  1. They sure are fat there!!
  2. My guess is that more of us have done that than would like to admit. They say you learn from your mistakes but this is one of those things you can have a lapse of memory with. The first time is usually not the last.
  3. UPDATES 1) Second registration location has been added. 2) Friday night Muskies Inc. Chapter 69 meeting will be at Mike Sperry's "Chautauqua Reel Outdoors" bait and tackle shop. Click HERE for details.
  4. I would guess there are fuses under the drivers console behind the dash. There is a good chance there are inline fuses on the wires at the battery or there might be a fuse block near the battery. If it is an older boat, there could also be issues with corrosion at any of the electrical connections, including the fuse holders. Wiggling the wiring while watching for lights to come back on might reveal that. I just had to go through and clean connections for all my fuses and some other connections with scotch brite pad and sandpaper. I clean up battery connections every year.
  5. I have heard that it's good up there for eyes but I wouldn't want to eat them.
  6. I'm sure the night trollers aren't too happy about the launch fee machine.
  7. Started yesterday about 6:15pm. Cast east side points and NE corner til dark for pike and tigers. Just got one LMB.Then trolled S of launch E side with sticks for eyes. There was a lot of alwives on surface. Even snagged a few on sticks. No eyes. quit around 2:30. Surface temp was 66.
  8. Muskies Inc. NY Chapter 69 will be hosting Captain John Oravec Musky Fishing on the St. Lawrence River At our June 16, 2014 membership meeting Location: The Moose Lodge 5375 West Henrietta Rd., Henrietta, NY Meeting starts at 7:00 PM Captain Oravec will begin Approx 8:00 PM Our guest speaker will be the legendary Captain John Oravec. He will be giving a presentation on fishing for muskies on the St. Lawrence River. Captain Oravec is one of the most experienced Great Lakes fishing guides in New York State with over thirty years experience and fifteen years experience guiding for muskies in the St. Lawrence River. He will be presenting detailed information on a variety of tactics, techniques and locations for targeting muskies on the Larry based on his many years of experience and success in the area. He has previously given presentations for the Three Rivers Chapter of Muskies Inc. and The Niagara Musky Association and I have heard that puts on an excellent program. This is free and open to the public. If you have any interest at all in fishing the St. Lawrence for muskies you don’t want to miss Captain Oravec’s presentation. Even if you don’t ever fish the St Lawrence you can learn some things that you can apply elsewhere. I suggest that you take notes.
  9. As Muskies Inc NY Chapter 69 has assumed full responsibility for managing the Chautauqua baitfish fund and tournament, we are evaluating ways to ensure that our efforts to manage future tournaments and suppliment the Chautauqua Lake musky stocking program will achieve the desired results in the future. As part of this process, we will be suspending the annual tournament in its traditional fundraiser format for this year. In its place, we will be holding an open catch and release tournament, following the OPEN TOURNAMENT RULES. Click HERE for details. We hope to bring back the Baitfish Fund Tournament in 2015.
  10. I was planning on fishing Conesus on Friday evening for tiges and then into the night for Eyes. Would appreciate any reports or tips. Also I was wondering about lake level, debris, and if there is still a 5mph speed limit on the lake.
  11. The oil is coming out of the exhaust port. If the kicker is a 4 stroke, it may have leaked some crankcase oil into the cylinders. I have an Evenrude 4 stroke and I remember reading in the instructions, not to lay it on a particular side. It will cause oil to leak into cylinders. You might have to check to see if oil is in cylinders. Turn it over a few times and then pull a plug and see it there is oil on it. If there is oil in the cylinders, the motor won't start until you get it cleared out and cleaned off the plugs. Also, check the crankcase oil level to see if it is low. You should do an oil and filter change anyway. I am not sure how to go about removing oil that has leaked into cylinders but if that has happened , it will not start until you get it cleared out. If you plan to trailer the boat ant distance with the kicker on the bracket, it is a good idea to cinch it in tight with a ratchet strap to keep it from bouncing around, which will put stress on the bracket, motor and transom.
  12. It is always saddening to hear about something like this. This makes me think twice about going out alone, even on a small lake. It is very possible to fall overboard when trolling and watching as your boat pulls away. I guss the best thing to do is to take every precaution when out alone to prevent a mishap from becoming a tragety. My heart goes out to this man and his family.
  13. Justin, I was thinking that if there a number of loclized walleye clubs throughout the finger lakes, maybe a federation of finger lakes walleye clubs could be set up, with each club having one club representative. It could be similar to the Erie County Federation of Sportsman's Clubs or the Chautauqua County Fedreation of Sportsman's Clubs. Larry is our representative in both of those organizations. I believe there are other counties that have similar groups. These organizations are comprised of a variety of different fishing, hunting, and gun clubs. I'm not sure if there are other types of outdoor sporting clubs involved, such as kayakers. bicicle clubs hiking clubs etc. I believe if a club wants to be a part of it they have to pay anual dues and would then choose a member to be their representative. I am not sure about what they do for funding besides the dues. I'm not sure what would be involved in setting it up. It may also involve applying for non profit status. Larry may know the answers to these questions. In Erie county, there is also the Erie county Fisheries Advisory Board which I believe advises the county in regard to any fishery related projects funding they are involved in. There may be similar groups or the potential to form similar groups in the various counties in the finger lakes to help to organize funding from the state and other sources for fisheries projects in each respective county.
  14. I would also like to hear about the meeting. Our chapter meeting is on the same night so I won't be able to make it.
  15. I am VP of Musly Inc. Chapter 69 in NY. Last month Brad Hammers from region 8 DEC office came to our meeting and gave us a presentation on the angler diary study. We had previously talked to him about it and he decided to start an angle diary study for Waneta lake because we showed an intrest in participating in one to help them gather useful information which will help them to gauge the past and present musky stocking efforts and help them determine future efforts. They have been doing fin clipping for many years and the information we can provide them in the diaries, including size and fin clips, will allow them to detemine how well various year classes are doing in the lake. With the size and knowing which fin is clipped, they can tell the year class of each fish and gauge growth rate etc. They can also use the information to determine angler success in fish per hours of effort. The more anglers they have paticipating, the better and more accurate results they will have. Even if you do not catch any fish, you fill out a page with info on how long you fished and the species you were targeting and that helps them to determine number of angler hours per fish. Also the more years that they have good numbers of angler participation, the better it will help to determine long term trends. So the more anglers particiipating and the longer they participate the more useful the data becomes. The more anglers that participate will help to show the utilization and this information could even be used to show the legislators in Albany the degree of utilization which in turn can mean more funding. I also signed up for the Conesus Lake diary. I may only fish a few times there this year but I figured it can still be useful information to them. Here is a phone # Brad Hammers gave us to call if you want to participate in the program. 585-226-5343.
  16. Yes Larry, We do not have a speaker for the meeting. I will be sending out an email, but here is a brief update. As you said, the presentation of Bob Solley's award. We will have raffle tickets for the booze basket raffle and need some more members to help selling them. I was also thinking we could talk about fishing tattics on various waters for the upcoming season. We could also include pike and tiger fishing for those who are interested in fishing for relatives of muskies. The State of the Finger Lakes presentation in Lima is unfortunately on the same night as our meeting. I would have liked to attend it. The board has decided to still have a tournament at Chautauqua lake but it will be a Chapter tournamet run on the same format as the Tiger Tournament under the MI points system. It will be $25 entry, $5 for big fish pool and 50 - 30 - 20 payout for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Start time at 7:AM with registration between 6 and 7:15 AM at the Pendergast launch. We do have a speaker, Captain John Oravec, scheduled to speak at the June meeting which is June 16th, the Monday before the opener.
  17. That's a nice one Chris got.
  18. Justin, How do you determine the depth of the lure? And how do you achieve such a depth just off a board?
  19. I didn't catch any fish but had a good time getting on the water and tageting teeth for the first time this year. The weather was better than I thought it would be and it was good to get together with everyone and meeting many members of this forum and MI Chapter 69 members I haven't met before as well as other participants I have never met. I want to thank everyone for participating and helping to make it such a good time. Justin, Thanks for the coffee in the morning. It hit the spot. Good luck to all of you this season. Hope to see you all on the water. Steve Glassic VP, MI Chapter 69
  20. Justin, When I click on the link for the DEC report I get a message that says the page doesn't exist. I was interested in what the stats for Tigers were. I was able to find the 2012 report on the website. I wasn't sure if the diary study includes Tiges but I found out fron the 2012 report that it does.
  21. I wondeer if it will be any better for the Tiger Tournament next Sat.
  22. You might want to check out Pages 2 and 3 in this forum topic. There are quite a few posts for Otisco Lake and one on page 3 from last year's tournament. There is a variety of lures mentioned. Old Man check out the lure in the post titled Otisco 9/11.
  23. From What I heard, at last year's tournament many of the fish were caught trolling. The biggest one was caught casting. Small walleye size baits are the general rule like Rapala Husky Jerks and similar baits. Ones with a lot of silver. Spoons could do the trick too. It might not hurt to try some a little larger.
