  1. like sk8 said,we use the big jon mini discs in the shallow water.you can put these out on your mono rigger rods.its just another presentation.you can fish them right behind the boat.we usually put one down the shute, its not out very far.so if you hook a fish on something else, you can bring it in quickly to get it out of the way.
  2. we dont use a snubber,if you set the drag right and know how to fight a fish,no need for a snubber.if you are fishing for salmon, you shouldnt have any plastic rod holders on your boat, especially for a dipsey rod holder.
  3. love the summer pics, hate the winter pics.!!!!
  4. wire only here, you dont want stretch, when the fish hits you want the dipsey to trip and sets the hook.your mono leader, which we make the length of the rod you are you using is the only stretch you want.we use okuma 30 series reels filled with 1000' of wire and 10' talora rods.there is nothing like the feel of a salmon on a wire rod,you can feel him blink his eye's!!!!!you do want your drag as loose as possible and you have to expain to people, especially bass hole fisherman,NOT TO TRY TO SET THE HOOK.
  5. nice spoons barry, looking forward to getting them wet!!!!
  6. just saw an article yesterday on newz junky about putting them on galloo island.
  7. talk to a real person and spoke english????that would be amazing!!!!!
  8. overton's has something like what you are looking for.they are made for a party barge, but maybe it will work for you.
  9. i went to okuma convectors for this season, but i had the magda pros with 2 seasons on them and had only one fail.they have lots of up and downs on the riggers and many salmon on them.best bang for the buck for me.
  10. we use the "breakaway"cable,as stated above, its made to brake before your rigger cable, cheaper to lose a ball, then a probe.
  11. if you dont already have some type of down speed/temp unit, they are worth every penny or should i say 5 pennies!!!!haha.if you are looking to up grade for the blue tooth,i dont see it being that important, the only plus would be if your head unit stops working you can view it on your phone or i-pad,i think???
  12. what gill-t said was also confirmed by the captains at the lotsa salmon school.
  13. i agree with skate, there is no "definite" answer here.you need to have both.another thing to keep in mind is how you present each one, whether its on a rigger, wire,or copper.we usually split the boat with spinnies on one side and paddles on the other and let the fish tell you what they want, but like skate said, sometimes its neither and they want spoons, which happened quite abit last year.another thing to consider is your trolling speed.i believe spinnies can handle a higher trolling speed then paddles,so if you have spoons out and your speed is up abit, then you may want spinnies out instead of paddles.what ever you have out needs to "look good" in the water.and like what was stated above, its not an inexpensive sport!!!!
  14. there was a guy that set up a party barge and sold bugers, dogs, and beverages on the weekends up this way.cruised around all day.you could call him and he would come right to you.it was called nautical nibbles.seemed like a great idea, but he only lasted a couple of years.
  15. www.tunasreeltroubles.com located in luddington,mi.i sent him a takota that had a screwed up drag and the clicker didnt work, sent it to him had it back in a week, cost 38 bucks with shipping both ways.i am going to send him all my reels next year for a going through.
  16. i was pretty sure it never froze over, but after "googleing"it,you may be right glen, but, all the info that says it has was from the canadians, ill dig a little deeper.
  17. lake o has never froze 100% as long as records have been kept.i believe the winter of 78-79 was the most ice coverage which was around 75%,last year was close.
  18. pm me your number,my boss has a friend that is a mechanic at a dealership out there, maybe he can help you out.
  19. we must be neighbors!!!!
  20. hey theres my broken dock!!!!!
  21. is that 2.5 on a fishhawk or subtroll????just kidding, but for those of you who didnt make the lotsa salmon school, there is a difference.sorry paul.
  22. i went to fat nancys when she started getting hot to get some extras.i think thats what they gave me,but it just didnt look "exactly"like what i had.again,im no expert and dont know the fly names.im going to work on that this year.
  23. there was alot more white "tinsel"than whats left, but it caught fish right till the end.this set up was our best f/f of the year.
  24. talked to a buddy yesterday who was at mexico point and said the bay is full of ice as far as the eye can see.we stopped at wrights landing and mexico point after the lotsa show 2 weeks ago and there wasnt a piece of ice on the lake.it kinda got my juices flowing!!!!
  25. to be honest,i have no idea, dont even know what brand,i have been learning spoon names and flasher names the last 2 years,so this year i am going to work on the fly names.this combo had so much action this past season that there isnt much left of the fly.hopefully someone can i.d. it,cause id like to get a replacement, however, what worked last year, doesnt mean its gona work this year!!!!i will dig it out later and post a pick, maybe one of the pros will know what it is.
