    Good info. thanks. How full of a spool do you run? Right up to the top of the wider part of the spool or to where it transitions from the narrower part of the spool to the wider part. You know there is like a step on the spool. I normally fill right to the top of the spool or nearly so but that seems like it might be to much and is why I have the problems I do with wire. thanks

    The other question I might as well pose is if I were to run braid as a backing and wire on the terminal side how much backing would I need to put on if I wanted split a spool of the 1000 ft wire on a Okuma Magda 30. thanks

    Its a spool, Magda 30, couldn't remember if you called the spool a spool or bail, but bail is on a spinning reel now that I think of it. What about running braid and wire together with flouro carbon leader or mono leader? I'm figuring I could buy a big spool of the braid and 1000' of torpedo or the like. Just seems like wire is a big pain in my arse especially if it is rough on the lake, cause that it seems is when I tend to get kinks and such. thanks

    I think on my divers this year I am going to try running braided line. What is the breaking strength you guys would recommend. It will be going on Okuma Magda 30's. Just tired of the wire thing. Especially when it frays on the ends. The other question I have is how full is full on a bail? Where do you stop winding? thanks

    I owned one for a couple of years, a 24'. But handled much larger than that. From the end of the sprit to the back of the salt water transom the thing was about 31' or so. Took up a full dock at Hughes and then some. The boat I thought was a superb boat for Lake O. Our problem was we couldn't keep a two stroke on it. Both we had blew up. One was a rebuilt from Arney's and that blew up twice. That being said it was a great boat imho for as much as I know about boats. Wide open for fishing, had a decent cuddy, dry ride, handled big waves good, and looked like it was going fast just sitting at the dock! What it came down to is could we justify putting a large dollar motor on an older boat, ours was an 89. So we sold the boat for a pittance with trailer, and bought a used but fully surveyed Penn Yan Avenger. We always used Amish bags on the Pro Line and we use them on our Penn Yan. Running both bags I can slow the boats down to right about 2 mph over land speed, but the thing I like about the bags is a much more stable ride in heavy seas. I didn't go out much in over 6' in our Pro Line, but the Avenger, I have had out in 8 to 10' and frankly as long as we were quartering into them it wasn't bad. Although I did have a very experienced Charter Capt. with me! The Pro Line was hard to fish though, in the sense that it didn't have any padding around the gunwales so fighting a fish you would tend to get bruised up a bit if it was a good chop.That's it.

    2 grand to steer my boat. Holy crap. Not out of the realm of possibility but 2 grand. There has got to be an easier way that is near as good. Intellisteer by Octopus is what I have been looking at but haven't pulled the trigger yet. thanks

    I was thinking of that Mackeral. I don't know how hard that would be to do, but if Dick did it it couldn't be that hard! I think I would need a new ram though. I will look into it for sure though. Hey did you read my text I sent to ya on the fella that you towed in last Fri. Dragged his outdrive up the ramp and across the parking lot. F'd his prop up too. I was yellling to him but kind of ignored me or maybe didn't hear me. thanks

    Go to Home Depot and buy 2 half inch plastic pipe hangers and bolt them together. Run you line through along where the 2 edges meet, kind of forms a mini trough, and that will take fleas off pretty quick. Terrible last night off Hughes. Even on my wire. I have heard if you soak a rag with WD40 and use it on your line as you play it out that will defeat them for a while. Ok thats it.

    That is what I have heard about the Octopus system. They make an Intellasteer system too but don't know if you can pair with any GPS systems. I've a Lowarance HDS 5 chart/plotter. I've also a Garmin GPS on my old boat I might pull off and use just for the GPS function. Anyways thanks for responding.

    I have no idea why this boat is still here. I looked at this boat with my wife 2 wks ago Tues coming up. This is pristine condition and just a nice big Great Lakes fishing boat. I was torn between this boat and a smaller Penn Yan. The Penn Yan won out through the influence of my wife. Almost twice as expensive as this boat but not better I don't think. Anyways you all should take a look at it. Just a nice safe big water fishing boat. thanks and yep I'm done spouting off.

    Just took delivery of a Penn Yan Avenger. Has rotary steering in it and want to put an auto pilot in it. My old boat had hydraulic steering with a Garmin GPS matched to a Ray Marine 1000s and it workd very well "most of the time". So what system do you all recommend for the Penn Yan and who installs them that is reliable? I fish out of Hughes. thanks PS did a search and all that and frankly don't know that much about auto pilots other than the fact on my Pro Line you turned it on, linked with the GPS and off you went

    Just and FYI to everyone, I checked this boat out on Tues. It is BETTER than what he states and I ain't kiddin. Now just doing a walk around etc mind you, but it is clean. Extremely well done and kept. He's a tool maker by trade as I understand it and every single tool maker I've ever meant or known is anal about how there stuff works and is kept. This boat is no exception. It's big too! thanks

    I fished this past Sat. with Holy Mackerel, in his Lund. The Big O was to say the least SNOTTY! Might be biggest waves I have fished on Lake Ontario in my short fishing career. Stayed high and dry in Mackerel's Red Baron. Didn't get beat up at all. That boat is hooked up too. Very nice fishing platforms. thanks

    I run the Buggy bags on my 25.5 Pro LIne. I have a 2 stroke 225 Ocean Runner, and a Merc. 9.9 2 stroke that can't keep up with heavy wind and waves so use the bags quite a bit. I run them off the bow rail mid ship. Never had a problem. I try to get them even off port and starboard. I can slow down to around 1.5mph over land speed if I need to but like to run about 1300-1400 rpms and that equates to about 2.4-2.9 mph over land speed depending on the wind direction, wave height direction etc.etc. I also will run them with the kicker too. Seems the kicker will run a bit better at higher rpm's with the bags. The biggest thing my wife likes is that with the bags out in heavy wave action it sucks the boat right down onto the water and takes out alot of the beating you would take without them. Much more stable ride and I have a heavy boat and it makes it that much more comfortable.

    I feel your pain about engine issues trust me. It got so last year I was more nervous than a whore in church to take my boat out. Took it back to Arney's and found 2 pistons cooked. Under warranty but man totally frustrating. It was a rebuilt engine and now it is rebuilt again!

    Well I mis spoke about the reels. These are now called Strata Maxx reel. Same features, 4 bb, 250yds of 25lb on the 20 size reel, machined alum spool, carbon drags, etc.etc. Strata Maxx, not the Stratamaster name. thanks
