  1. Just a quality clip at end of floro leader. Swivel or bead chain between main line and floro. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. There is. The Fishing Hot Spots maps show all of this stuff...if you can find one. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Launch at Henderson. Run to Shipping Lane or Mountain. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Plain pledge is best for isinglass. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. I know someone that fished the Lane this week, and did not hit 'em real good. A few fish came to the net, but not great numbers for the ride out there.
  6. A couple things to consider with braid for dipsies: 1. Fleas usually stick to the braid worse, but then again they stick to wire and mono too. 2. The thicker the line, the better. Even though a lighter braid will hold the pull of a mag dipsy just fine, a heavier, say 65# braid is thicker and maybe the fleas won't adhere as badly. I am using 65# PowerPro and have really good luck with it as far as fleas. They are there, but manageable. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Yes. LakeVu does cover Lake Ontario. The Garmin BlueChart does too, but it lacks detail in some of the bays. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Garmin units with the LakeVu built in are really nice. The echomap plus units are hybrid touch and have programmable soft keys you can make bring up any screen you want automatically. You do get bells and whistles, but the new Garmin stuff is just really nice.
  9. Great Lakes Planers makes some really nice, stout and customizable arches. He can/will make or customize to anything you want. This is a local business(Three Mile Bay, NY) and knows what we need here on Lake Ontario. www.greatlakesplaners.com
  10. If I remember, you bought a Proline 231 with a 5.7 that needed to be rebuilt? 42 MPH would be a little faster than factory spec for that boat. Maybe you just need to dial back the carb a little. Maybe you've already done that. Just a thought. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. I see. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. One thing I have always wondered about hydraulic steering on the main engine and trolling with a kicker. I assume there must be some form of hydraulic pump to move the Seastar cylinder. I, maybe falsely also assume the pump is powered by the big engine. If someone is using just the kicker, how does the Seastar get it's power to steer? Maybe a stupid question. 13. I have only been out opening day. Worked both shores of BRB. Pillar side was a parking lot. Sacketts side from Mill Creek to buoys produced a lot of bites but had trouble keeping them buttoned up so can't say what they in fact were. Managed two. A friend went out next day, same spot and never tipped a rod. I think in general it was spotty in the bays. A few here and there. The guys that always, get 'em, got a few. Others really struggled. VERY cold water except for mouth of BR.
  14. What's the asking price now? Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Yes, a 110V receptacle will work just fine. Two things to remember: make sure you have a fuse or breaker close to your power source with wire heavy enough to withstand the draw you'll have on it, and those big jons will run normal or in reverse. Meaning, if you plug in upside down, up on the switch will be down on the rigger. Simply flip the plug over and they will be right. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Pretty sure this one is sold.
  17. Dipsys are easy. Just be sure to run them at like a two setting each side so they stay outta your riggers. Research how to adjust the weight and which way to turn it per side. As far as your lowrance, the navionics stuff is good. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Zinc is for salt. Magnesium is best for freshwater. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. I'll take em. I sent you a PM. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Yes. Also, IO's are notorious for wandering all over the place. I am assuming you have an IO. All the weight and drive are in the very back of the boat, making the bow light. Plus, you put a couple adults back there, and it is worse. Put bags out, keep them midship, trim your drive all the way in, and consider some weight for the bow and it will help. 21. I’m also thinkin this will be the last year with my trophy and may look into gettin a new boat for next year. Run it with bags this year, and look for something all set the way you want it next year. May cost you, but at least it's all set. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Kind of a different direction, but I keep mine in a kitty litter bucket(minus the kitty litter). The square shape seems to fit them better than round and they are protected pretty well in there. I struggled with the same problem you addressed. I found the bucket drifting one day, scooped it up to do the right thing, and found that it holds the inlines pretty well. I have 8 in there right now. Just a thought. 23. One can buy battery cable in any length from Napa. Go the second battery route, and put the starter battery in the bow of the 14'er. Probably needs a little weight up there anyway. Route the longer battery cables where you want them, or like them and be confident with both motors. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. I literally had this same convo with a captain that has forgotten more than I know. He said the same. Higher tow line is better. Put a cheap carabiner on tow line, pull it down to attach planer release and send it down and out. I have berts masts and they are TALL. I was going to cut them. He said no way, no how. Do the carabiner and you will be thankful. The further forward the masts are, the better too. Better angles to the boat, easier to retrieve and better vision. 25. Depends on how much you want to spend, and what you plan on doing with the rod holders. Dipsys? How many dipsys per side? Planer boards? How many per side? If you mix and match your holders, you can save a lot of $$. For instance, the cannon track is cheapest, but their multi axis holders are not cheap. However, the lexan Bert's rod holders are a nice price, but you can't run dipsys outta them, while they will hold your planer rods nicely. I have run three per side of the lexan holders for my planer rods, and one per side of the Bert's ratcheting for my dipsys, all in 36" of cannon track and saved a lot of $$. Was it all color and finish matched? No. Did it fish really well, and save some $$? Yes. Just depends on what you want. Sent from my moto z3 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
