.25-06 or 6.5 Creedmoor Thoughts? Pros / Cons
dvdegeorge replied to DJ 17's topic in Big / Small Game
A 7mm-08 recoils more than a 25-06 but not enough to be a deal breaker. Forget about the Creedmor unless you handload now 25-06 is not a barrel burner, and I alway laugh when someone mentions that a particular chambering is a "barrel burner" 99.9 % of the guys who worry about it don't shoot enough and will never get close to burning out a barrel in their life time. If you don't hand load forget about the .257 Weatherby it will cost you a small fortune to shoot factory ammo and a deer won't know if he been killed with a 25-06 or a 257 Roy I have killed with all of the above and for deer now a days I prefer my .22-250 AI with an 8 twist barrel and a 62gr barnes TTSX Pole axes deer flat out. My 257 Weatherby -

Yes sir we ate in Oistins last night at Uncle George's fabulous seafood and atmosphere Banks beer and fresh grilled fish! -
well King fish(wahoo) that is... Myself and my lady enjoyed a 1/2 of fishing in Barbados yesterday.its really not prime season here but since I'm missing staging King Salmon fishing back home on Lake Ontario I just had to get out for a day on the water. The captain was great and let me help and grab rods and set hooks.Actually I just started doing it instinctively and then realized what I was doing and the captain said have at it.

Having one hatchery for the whole south shore of the lake is just plain stupid and short sighted. God forbid the day when a catastrophe happens and we lose everything from Altamar. The NYS government which may or may not include the DEC doesn't really give 2 hoots about anything but the almighty dollar....the shame is the fishery here in NY brings in much cash to their coffers. When things crash and really go sour then they will act but I fear it will be too little and too late. -

Fished the Oak 18th,19th and 21st,I bay 20th and Sandy 23rd Aug 18th fished solo 3 rods and couldn't find the fish. Finally at 11:25 when I got to the 32 line got a small steelhead on the rigger.Skunk was off and 20 minutes later boated a 20lb king on the dipsy KOS flash mag.Headed in shortly after as storms looked eminent. Aug 19th Back at the oak solo cleared the break wall at 5:30 am and headed straight to my way point from the previous day. 10 minutes after I set lines the 45' rigger fires and a major peels off 500' of line heading to Canada. 20 minutes later I boated a 25 lb king. I took 3 more kings 8-13 lbs and 6 steelhead with a couple nice jumbos. ended the day 10 for 12. Irondequoit Bay Aug 20th Fished off Rochester today, very sporty out there but made it out to the 24 line and found some fish 6 for 6 with a 23lb King 5 steelhead with an nice 11 lb fish. Stingray size frost bite took the king and 3 others and Bob Fuller custom paddle took the big buckeye and same patterned spoon another Aug 21st back at the oak Rough day at the oak 6 for 7. Two skip kings the rest steelhead was out to 32.5 line and worked back in very sporty out there today. Was Hawaii like waves and rollers Aug 23rd Sandy Great day ran off shore east out of Sandy 32-33 line and we slaughtered them! 18 for 26 Kings and Buckeyes lost 3 absolute slobs, one cracked off the 30lb leader on the dipsy after burning out 550' of wire, another off the rigger went down hard and burned out so much line he ended up getting over my shot gun 400' copper that I had a pike bobber on.Free spooled the copper line, it was out 200 yards and he still found it and wrapped around it and came unbuttoned. Still landed many kings up to 20 lbs and jumbo chrome. Frost Bite was the work horse along with FLT King of Sting flash also a few on wonderbread moonshine.Riggers, dipsys and 400 copper all working

Nice job!ðŸ‘🻠-
Friday went out solo to pre fish for king of the oak event Saturday. I was greeted by 3'ers with an occasional 4' . I left from Sandy and motored west towards Devils Nose set up in 120 and worked 120-140' waters. Morning bite was hot 6 for 6 with 21,24 and 26 lb kings. Quit early as I had 3 friends coming up from Pa. to fish the KOTO with me. Saturday morning instead of motoring out off shore I made the call to run east to the nose. Wrong call as big pods of bait and hooks were not there. We picked away till 9am before I pulled up and motored west and out to the 30 line off the oak. My friends experience just about all lake O has to offer,King, brown, laker, steelhead and a most special Atlantic.Just couldn't get into the mature King fishing I had hoped to show them.anyways it was a great day on the water with friends and many laughs were shared. Fridays solo fish Saturday and a special fish for my friend
