When u say "mountain" do you mean the one located straight out from North East harbor?

I have buddys who can't afford to buy meat or fish for their families on a regular basis. Any my family loves fish as well. Whatever we don't eat, I donate to my less fortunate friends. I love being able to stock up their freezers for the winter. I figure if they can take bullets for me in Iraq and Astan, the least I can do is keep their bellys full of fish and venison. So to answer your question….I keep just about every legal walleye and salmon I catch. Now lake trout…..they go back in the water.

I mostly target walleye and lakers out of Barcelona on Erie. I would really like to dial in on some steelhead but have never had consistent luck. Can anybody give me some idea of where to fish for steelies out of Barcelona? I have downriggers, dipsys, and a Fishhawk X4D probe. I usually find the thermocline, and then set my spoons and flies from 10ft below to 10ft above it, trolling 2.2 - 2.8mph. But I'm lucky to catch one a day.

what part of Ontario would you be fishing?

Ive had luck with the bayrats for erie walleye out of North East and Barcelona. Flashy Muff Mystery Machine My Secret Purple Pumps Sweet Lips Watermellon My Renosky's are still outfishing the Bayrats. But I have noticed that the smaller OAL of the Bayrat is allowing the fish to engulf the entire bait and both hooks for solid sets. I like that a lot. Often times on my Renoskys the fish only has the tail hook in its mouth.

Yesterday I averaged 29in and 8.5lbs over my 12 fish limit. Had a few over 32 inches. One 10lb 9oz. All of mine came in 70-82fow. baits running 10ft below to 10ft above the thermocline

We slaughtered them today. Boxed out by 830. Dipsy divers and down riggers. All on purple and chartreuse stick baits. Thermocline definitely set up. Water temp 58-63 degrees above 45ft down. At 45ft down...temp dropped to 54. Took some viscious hits on the dipsys.

I will be heading out Friday morning. I'm going to motor east up to Brocton Sholls. I'll let you guys now how I'm doing.

same for me. fished east of the harbor, up through brocton shoals. All my walleye came off the dipsys + purple and chartreuse Renoskys run right along the bottom in 58-65fow. Nothing hit up higher in the water column. I wont even attempt to put out a worm harness with how bad the white perch are.....

Got a chance to use the bags over the weekend out of Barcelona. Man I like how easy they are to deploy and bring in. I have to tweak the length of the ropes a bit. When deployed the 1/2in twisted nylon rope stretched a bit over the course of the day. The bags ran nice and tight right beside the boat, and ended a few inches before the transom. They dry real quick as well. They took me from a 3.2mph SOG to 1.5-1.8mph if I just clicked the boat in gear. I had to give it a tad more gas to keep me in the 1.8-2.2mph range. I noticed no difference in fuel consumption or oil pressure. My Airmar transducer shows much less interference compared to the trolling plate as well. For you guys with autopilot….Maybe I don't have my bags running deep enough….or maybe it was the wind or waves. But I noticed my autopilot working a little bit more to keep a straight course when going INTO the waves. I was hoping the bags would help smooth that out I usually only troll with the waves for this reason. When going with the waves, the autopilot tracks perfectly. And even better with the bags out. But the bags didn't seem to improve my ability to troll INTO the waves. Kinda bummed about that. But overall, these bags are really really nice. I wish I would have never put a trolling plate on my outdrive. Now I have some holes to patch in the aluminum.

I have only been logging surface and down temps for 2 years now. Because that's how long I have had my temp probe. And what my data is showing so far is that outside of shore fishing the spring walleye spawn, the deeper Erie walleye bite started to pick up when temps 30-40ft down reached 58 degrees. My log book has shown a significant spike in hook ups starting at 58 degrees. My hook up rate reached it greatest amplitude between 65-68 degrees, then leveled off and maintained the throughout the rest of the summer. And then fell off in the fall. I guess what I'm trying to say is the bite, for me, only really turns on at 58. Between the 65-72 degree range the bite "maintains". Not getting any better. It's at its "peak" for me. Now all of this is dependent on your methods of fishing as well. Where you're fishing. How you're fishing. What baits you're using. Etc. I have my own theories about why the Erie walleye out of Barcelona like those temps. Maybe my thinking is wrong. Maybe it's right. Maybe some of both. But everything else staying the same on my boat, the data from the temp probe log is showing me the pattern

I've always noticed that the walleye action doesn't pick up until 58degrees. Between 62-68 degrees and the action is usually on fire. These are down temps. Not surface temps.

We fished yesterday as well. From 5am-3. Landed 7 walleye. Averaging 8lbs and 32in. Also landed a bunch of lake trout and silver bass. The walleye bite was good if you could find the warm wAter. I used my fishhawk probe to find water 58 degrees or warmer down 40ft. And when we did the walleye action was good. All on stick baits. Purple and chartreuse Renosky and Thunderstucks.

Me too. I always do a radio check before I leave the harbor. And I always respond back to people asking for checks. Its a safety and courtesy thing. I check my DSC maybe once a month or so. Or If I change from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario.

I am planning on fishing Chautauqua this saturday. Anybody else going out? Ive lost my fishing buddy this year and have been going out solo. Looking to have someone to chat to about how the day is going. I fish the northern portion of the lake…usually from the state park up to the bell tower….on the Prendergast side.

I use both the crystallina and mirror image Renosky stick baits for walleye. The purple and pink colors always produce. Wonderbread, chartreuse, perch, leopard, and trout work well too.
