I don't touch the unit until the LITHIUM batteries i use go dead. I find these batteries last longer considering you're running your probe in water usually less than 50 deg. down to 32 deg. My connection broke and I ended up soldering a new spring and little metal plate with the wire attached; when the battery goes in it compresses the spring and hold in tight.

I've redone 4 transoms similar to what you're attempting; pain in the butt but worth it once you get it done. If the Coosa board is not easily available, I used marine grade mahogany in two 3/4" layers which I glued using West System marine epoxy which I thickened and mixed in shredded fiberglass shards, troweled this on one side and primed the other with the epoxy I then placed in on my flat garage floor and placed concrete blocks on it till it set. I also, epoxied and glassed in the edges of the plywood to seal it for good. When reassembling it predrill the holes or match drill them from your old transom and seal all the drill holes with the marine epoxy too; 2 coats. When installing the hardware I used 3M 5200 marine sealant/adhesive in the holes, on the shaft of the fasteners etc. This transom will be stronger and most likely last longer than you and me on this Earth. Yes it can be done. Typically hand lay up is done in layers of glass cloth of various weights. laid up and rolled out on a reverse mold (good side down) with a gel-coat finish if desired. This should all go into a 'autoclave' which is temperature and pressure controlled for a pre-determined time. Bagging and sealing the lay-up and vacuuming out the air before going in. They make aircraft parts our of fibreglass, kevlar, carbon fibre etc. in order to get the strength and lightness into the finished part. I'm sure you can find some good info on line. The materials are not cheap; the mold will take time and will require 'automotive' type finishing to provide a final product that look perfect; lots of bondo, filling/fairing agents and sanding, sanding, sanding........ Since there was only one small salmon derby on the Lake last year due to shutdowns etc. Maybe enough 3 or 4 year old fish were able to live another year rather than being taken out of the lake for a derby??? Who knows. There was a 38.6 lb fish caught the day before the derby (not eligible) plus others in the high 30's all in June!!!! The lake record of 45 lbs is not too far off those fish!

In our Country just North of you; they've already taken steps to take away our guns! Too distracted, sleepy and dump-ass people; you just can't get through to them because they have the brain of a gnat.
