  1. Monday we went southwest of the finger and started in 170' of water after seeing 65 degrees from top to bottom in closer to the finger. Had 48 degrees down 110', worked out to 220'. Caught 7 pound steelhead in 190' down 110' on spoon. Stayed in and worked 170' of water most of day, caught 5 lakers, 2 steelies, and 2 tiny kings. Had one break off on dipsy that was definitely a decent king. Was a decent day but we all want those kings, however two 14 pound lakers and a 17 pounder left us somewhat content. Be back out Saturday, hopefully good numbers of mature kings. Gotta happen soon, and I'm sure it will, like the flip of a switch. Anyone getting a good bite the last few days? 5. I'll be home in a couple weeks, hope you guys have some good info for me, can't wait to get out off Stoney point. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Fishing was very good out of Stoney on Tuesday, I did a solo trip for a few hours and caught 5 browns, 1 lake trout, and missed two more right behind the boat. Most water just south of the creek was well stained and 44 degrees with a lot of fish around from 10' to 25' of water. Also had some big hooks show up on the screen in 35' of water. Warmest water just out of the bay was 48, coldest I hit was 43, but didn't cover a lot of water, didn't need to. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. I'm a rookie to the walleye scene, but would like to give it a try. Hoping someone would be kind enough to give me some advice on tackle and tactics. My 20' boat doesn't do well on windy days for browns on the main lake, hoping I can find some action in Black river bay or Chaumont since I live in Watertown. Sure would appreciate any info people are willing to share as this weekend will be my only chance for walleye this year, will be gone for work until a short trip home in mid June. 8. What I believe is possible, is that when starting the engine, that amperage draw will affect everything wired together. If the weakest link is the 10 guage wire then it would heat up and burn out, the supply from the selector switch and to the outboard is 2AWG, it won't burn up. I think I need the breaker at the terminal to protect the wire to the downriggers, but will that trip everytime the engine is started?
  9. It will be 10 ga wire to riggers. The transom post I believe is a high amperage post for power supply to start the engine, just wondering if when I actually start the engine and the amperage draw is needed, will it also travel through the downrigger wire?
  10. Question is, if I run power from here, will it burn up the 10 ga wire to the downriggers when I start the engine? I checked the supply with the downrigger by touching the wires to those transom terminals with engine off and battery switch on, worked fine. But not sure what might happen when I start the engine with high amperage draw. Downriggers are protected by built in 25 amp manual reset breakers.
  11. I am getting power supply hooked up for two new downriggers. Boat is a center console with two marine starting batteries located ahead of the console under the frack. Power runs from there to a selector switch under helm. Then there is power run from the switch back to transom post, and from those transom post to the outboard engine. This picture shows those transom terminals.
  12. Any action, or access up there yet?
  13. Sandy creek by Hamlin, NY which is just west of Rochester. I take it you were wondering about our Sandy Creek between port of Ontario and Stoney point on the east end. I too, would like to know the ice situation north of sandy pond.
  14. We also got out Saturday morning, caught 19 browns, a small steelhead a one laker. Biggest brown was just under 13 pounds, but had some terrible lamprey marks on both sides. At 11:30 we headed out to 70' of water and caught the lake trout.

  17. I'm looking into a chip for my lowrance HDS 5 which I use solely for navigation. Hoping to get some good suggestions on most detailed chip, I fish the eastern end of the lake. Right now I'm seeing two options of navionics fish'n chip, and navionics platinum + marine 648P Lake Ontario. Does anyone currently run either of these, or better yet, anyone have experience with both? Is there another chip other than these two that you prefer? I appreciate the help, thank you for reading. 18. I hear ya. They stay on ice in the live well but had to pull them out and get measurements to check on slot limit for legal fish since only 1 per person can be between 25" and 30". Seemed like a good photo opportunity. I definitely can't wait to get out, but I don't think it will be mid march like last year.
  19. And temp being among the most important. Gotta find the water in the mid 40's through summer. You hear people saying that find them suspended in summer at times, and that's all based on the water column and if the cold water is available up higher. The 20 lber in my post above was 100' down in 140' of water while salmon trolling with flasher fly. Those will be hit or miss occurancies. In your case trying to target them, consistent action will be on flats near structure just off the bottom. It does sound like jigging would be a fun way to catch a deep laker, and typically when you troll and find one there are many. This summer I plan to try jigging once I have found a group trolling, but can be hard not to upset trolling traffic since I fish near the trench Stoney point.
  20. Keep it simple, just get as close to the bottom as possible, pay attention to where majority of boats are concentrated, and in my experience this past summer they are not picky at all. I stayed with white and green flasher fly and occasional mag spoons in a variety of colors. Having an X4D is like cheating. If you know the exact depth your downrigger is running and the speed and temp down there then you are way ahead of the game. One thing I seem to be less worried about than what I am hearing from other post, is speed. I caught a lot of fish in the upper 2 mph range.
  21. Anyone go in the trench yesterday, or going today? Just wondering what the temps are like now, and if there are still a lot of fish marking? Last weekend was warm water down to 120' with a lot of fish marking near bottom, any change?
  22. Saturdays 32 pound male was dark already with red belly.
  23. Hello all, My buddy has a 32 lb salmon he would like to mount, we have all the measurements and good pics. We are from the Watertown area, just wondering if anyone has suggestions for best place to go and approximate cost a person should expect for a fish this size. I have only had deer mounted, will be first fish and looking for some direction. Willing to drive if there's a better option farther downstate.
