Fished the Bald Eagle Tournament this morning with my my nephew and a friend. The bite this morning was insane. We setup in 80’ and by 120’ we had an incredible bite going. Riggers 35-60 cheated were constant, Ten Color, 300 copper, and divers 120-160 pulling anything all took fish. Carbon 14 did a ton of damage first couple hrs, flow frogs, and host of spoons all took fish. SUV SCALE/SPEC LLB Atommik meat rig took most of our meat bites. We generated a solid 30+bites putting 99% in the boat. Big matures, Cohoes, and big steelhead all hit the deck. We shut off around 930 as the front pushed through but around 12:30 the bite fired right back up putting a great finish to our day. 90’-120’fow took most our fish and 170’ was also good. We finished 10th out of 26boats with a 19 1/2lb average for our three fish. Anytime you put together almost a 20lb average and still miss the money you know some great fishing was to be had. Fished today with my sons and we decided to stay away from the boats and target 550+fow (31-33 line) . We ran 40 50 60 riggers (deep riggers cheated), divers 120-180, and 300 copper, and ten color. 99% of our fish came on spoons (watermelon mag best). We landed around 10 kings (14-18lbs), and a lot of steelhead 3-8lbs. Took about hr to find a pod of fish then we would circle it a couple times and move to the next. Around noon we ran back into 120 fow and lakers were stacked (90-120fow). We landed a coupe but the water was loaded cottonwood grasses etc and my patience was done lol. We slid out to 150-200 fow or the last hr , we grabbed another teen king off the 300 copper and called it a day. The lake was calm, beautiful, and perfect for making the long runs. A lot of BIG kings were taken today by friends and 400+fow seemed to be holding good matures. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Find that cold water and marks on the bottom. I usually troll 1.3-2 mph . I have one rigger on the bottom tight and a second rigger 10’ up. Stretch the dipsy so there also hugging the bottom. Lakers don’t tend to be fussy but for best success Hammerhead Cowbells and Gambler Rigs [emoji817] is most lethal combo. Usually find lakers now 90-120 fow on the bottom. With all this Covid crap, 5 kids out of school, and a wife working crazy shifts at the hospital my fishing has been slim Pickens. This weekend I fished the Condor Classic , OOO Pro division , and some Brackets. Friday was a 3 fish box . It felt grindy but we managed a respectable box with our biggest king being 23+ lbs placing us just inside the money [emoji383]. We also won 4 of our brackets that day. Saturday was was first leg of OOO and a 10 fish box. We consistently generated bites but the matures just weren’t cooperating. We did get our box 5 kings 2 lakers and 3 steelhead putting us around 1/3 of of the pack . We lost three of our brackets and advanced to the finals of 1 of them. Sunday was absolutely miserable . We tried inside , in the middle, and out in the shipping lanes. We struggled for every bite and managed 6 fish but knew it was a wrap. It seemed North or South wasn’t our issue, it was East to West. We landed a 2nd place in our bracket for a little more money. For us 180-220 took most of our fish . Although we didn’t do well offshore 31 line , there was some big kings taken out in the 32-33 line. It felt great to be out for some great competition and see a lot of the Captains that I respect. This weekend I’ll be fishing the Bald Eagle Tourney with my kids and hoping to squeeze out Thursday night to do some offshore scouting. Cold water was inside for plan A but ide like to take the peak for a Plan B. If all goes well we’ll be reporting some big fish landed Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Fishmaster 196 with Lowrance autopilot. 3rd season zero issues. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Pro kicker 9.9 xl shaft. I’ve ran mine on a 24’ trophy and now a 196 Fishmaster. I had a panther steer which was “nice”. It suited a purpose but in rough or wind was not great. Now I have lowrance autopilot to the main engine and ez steer to kicker. Love that setup Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Always put 400. Personally I take 10-15’ off a month just to minimize losing a ball/probe. It’s common every season I’ll take Kings with riggers out up to 200’, and if you have a tangle you’ll have plenty to keep going. Such cheap insurance to simply put the extra on Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

When your new to the sport every season is hands done better than the last and this yr was ten fold. I hate putting the boat away however today is the day to strip her down. I managed to average over 16hrs a week Chasing King’s from April through September with my daughter by my side 99% of the time. To me this season was all about reading the water and adapting appropriately. If you have the ability to fish with a lot of great fisherman you’ll probably realize we all own basically the same equipment, however the guys that stay dialed in have an ability to adapt to the day like second nature. While fishing with my mentors this season i always pick up a few tricks simply by quietly watching them (which is why I advocate people charter once in awhile). We put a lot of fish on the deck and I had the opportunity to meet a handful of LOU members that joined me on my boat. I’m hoping to try a little laker jigging ing over the next couple weeks byt the trolling season is a wrap. We never found our 30lb so next yrs goals are already set.......
