  1. I pm'd ya on the flies. thanks
  2. I pm'd the guy when he first posted these and haven't heard a thing from him.
  3. PM'd ya. thanks
  4. Most web sites make you list all stuff to be sold under one heading, I am surprised it isn't done here. I have also found this site to be rather contentious when listing stuff as for prices, condition of items etc. Folks seem opinionated here regarding said items, whether the opinion is wanted or not. But listing everything under one heading is a good idea me thinks, saves space on the server.
  5. thanks gave it a look.
  6. Thanks man, I googled it and came up with zilch around here. Appreciated
  7. I shall not dignify that with a come back, other than DOH!
  8. Yep wife and I have decided on adding the kicker. After a debacle with my Pro Line and a rebuilt outboard, the old kicker that was on that boat got us home many times, so kicker it is. Looking at a Suzuki 15hp, efi model with a 25" shaft. Any Suzuki dealers around here that folks know of? thanks
  9. I am having a debate with myself of having installed a kicker motor vs. an auto pilot. I run a 24' Penn Yan Avenger, 9.5' beam, and it is heavy. Brochure says 4100lbs unladen weight. Has a small V8(305) in it currently and currently I use Amish bags to slow it down. It also has over sized trim tabs on it which when angled fully down slow it even more so I can get down to around 1.8mph over land speed most times if I need too. I am debating getting a 25" long shaft kicker vs 20" kicker. 9.9hp vs 15hp. The cost between the kicker and auto pilot is actually about the same. This is gonna be a one shot deal, either/or. this vessel has rotary steering too. I have also wondered if Panther remote steering can be had for the big motor? I am retiring in June, and during the week will fish single handed so remote steering or auto pilot is a must. Let me know your thoughts pros' and cons' etc. thanks
  10. I had one Catalina with a matching rod given to me when I started fishing the Big O. The other matching reel it took me 3 years of searching Ebay before finally finding it. Both are 25's, level wind reels which they don't make anymore. I just purchased 2 Convector 30's high speed reels from Als tackle off ebay that I am going to use for wire and probably will convert all my main use reels to the high speed convectors over the summer. Still will use the Catalina's on the rigger though. Shopping for a kicker now too with full controls.
  11. Giving a positive shout out to Chris Kempf, aka Reel Guy, for tunning, and putting back together my Magda DX 30's. Sent them on Mon. he got'em on Tues and cleaned, lubed, tuned and made sure everything was good with them. Basically he put them both back together, sent them back on Wed. and have'em today. They never felt so smooth! Perfect service and very inexpensive considering everything. Anyways he's local in Buffalo, does excellent work, and is fast. Super reasonable too! thanks man, keepem wet
  12. I don't know, let me see over 6k laid out by me and my wife, cash money, no loans etc. Engine blew up twice, constantly stalling which they couldn't pin point, 90 day warranty which was never reached with either of the two re-builds on the motor, over heating issues, carbs out of sync, which they fixed as best they could. I am the consumer, paid my money no questions, happy to have the motor, motor absolutely did not work correctly from the get go. What don't you get I mean being under warranty and all?
  13. Yep the Pro Line was hooked up for fishing that is for sure. Big open deck with no obstructions, auto pilot with hydraulic steering, GPS, Depth Finder and our kicker we put on. A very dry ride too and it went fast when it went! Trolled right down too. A story: We were about 5 miles out on a Sun. morning a couple of years ago and the big motor decided to quit on us. Everyone stayed in closer to shore but nope my wife and I went where the fishing was good, and the wind started coming hard out of the s.e. and the main engine decided to quit. We had the kicker going and we were using the main for boost. Main quit, the kicker couldn't keep up and it was a hairy half hour while I worked to get the main going again, had a rats nest under the boat, and actually took two big ass waves over the transom, over the top of the main and into the back of the boat. It has scuppers though but for a minute or two we had a good bit of water on the deck and up to about my mid calf. But it is a sealed deck and we went side ways into the waves but after that we put the sea bags out and we kind of stayed into the wind after the boat swung. It also has a salt water transom where the engine hung off the back of the boat about 3' so you can imagine my consternation when the waves came aboard. Got the motor running, don't why it started but it did and home we headed. Wife swore she would never get on the boat again. I hated that Ocean Runner motor.
  14. Bought a re-built outboard from them 2 years ago. Evinrude 225 to replace a 225 Opti that went south. Long story short motor ran for a total of about 1 month total that would be considered trouble free maybe 3 weeks total. Ended up settling for half my funds back. Lots of stuff went on between me and them concerning said motor. The second time it blew they sent it out to have it rebuilt, apparently it was rebuilt locally the first time. This was in late Sept of 2014. I went over in November to grab my batteries and my boat was sitting in the yard. The motor was uncovered, and covered in ice and snow and the top half of the lower unit where the power head sits was a mess as for chalking etc. Arneys got the power head back and they put it on and put the boat in last May at Hughes where we stay in the summer and by the 3rd week in June with little usage on the motor, maybe 20 hours it blew again. Took it to Puglsey's to have them assess damage and they said it appeared to have a detonation issue that caused the #4 cylinder I think it was to melt. They (Arneys)put me on a low priority, there words not mine, when this happened. They didn't want to rebuild the motor again for a third time and I didn't really want to have it rebuilt again-so long story short we ended up buying a used Penn Yan Avenger, and we haven't looked back. So after a little over 6k invested in the outboard(cash money) we got less than half back. BUT they did offer to do that for us which I am grateful for. I can not tell you how many times that Evinrude o.b. crapped out on us on the lake. Good weather and very very crappy weather, which not being that experienced on the Big O and with my wife whom has very little fishing experience can be a bit trying and actually the pucker factor can be quite high in such situations. I also had an old 1988 9.9 hp kicker, Mercury, on the boat and that got us home more times than I can remember. Ran like a top too. Sold it with the Pro Line when we sold the boat and bought a Penn Yan. The Penn Yan runs like a top, and we have had 0 problems with it. As for the boat the outboard was on it is a Pro Line Sport Fisherman that I absolutely loved. Just a great boat and very well kept. Looked like it was going fast just sitting at the dock. That was sold for a song and a dance as it sat in front of Hughes up by the road. Now there is a lot more that went on for weeks and weeks of not having the boat for fishing in the summer of 2014. Matter of fact when we picked it up for the very first time and took it to Hughes via the lake to put hours on it, it broke down with a broken carburetor linkage which just so happened to be in the evening, in the middle of multitudinous thunder storms in the area. So Holy Mackeral came and towed us in to Hughes. We made it about as far as just east of the block house. Should have known then that something was amiss but hey live and learn. PS after it blew the second time they assumed that maybe the boat( Pro Line) was water logged, and maybe it was over taxing the motor,so we had a survery done at Arney's as the boat was there and I figured maybe it was. Well the boat passed with flying colors and according to the engineer who looked at the boat and gave us the survey he said that with the motor that was on it, a 225 Ocean Runner, it should have no problem moving the boat. Oh yea it was a surveyor they recommended. That was an extra few hundred out of pocket, my pocket for that service. We used the same fella to survey our Penn Yan too. Folks that fish out of Hughes know all about the trial and tribulations of the late KlondikeWilly.
  15. My experience most definitely differs. Very very expensive lesson too!
  16. I've got a heater on my Avenger that runs off the engine but the fella I bought the boat from disconnected it cause the heater always seemed to be on even when off. It is a big heater too! I just dress warmer is all in the spring and early summer. Not a fan of anything that can tip over or over heat that didn't come with the boat as a stock item, cause you never know.
  17. I use Amish bags currently on my Avenger. Looking for kickers now and am shopping around. Love the bags when it is rough out as it keeps the boat right on the water and calms the ride down a good bit. The boat has over size trim tabs on it too so I can angle them fully down and get the boat slowed down pretty good and the bags really get it slowed down and I can keep the rpm's up a bit at the same time. All that being said I owned a Pro Line that I truly loved but blew up two motors on it and frankly the kicker I had on it, an old 2 stroke Mercury brought us back in several times when the big motor quit. I must have had the two most unreliable outboards on Lake O on that boat. The thing I have to consider is that unloaded the Penn Yan Avenger weighs in at around 4100 lbs. It is a real heavy weight in that regards. I think it is due to the extra foot of beam width. So looking at 15 and 9.9 hp high thrust motors with all the goodies. But will always keep them big mouth Amish bags on board. Just a good comfortable ride with them. thanks
  18. Ok tell me what to do. I have the parts to the reels in baggies. Dragmaster Drags. PM if you could. thanks
  19. Yep bought 4 sets of drag washers from Tuna Tom's. Figured I'd upgrade my drags not that I can remember that they weren't doing the job with the stock set in there. So 4 hours later, one frame bounced off the wall, they are boxed up and going back to Okuma to have them reassembled. The single biggest factor in not getting them back together is is the anti reverse pawl or foot or whatever you call it. I've no idea what it hooks to. So there ya go. PS the frames are very tough I'll say that!
  20. I think these are 10' in beam width. Almost the same as a Prowler for lay out and such. Just no hard top on it.
  21. I agree but its a 16 yr old motor. I do know Tohatsu makes a ton of other motors for big name players. At least the power heads.
  22. Talked with the fella today. He owns a Marine engine repair shop and he and his partner bought out a marina that had a bunch of motors. He is located up near Lake George. These are the last 2 he has left. These are 2000 motors, never run new old stock in the box. Comes with the control box with the key etc. Can feed off the main gas line and will charge your batteries. No power trim or tilt. He has one hooked up and ready to run in his shop so folks can see that it does indeed work. So there ya go.
  23. I had the Penn Yan I bought last year, fully surveyed by a reputable Marine Surveryor. He did a very large number of things to determine sea worthiness and detect rot and moisture. First is the hull tap all around the boat. Second is a moisture content reading with a moisture meter. Third he lifted every cover, and entry way that would lead to the stringers, forward, a mid ships, and aft. Pulled cowling aside and looked at engine as it was running in the water and idling. Checked fluids, out drive operation, trim etc.etc. Also trim tabs if the boat them. The Avenger I bought, he said might have been one of the better Penn Yans he ever surveyed. I think that is due to the fact that the boat wan't in the water except for fishing. It was towed everywhere to fish by the original and secondary owner. He used an awl as a spike to test the wood, he used a small longish drill bit to drill into the wood to look at the wood that came out and he used the moisture meter on the stringers etc etc.Pretty much took him 6 hours or so to complete the survery, then he wrote it up in a nice multi page report. This report answers specific questions as to moisture content above and below the water line. He also looked at and tested every electronic device on the boat. He then will tell you what he thinks the boat is worth, at least he did with the Penn Yan. Paid about 1600 below what the boat was determined to be worth. Pid $450 for the survey and worth every penny imho. So there ya go.
  24. I use a combination of Magda Pro 30's, Cabelas Daiwa made 20's and Catalina 25's The Pro's on wire, the Catalina's on riggers, and the Cabela 20's made by Daiwa on the boards. Never had a complaint for any of them. Catalina's are so far superior to any of my other reels you just can't compare them, then I think the Magda's for what they are and what you pay are very very decent, and then the Cabelas. Never had any of them malfunction in any way in 4 years of fishing Lake O. thanks
