations and thoughts as to why and if more data needs to be gathered. 2) Discussion of ideas that could practically be proposed and implemented to help improve the Conesus Lake tiger fishery. 3) Ultimately having the same discussions with regional DEC Fisheries Managers and to find ways to bring the angling and local communities together to work with them to help create a trophy tiger fishery at Conesus. This might include learning about details of current stocking, monitoring and other relevent management activities, bringing volunteers together to help with research and other field activities, raising funds, seeking donations and soliciting help from SUNY Universities for research and management expertise. This discussion is just the first step. I want to take the ideas and thoughts I gather here to regional DEC Fisheries Managers to have a discussion about if this is a goal they are willing to support and how Muskies Inc. Chapter 69 can help to reach this goal. For those of you who are not members of Muskies Inc. Chapter 69 and are interested in becoming involved in an effort to improve the Conesus tiger musky fishery, I invite you to join us and pitch in to help us make it a reality.
