When I was young my Dad would take us Lake Trout trolling in northwestern Ontario. We would use open face reels and meter our clear mono line with black or red permanent marker. I can remember taking one end of the line and pulling it across the back yard. We had a 100ft tape. I don't remember the distance of our metering marks, but the method worked great on the water. Thanks PAP, they weren't the only store that didn't know what I was talking about. I always tell myself that if I worked a job like that I would try to do a little research into what I was selling and what other products are out there. The attitude, however, that I am sometimes met with is that 'I will sit back and wait to see what corporate sends us.' Hence all the more reason to shop at your local bait shop or company-direct. I am a collector, I buy way more lures than I need - my wife thinks I need a lure-addiction support group. I walk into those stores excited, researched-up, and ready to buy. I've had the most success with running a marine starting battery (NAPA brand) and buying as many cold cranking amps as I could find - for my motor and accessories. I run my electric trolling motor and downriggers off of deep cycle batteries and wire a permanent marine trickle charger to them at night. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Green Glow Frog long shallow was hot for me last summer for inland lake walleye (in Michigan). Out performed everything else I was using, at least for August fishing. haven't tried Bay Rats for browns yet, but am looking forward to it. Too many options and too many colors! I have all long shallows so far - gobie, glow frog, orange, black. Their quality is worth the $. I ordered direct from Bay Rat. Walmart.com sells them now. Nice job. Looks great. I have a friend who is a certified welder and he welds for free as long as I prep everything. Soon I will learn how to weld aluminum. I have access to CNC machines so I can make just about anything. It's a lot of fun. I mounted my Rod holders to an old set of track mount downrigger swivel bases. Conduit is difficult to weld since it's usually galvanized via hot dip or electroplating, and has thin wall sections. It can be done, but you have to have the right wire (flux core MIG) combination. Don't breathe the fumes......I don't have experience welding conduit, but you can find the set-up information on many welding forums. I made 2 sets of 2" aluminum vertical trees with 3 Rod holders per side. Cut the pieces and angles I needed on a miter saw. The length of tubing cost just over $100. I also run all line-counter Convectors. I have them in size 15, 20, and 30. I've had the larger reels in 45 and 55 series, but the 30 series will do everything I need them to do. I thought about upgrading to Coldwaters, but at this point it would be a waste of $, as I am perfectly happy with what I have. I'm targeting inland lake steelhead (rainbows). In 80 to 120 feet of water. The fish are generally suspended higher up in the water column, so they could be anywhere from 30 to 50ft. I use Poseidon mini flies....they have one called the Steelie Stomper. With a size 00 orange Luhr Jensen dodger. I run them straight off the side of the boat with a 6oz teardrop weight hooked to my line with an Offshore snap. I vary the line distances to experiment. I run crank baits off the back. Anything orange with an added snap weight (3oz). Had good success this summer with Salmo lures (orange/gold). I have a 16ft deck boat, it's wide and very stable. The Krazywolf releases appear to be a copy of the Offshore. You can buy similar ones on EBay direct from China. Yes, Offshore are expensive - but they are better than the copies out there and you have to shop around for the best deal. There are some stores and sellers asking way too much for the Offshore, while others are fair. All mine are Offshore. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I use the red offshore clips as well with all weights up to 12oz. I use 6oz most often. I bought several 6,8,12 oz tear drop with eyelet weights off EBay from a guy that makes them. Seems to be the best prices there. I started off by buying the Offshore snap weight kit at Franks Great Outdoors. Includes several sizes and I keep adding to the collection. I use the lighter weights behind boards and the heavier ones I keep close to the boat or directly behind. I use them the most with stick baits, to give them some extra depth and also with small spoons and fly/dodger combos when targeting rainbow. I still run my larger spoons off the riggers. I use 30s for riggers and dipsies but 20s for everything else: 2 and 5 color leadcore, planer boards, etc. I love how comfortable and versatile they are for different set ups and species. Do I think they can be used for Riggers? Yes. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
