  1. i was on a 25ft parker last year for a tournament in 8 to 10 fters and the boat handled the waves very well.gunnels seemed to be high enough to put your knees against and not have to worry about falling overboard.this boat had a closed transom with a 250 yamie on a bracket.after a few rough days on my boat last year with an open transom and taking waves in the back,i sold it and bought a boat with a closed transom and motor bracket.i feel alot safer with the closed transom out in the big water.both parker and steiger craft are quality boats.
  2. if you are interested in these riggers, make me an offer.
  3. i have a slip at mikes this season, his number is 315-963-3119.nice people,he has gas there and a ramp.bout a 10 minute ride to the lake.
  4. i have only been at this for 2 years now,but i will throw in my 2 cents.i generally like to be between 2 and 2.2.how ever on certain days under certain conditions,it maybe faster.what is important is to pay attention and make a mental note of when you get bit.if things are slow, try making turns,if your probe rigger gets hit, obviously, note the speed and adjust accordingly, but if your other rigger is taking hits, note your probe speed.if your other rigger is on the inside when turning, then you need to slow down a bit,if its your outside rigger getting hit, then you need to speed up a bit.trial and error.dont be affraid to try differnt speeds if things are slow and let the fish tell you what speed to troll at.hope this makes sense,im sure you will get much more advice from guys with alot more experience.
  5. i have 2 cannon classic electric riggers.i believe they are similar to mag 10s.they are older riggers, but in great shape.they have solid ss booms.i bought these last year and used them every weekend with no troubles,i used 13 lb weights, they are a little slow, but very reliable.i will sell them with swivel bases,2 shark weights and 400ft of brand new big jon cable.i can deliver to the pulaski area to save on shipping,id rather not ship.heading that way this weekend.if you are interested, please call and i can send pics to your cell phone,i cant figure out how to on here.i wont send pics if you dont call.id like to get 400 bucks for the pair.315-357-4337.jason.
  6. i took a big jon mast and cut it down to about 2 ft with dual pullies and mounted it in the front/middle of my hard top, then mounted the reels on each side of the posts that holds the hard top up in the rear.seems to work for me.if you cant go that way.i was on a boat last year that had a down rigger boom mounted on each side of hard top in the front and the reels mounted in the back of the hard top.if you cant find a mast,i have seen rigger masts and pullies on e-bay,fairly cheap.
  7. tim if that doesnt work, google bobs machine shop,it came up for me.they are out of florida.
  8. not sure where you fish, but if its in the pulaski area, just bring them to juniors, its not worth cleaning them yourself,he charges 2 or 3 bucks a fish.bring them in a cooler, leave with fillets!!!dont even get your hands dirty.
  9. this was my second year going and once again went home with a bunch of stuff at great prices.this is a great show for newbies like me to stock up on equipment and not spend an arm and leg.i would like to talk to more lou members, but dont know anyone, maybe next year we could do name tags with your lou screen name so you can put a face to the name.would make it easier to strike up conversations, just a thought.
  10. i was in fat nancys today and they had them in both a paddle and spin doctor,8".
  11. took a ride to mexico point after the elotsa show today and was supprised to see water out a couple of miles from shore.we were up there two weeks ago and the ice was out as far as you could see.never thought id say i was happy to see white caps!!!!!think spring
  12. a couple of weeks, thats being optimistic after getting almost two feet of snow on top of the two feet we already had!!!!i like wishful thinking though.did find it funny as i am going to dmv tom. to reg. boat and trailer.
  13. i bought a couple of "spoon pouches" from amish outfitters.com.they are not made to roll up,but hang so you can see what you have.good guality.
  14. i agree with g-daddy,i use 3m rubbing compound which you can get from napa.if you have or can borrow an electric buffer that would make the project alot qiucker and easier.just becareful on stickers and decals not to burn through them.once you are done, then go over again with colonite marine and aironitics wax.she sure will shine!!!if you have problems with swirl marks try wetting the buffer pad every so often.
  15. hahaha, its funny, but true.we may be doing that in may!!!!
  16. hey barry, making plans to go fishing the last couple of days really got my juices flowing!!!thanks for the motivation
  17. got up this morning and looked at the thermometer and it was reading -20!!!,i like the cold and snow, but since i got hooked on fishing lake o,my tolerance for the winter is shrinking.so i went out and started cleaning up the yard, moving trailers and stuff to get snow banks pushed back and as i was working around the boat,i just couldnt stop thinking about her,so after a few pushes i said the hell with it,im gona pull her out.so after about an hour of digging and sanding so i could get some traction, out she came!!! so now she is sitting in the middle of the driveway so maybe next week i can start getting some work done.THINK SPRING!!!!!!!
  18. i agree 100 percent!!!there are alot of very informative fisherman on this site that i have learned from.still alot to learn and the more you ask,the more you learn.
  19. i was up to the lake last week, walked out by the beach at sandy island state park and the ice was out pretty far,you could see darkness out towards the horizon, which i figured was water.think we will have extra time this year to get boats ready!!!
  20. hey dj,do yourself a favor and buy dan keatings dvd's or better yet,buy the book,i thought the book had a lot more info than the dvd's.he explains,in great detail what you asked.great info here, but he really takes the time to explain, light conditions, color, lead lengths, density and size of fly, speed, presentation.i have learned alot from all the great fisherman on this site and learned alot from keatings book and dvds.plus it passes some time till fishing season.
  21. i saw on long island craigs list a few days ago a guy was selling a raymarine s 1000 for 700 bucks brand new in the box.thts a pretty good deal if it will work on your boat.
  22. thanks guys,i did buy new reels this year for wire,so i am going to spool it from one reel to another.you guys saved me some cash, cant say that to often when it comes to fishing!!!!i put 1000 feet on last year and only had one big tangle where i lost about 50 feet or so,so i should be good thanks
  23. im new to using wire for dipseys and was wondering if you guys change wire every season or can you get more than one season?thanks in advance.
  24. you are not alone my friend!!!!!it never ends, but its worth every penny.if you think wire is fun to work with, wait till you try to deploy the first 50 feet of copper!!!!
  25. last year was my first year with wire dipseys and it was well worth it.alot of action on them.always keep keep tension on the spool!!!!i let it out a ways and then put it in rod holder with it in gear and just enough drag to let it out slow and then go deploy other rods.another valuable lesson i learned when fishing wire dipseys is a quality metal rod holder and strong mounting surface.when a king hits that dipsey,it has alot of stress on it and if you cheap out on a rod holder or mounting base.you will be sorry!!!!
