Rocket launchers, what is the purpose?
LakerTaker replied to garrymny's topic in Tackle and Techniques
They are used during trolling (not for rod storage) when pulling planer boards. I use them for in-line planer boards. They are typically called vertical rod trees and they provide better line separation as compared to horizontal rod trees. The top tube can be used as a net holder or keeping an extra rod ready during trolling. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

I was in Cabelas last week and saw these for the first time. Opti-Tackle torpedo planer boards with tattle flags. They were $29.99 each. Anyone use these with success? I see Marine General has them for $19.99. Thanks for any info. I did a quick search to see if anyone was talking about them and didn’t see any posts. What size Cowbells?
LakerTaker replied to Waltzin Sue's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
X3 on the Hammerhead 5/0. Even with their large size they have less drag (pull less) than old school cowbells and lake trolls. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
I have 2 Traxstech I bought used on EBay for about $25 each. They don’t come up very often at that price. I use them every trip. Sometimes I keep the net in underway, and sometimes I don’t, but they always double as an extra rod holder for storage. If I were buying new, I would buy Cisco. I have mostly Cisco rod holders on my boats - blue and black. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Growing up I always heard WD-40 contains fish oil. Supposedly, that’s an urban myth. It’s mainly hexane (or naphtha in Europe), mineral oil, carbon dioxide (propellant), and inert ingredients. We will never know the exact recipe.....but the fish seem to like it. I sometimes dip my lures in crayfish oil (sold by trapping companies). I’m not convinced it helps either way, however. If you want a higher drag in a smaller reel for riggers, check out the Daiwa Saltist H-C model. They have 20 pounds for both the 20 and 30 sizes, compared to 15.4 pounds for the Saltist HA models in size 20 and 30. Best price is on EBay and Walmart.com (that I could find). http://www.daiwa.com/us/contents/reels/saltist_h-c/index.html# Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I used to get sick a lot but have found relief if I 1) don’t drink coffee (caffeine) on a fishing day 2) drive the boat to and from the trolling area (always bring a driver for trolling) 3) stay standing 4) watch the horizon and rod tips 5) stay active on the boat (run the downriggers and set the lines and hooks) 6) don’t look at the boat floor very often and 7) save the big meal for after the fishing trip. Having multiple rods set up ahead of time with back-ups helps too. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

That’s too bad, Mercury13. Ours closed for a couple of months with no explanation and no movement of inventory......looked like it was abandoned. Then they decided to reopen. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
