Sonar Map recommendations please

Thanks TLR. I have been playing with navionics on my iphone and it seems decent. Gonna give it a run on the boat before buying a card. -

Thanks Tyee. Pretty sure it is compatible but will check. I haven't looked at Lake insight yet. Appreciate the suggestion. -
Sonar Map recommendations please

I believe that we have been wasting some time by fishing unproductive waters since we really haven't focused on bottom structure, drop-offs, points, etc. So, I would like to refocus our efforts and hopefully build a decent list of specific sites to target when fishing. Our FF is a lowrance 7 HDI. I would be happy to find a good program that can work with it, but am not opposed to using a separate device for the most detailed maps. Been playing with the Navionics I-phone app and like it, but would love to try the hotmaps premium. From my review of the navionics site, it appears that they may not have HD maps for the I-Bay area and, in any event, its not compatible with the 7 HDI. Any recommendations are much appreciated. -

should be any day now tinfin. We probably should have stayed in the deep water but was trying to get a buddy some action -
Headed north about 10 miles into 500-550fow. Did a couple smaller kings and a decent steelhead fishing around 60-80 down. The better fish were on SD and Fly with dipsy set at 250ft. Ran in close to try to get more action on lakers and got a laker and brown bottom bouncing with cowbells in 120 fow. Still very slow for majors.

Yep - we killed the lakers on Monday. I was hoping someone has had some success with kings. If no reports, I guess I will drop in about 120 fow and just troll NE with fingers crossed. Thanks -
Seems slow. Anyone having any luck? Bringing out a buddy and son in the morning and hoping to find a few kings. Appreciate any recent reports. Thanks

Starting last year, rules were changed to allow crossbow in the last two weeks of archery season.

Is a sea trial necessary for a boat sale?
moog5050 replied to momay4000's topic in Open Lake Discussion
This makes complete sense. Make a deal subject only to satisfactory sea trial. -
Took the kids out for a little fishing between 1 and 3pm. Wanted action so we targeted lakers and killed em. To the point that the kids were tired of bringing fish in. Biggest was only 14lbs, but had triples on at three different times. Wife started getting a bit sick (more sun than seas sick I think) so we headed in just when I though we could started looking for Kings. Still lots of fun for a short afternoon of fishing. All cowbells/peanuts and spinners bouncing the bottom in front of hedges in 100 fow. Literally never got 3 rods set before one would fire and the next and the next. lol

Best time to sell a boat - Fall vs. Spring
moog5050 replied to momay4000's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Chris I am a hunter first and maintain 4 different properties, but don't give up on the fishing if you don't have too. You can find time for both and targeting kings is a great way to pass time in August and early sept while waiting for opening day. Either way, good luck with the new property. Still time to get a plot in too. Brian -
Went out last night from 5-8. Fished the first two hours working NE from 100-400 feet of water. Only marked two fish and didn't move a rod. Trolled back in to 100 fow north of hedges and dropped some cowbells. Hit a quick triple of lakers (8-13lbs). And that was it. Water temps were warm out deep, in the 70 degree range 85 feet down but they dropped quickly in the 200-150 fow range. Been tough the last few weeks finding kings.

Out of the Genesee

Last weekend was solid for us, but yesterday evening was tough. Generally blank screens trolling straight of I-bay from 140-400 and back with only one fish on from 5-7:30pm. Fleas weren't too bad (using flea flicker), but they did hang up on the wire divers. Unfortunately our fishhawk probe found the bottom of the lake last Sat. so we were fishing a bit blind. -
I am sure the real experts will chime in, but yes, look for significant temperature breaks, both vertically and as you troll laterally. Fishing these breaks should produce. When fishing for kings, I tend to look for temps in the high 40s to low 50s.

Will do Chris. Thanks. -
Especially near I-bay/Rochester. Gives my father, son and I, who don't get out as much as we would like, a starting point when we do. Its much appreciated. First thing I do before heading out is check this forum. Saturday, weather depending, will only be our third time out this year. Looking forward to it.

I Bay 9/9 evening

BTW - both kings hit outside rods on turns. We were trolling in the 2.7 range on the fishhawk, so I suspect 3 plus when the kings hit. -
Since I always appreciate the reports, I decided I should start posting results to the extent it may give the next fisherman a place to start. Fished last night dead north of the outlet, beginning in 70 FOW and trolled out to 90 FOW, generally heading NW. Ran a 6 rod spread with my father, 4 riggers and 2 dipsys. Not a lot of marks until we hit a few bait schools in the 80 FOW range. Had 3 releases on riggers with no one home. These were all spoon hits at 45-55 down (watermelon and green ladder back took these hits). Ended up with 2 kings (18 and 15lbs) on the dipsys both trolling back through the same bait school in 80FOW. Both were set on a 2.5 and out 180ft. One mountain dew SD with glow/green fly and the other green/white SD with crinkle blue fly. Fished less than 2 hrs before it got too dark but it was fun. We did try a couple of J plugs, but no hits on those. Good luck out there. Hope the water calms or it may be tough to get again until after the weekend.
