Another track question/18" Horizontal Pedestal mounts
Egoody replied to tj13825's topic in This Old Boat
Hi, I've just started to use big boards and planer mast last season so i don't have a lot of experience but so far my set up has been working fine. I have the Lund 18ft Sport angler with the sport track. My planer mast is located in the bow where the front pedestal seat would be. I bought 2 Cisco rod holders for each side of the boat that mount into the tee slots of the sport track. The Ciscos are easily removed or repositioned anywhere along the track. In the pict, the rod that is straight up is the one to the board. Don't know if this helps, but just another idea for you. Thanks and Boat Safe Egoody -
I have just finished adapting my front seat post to be able to mounty planner mast in. After i figured what i needed for spacers. I bought a 3 ft piece of nylon 66 from McMaster Carr on line, that i cut four 8in long pieces from. It just happened that i could use a standard thickness they sold. 5/16 inch thick. I laid out where the spacers were to be mounted, drilled clearance holes in the post and drilled and tapped corresponding holes in the spacers. The spacer material cost about $6, pretty cheap. The last thing I did was to drill a hole though the seat post and the planer mast to keep keep the mast height where i wanted it and to keep it from rotating in the post. Hope this helps. I may be way out in left field with this one, but here goes...... I bought a Merc 15 Hp ProKicker to use on a 15 ft Alaskan. Being the cheapskate I am I'd like to be able to also use it on my 18 ft Lund Sport Angler. Now the question..Is there any way to use a kicker with a 20 inch long shaft on a 25 inch transom? The kicker actually measures 22+ inches from the cavitation plate to where the mount sits on the top of the transom. I'm wondering if I can run it just the way it is or is there some sort of bracket that will let me lower the kicker the 3-4 inches to be even with the bottom of the boat while trolling and then let me raise it back when running the big motor. Does any one have any experience with this? Any information would be great. Thanks & Boat Safe Egoody Fitzwilliam, NH

Down rigger release styles
Egoody replied to Pafisher's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I've used the chamberlain stackers on my riggers but never thought about using them on boards. How do you rig them to use with planer boards? Thanks and Boat Safe Egoody -

Thank you for the update. We'll be coming up Aug 15th for a week, out of Fair Haven. Planning on Running FF, spoons and maybe meat rigs. Have down riggers, dipsey's, big boards and flat lines. I've never run the meat rigs, but thought I'd try them. Any recommendations on any of the above. Thanks and Boat Safe Egoody

I have an awful time attaching a swivel to the end of the wire. There always seems to be a "lump" where I make the termination. I just know will get caught in the rod guide. I try to do a haywire twist and put a heat shrink over it to make it as smooth as possible. I expect that as soon as the termination gets to the guide the line will snap and I will loose leader, FF and/or lure. What is the best way to make a smooth termination from the steel to swivel? I can't say much about the Big Jon's other than, a friend had 2 manuals that I kept getting my fingers pinched in them. Just my inexperience I guess. I Bought the Cannon 10 STX's for my boat 4 years ago and have had excellent results with them. Some say they are too fast and the bounce when they come to a stop. They do, so I bought 2 of the Amish Outfitters, 6 inch snubbers. This really takes care of the bounce. I highly recommend the 10STX's and also recommend using the snubbers. Good luck with your search. Boat Safe Egoody

I just bought a pair of the 18 in bags to use on my 18 ft Lund. Does everyone run them with the rope from the tail end tied off to keep them from going under the boat? I understand keeping the front rope short enought to keep them from getting tangled in the prop, but what about the back end rope. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Bost Safe Egoody

Question about Running Big Boards
Egoody replied to Ryno23's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Hi I'm also using Amish Redwood boards for the first time. I've never run a planer set up before so I'm trying to watch all of the info everyone is giving. One thing I haven't seen is how do you run the rods tips? Tip high or more lower pointed towards the water? I have Cisco rod holder, so I can run them high or low or somewhere in between. Thanks and Boat Safe Egoody -
Hi, What was the reply from Amish? I'm asking because I just bought a set of Amish, redwood boards and they haven't seen the water yet. My first use will be when we arrive at Lake O on May 6th. I'm just trying to be ready if they don't run as expected. Thanks and Boat Safe Egoody

Exceeding line test on Daiwa 27H reel
Egoody replied to On the Hook's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I understand the desire to keep fleas off your lines, but I wouldn't use flea flicker line. I spooled this onto my 47H's and hated it. Just my experience. This line is oval in shape and it never laid flat on the reel and took up more of the reel's rated capacity than std line. Most people I talked with use 30# big game and it has similar results in keeping the fleas off. Again, just my experience. Thanks And Boat Safe Edggdy
