been out the last two weekends and not much happening.the only hope in the near future is it looks like a west wind for a few days at the end of this week and into the weekend may set things up,we will see. -
if i were you id wait a few more weeks till the lake sets up.gona be hard to find them, things have been hit or miss on the east end,but my thought has always been if you dont go you have a 100% chance of catching nothing!!!!!

finsntins replied to ToddL's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
fished yesterday from noon till 5,90 fow to 200 fow between little salmon and the plant.1 steely on 60 ft rigger with a slider.carmel dolphin.fished mostly spoons with one f/f out.2 riggers with sliders,2 dipseys,1 copper and 1 5 color.marked alot of bait between 100 and 130 fow,but no hooks.surface temp. was around 60 all the way out to about 180 then dropped a few degrees.every 10 ft down the temp. dropped a few deg.needed to be down around 80 ft to get water in the mid 40's.did hear some guys on the vhf picking up lakers and steelies out in 300 fow where the surface temp. was 50 deg. -
pretty simple here, make loop in wire, pass loop through eye, pull swivel through loop and cinch tight then do one or two overhand knots and cinch tight.not sure what others do,but this has never failed for me.

just going through an overtons catalog, hand held 100 bucks.base radio,8' antenna, and ratchet mount 150 bucks and free shipping.worth every penny of that extra 50 bucks.the only thing you will need to do is be able to soldier in the pl-259 connector that screws onto the back of radio,if you are not capable,im sure you can find someone to help you out or you can get a screw on one from radio shack,i like to soldier them on,but screw on one will work.
-
exactly what was said above, can you put a price on your life and your passengers?dont waste your money on a hand held, get a fixed mount and good antenna,8 foot would be best.think there are a couple in the classifieds on this site.

Copper Setup Questions
finsntins replied to Dan1's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
i ran the same setup last year, with copper down the chute.it produced quite well.problem with it down the chute is you should bring it in when you get a fish on one of the other rods or you are asking for a mess,so,it can be a pain, especially if you only fish with two people on the boat.im going to run it off otter boats this year.300 is a good starting point.like what was said above i am going to add a 400 and 500 this year.as far as buying one, atomic sells them as a package deal,as does hills valley, which is a sponsor on this site.if you fish around pulaski, the local tackle shops also sell them all set up.oh,and by the way, after pulling in a few on copper, now when it fires,i usually find myself in the cabin or piloting the boat and let someone else grab it!!!!!!you will see why.haha -

Spro swivels question
finsntins replied to Fishbowl836's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
i use them between copper and braid, not sure what size,i know they are rated for 50 lbs, just make sure they are small enough to go through your level wind.i had a cabellas depth master i set up for browns and it wouldnt fit through. -
GREEN DOT BIKINI!!!!!!! get both spinny and e-chip.i run spinny on dipsey or copper and e=chip on rigger.hot set up last year
-
sounds electrical if shuts off that quick,i would put a spark checker on it,ones you can run the motor while connected and see if you are loosing spark.if you dont have a spark checker, get a can of starting fluid, shoot it in the carb when goes to die,if it brings it back, then you know its not spark and probably fuel problem. try using a different fuel line, primer bulb and tank to see if you have a bad primer bulb or bad tank vent.if that stuff dont work, try to find a respectable yamie dealer.
-
That early you would be better off further west,if you are going to fish east, you may be heading offshore pretty far to find fish and you will need a lot of cable on your riggers!!!!

Catfish to salmon river
finsntins replied to lily's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I've been here all week.like was stated above, slow steady pick.little salmo around to catfish out to high rocks.10 to 30 fow.spoons on riggers,Carmel dolphin has been good all week.sticks on boards.silver/black,gold/black,andperch have worked. We have managed 5 to 10 browns per day with steelies, bows, lakers and 1 king mixed in.mostly small fish, couple browns around 5 lbs and 1 steely 8.5 lbs.good luck! -
Ran over to the plant today hoping to get a king but it didn't pan out.fished from the plant to alcan,3 browns,3 steelies and 1bow..8.5 steely and 5 lb brown.steelies took j11 perch rapala on the board,Carmel dolphin on the rigger was good again today.fished 30 to 60 fow.going to try tomorrow morning if the weather cooperates, then we will be done for the week.
-
Started earlier today,on the water by 6,started from little salmon and worked our way towards catfish, not much happening, turned around and went almost to big salmon, turned and headed back, picking at them.boards were dead, riggers with a small pink colored spoon and orange crush on the other rigger, got back past little salmon and things picked up a little, boards came alive with anything with an orange belly seemed to work, also, downsized on the sticks.finished the day with about 8or 9 browns, two were around 5lbs,3 rainbows and 1 laker.tomorrow is another day
-
Not as god as yesterday,5 browns,1 laker,1 smallmouth, and one rainbow.cattfish to high rocks.lasker we caught between high rocks and stacks.riggers never moved.all fish came on sticks.silver/black,gold/black.slowed down a bit on speed, around 2.0.48/49 degree water.couldn't find colored water like yesterday.tried 10-30 ft of water.back at it tomorrow.
-
First full day in the bay.fished from catfish to the high rocks.caught a dozen or so browns, all small,3 steel head, small and one 13 lb king.carmel dolphin and a straight chrome spoons on riggers and fire tiger,gold/black,and silver/black sticks on boards.speed was 2.5-3.0.10-20 ft water.be back at it tomorrow.

run your hand through the stream when the alarm goes off,if it is actually running hot you will know,if the water isnt "steaming"then you may have a bad sensor.also, before you get deeper into the motor,if you have easy access to a ramp,i would try running it on the trailer in the water, sometimes they just dont get enough on the ears especially at idle.
