I'm not knocking Humminbird units by any means, but don't overlook Garmins units. They have a similar feature as Autochart Live and it's call Quickdraw Contours. I'm extremely happy with mine. I also take the maps I create in the boat on the ice with me. It's been a game changer. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
In my opinion, no pre loaded map will be anywhere near as accurate as the ones you will make. I run Garmin units but both accomplish the same thing. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
You would think that a lot of bait, and the biggest fish, between the two lakes would relate to the one with the most diverse structure. I'd put in some solid days there and go fish less just to see. I'm pretty used to that anyways. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
So they are stating that it is ok to take a photo with an out of season fish? So, technically I can fish for pike after the season closes even though I'm fishing for lake trout since they are open year round in certain water and inhabit the same areas that time of year? Lol, what a joke. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
I don't see what is so hard to understand. Don't spend any unnecessary time with an out of season fish. Pretty clear to me. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Jan/ Feb 2017 Muskie Mag
First off, thank you to Bob Solley for once again getting our chapters article into the mag. Great job! Also, for those who haven't read through it yet, there is an excellent article written jointly by Muskies Canada president Peter Levick and Muskies Inc field editor Kevin Richards. I was very fortunate to be able to make this trip. Meeting these guys and both Dr. John Farrell and Dr. JP Lablanc was such an exciting trip and a real eye opener of the very real threats that exist for our St. Lawrence seaway fishery. Take the time to read the article, you will be glad you did.
They do inhabit the same spawning areas on the St Lawrence and Niagara. That is why more tigers are being caught every year. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
I can say that I have lost a fish one time due to a dull hook. One time is all it took. You can dull a hook on a rock your first cast and be screwed the rest of the day if that's the hot bait. 30 seconds and you're sharpened up.Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
I would have to disagree 100%. Sharp hooks are a must when trying to penetrate an esoxs mouth. Every cast made with even one dull hook out of the 6 or 9 on the bait is a waste of time.Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
I use VMC hooks as they sharpen nice and typically are good to go out of the box. A lot of larger hooks come dull in the box from being tossed around or weren't needle sharp when they left the factory. A quick filing takes care of that, no big deal. Most 3x or 4x hooks will work regardless of brand. A flat chainsaw file is all you need. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
The percentage of anglers who use correct methods to fish with live bait certainly blow away the percentage who do not. That's like playing the role behind current gun control laws they are trying to pass. Because of a few bad apples it should be hard for everybody? For the ones who do the right thing? That's rediculous.

I can give you the number to one right down the road. I had one last year that weighed 2.24lbs. I think he charged me 6 or 7 bucks for it.

You can get certified bait from a licenced bait shop and transport it anywhere in nys along with a receipt from the distributor which makes your bait legal for 10 days. I do it all winter long.
