  1. Depends on where you are going out of. Out of the west or more east. But for the most part I start in 120' and head north (I fish out of Sodus Point). Find the temp break and fish just above it. I run a 10 core off an inline planer (some days I add an 8 core too). I run two dipsies (or 3 if I do not run the 8 core). Mag dipsy inside at 1.5 setting and a regular dipsy outside at a 3 setting (longer rod on the outside). I run 2 riggers with fixed (or sliding) cheaters. The speed I like is 2.3-2.6. I run mostly spoons but always have at least one meat rig and one flasher fly out. Find out what they want and what depth, then adjust. This year's colors for us have been black/silver and green/silver spoons, green shaded meat, and "like" an emerald crystal color fly. The hazy smokey overcast skies will dictate color and glow patterns.
  2. I am sure his arms were burning and you were excited as heck for him!
  3. I took a teen fishing today (a great kid my buddy knows). An appreciative teen who deserved some salmon experience. Fished from 5:30 until 10:30 in the same area as yesterday, 65' to 80' down in 180 to 250 fow. We went 7 for 9 and had two knockoffs best results were inside 210'. Largest fish was just over 14 pounds. We could not find anything bigger. We did catch a 7 pound brown 80 feet down in 200 fow (which was a nice surprise). NBK and Black Wiggle (or Weezer) did all the work.
  4. Fished from 5:30 until 10:45. 65' to 80' down in 180 to 250 fow. We went 8 for 11 (lost one at the net...I wasn't netting, and I lost 2 others [one was of good size and fought with me for three minutes before he let go]). NBK was the hot spoon pattern; only took one on meat. I got our sixth one for the box (19 pounds 8 ounces) and we cleared the rods on one side and did a couple of dance steps with the wire divers as the fish went over and under a couple of times. I thought I would lose number four, but we got it. As we were reeling this in, our meat rig took a hit so we reeled that in and released it quick as we could (10 or 11 pounder I'm guessing). The black flies were horrible. The fleas weren't much better at times, they were collecting on the swivel to the fish hawk. Here is our biggest of the day. I had a pretty good laugh as my buddy almost went in while taking the picture.
  5. Not sure if this works: IMG_3213 (1).mov
  6. Thanks Mike. It has been a slow frustrating process for us this year, but it is a process (I am not quite like you and the time you put in on Seneca though).
  7. We went 6 for 8. Largest was a 21lb 4oz salmon (caught on a yellow tail moonshine), higher on the line with a fixed cheater at the same time we had an 18" salmon (nbk); my buddy thought he was tangled on a dipsey. The last fish of the day was a 12 lb 1 oz steelhead. At one point we only had two of the six lines in. One of the lost ones ripped the dipsy as we were deploying it (fought it for two long runs, then it ran at the boat and I was not ready for it [stupid mistake]). Caught another steelhead after our dipsy snagged the 8 color and I was hand lining the lead out as I was pulling the board to the boat to get untangled. All but the last fish were caught in 325' or more anywhere from 65' to 80' down. NBK and a Blue/Glow NBK Stinrays took the most hits. We had to work to get the last three fish. Temp was 50 degrees down to 80 feet so we kept searching for the water we wanted for the fish. I did not get a good picture of the steelhead to show the size (2nd pic).
