Just drain it - look on the bottom half of the sides of the motor for 4 brass T shaped wing nuts. Spin them and poke the drain holes with a wire to knock the rust and then the water should drain out. If you really want to be crazy you can also remove one engine hose at a time to get the last of the water out. Better safe than sorry in my book.

So I currently have a Humminbird 597 without down imaging. I just got an Raymarine EV200 autopilot and its runs NMEA 2000 and my current Humminbird doesnt - would require extra cables and a $200 translator. I was taking a look at the Garmin 50dv - do you think it is a good one to go with for Great Lakes fishing? I could sell my humming bird and use the cash towards the Garmin and I'd be almost at the same prices as trying to convert the NMEA signal on my Humminbird.

Anyone ever convert a mercruiser from points to electronic ignition
vetting replied to vetting's topic in This Old Boat
So no need to upgrade then. Probably wouldnt hurt to change the cap/rotor, plugs, and wires this spring. I thought being an 89 it would of been the old style, so I was surprised when I saw the thunderbolt cap when I looked at it today. -

I listed these on eBay to get some more exposure. Usually I just sell direct but I needed to get rid of these as fast as I can to replenish my fishing fund. Just for you guys on the forum here - if you win 2 or more lots, I will cover the shipping costs. The current deal I have on ebay is free shipping on 3 or more lots. If you do purchase 2 more more lots, just send me a message after the auction ends on Sunday and I will adjust the shipping costs. Listed below are all of the links to the auction as well as the current price as of Thursday night. Purchase with confidence - I have an 8000+ positive comment rating on eBay and over 25 transactions here on this forum. Anyone ever convert a mercruiser from points to electronic ignition
vetting replied to vetting's topic in This Old Boat
Now Im confused if mine is actually a points distributor or not. Its a 89 5.7L 350 - think its a chevy. It looks like it has a Thunderbolt IV on it. So is that a points distributor or is it already considered an electronic ignition and the Petronix wouldnt apply? -
I use mag wheel polish and a mr clean magic eraser. After that just scrub them with some dish soap to clean the polish off. Works awesome on vintage painted spoons as well.

What version of sport pilot? I know the new EVO ones are NMEA2000 and I think most HBs are NMEA0183

Would also like to know. I previously ran a depth raider and I think there is a slight difference in speeds between the 2. Usually I ran 1.9 to 2.2 on the depth raider. Really what you should do is try to keep it around 2.2 to 2.4 on a Fishhawk and then record if you are catching fish at a higher or lower speed. You can also do S curves and if they hit on the rods on the inside of the curve its a sign you are going too fast. If they always hit on the outside rods of the curve, then you need to speed up a bit.

Just got the letter from the Milwaukee marina (Lake Michigan) that there will be no boats launched until at least May 1st due to all of the marina/dock damage and that fact that there is 2 feet of ice yet. Our usual splashdown is April 15th. Went down there and there are docks heaved and almost a 1/3 of the plylons between the slips are bent at a 45 degree angle or more. Im not sure how they are even going to fix those. Man this winter really sucks....
