Navionics and C-map sonar recording
wicked walleye replied to wicked walleye's topic in This Old Boat
So when I zoom out the contour lines are supposed to disappear? I'd like to see a larger view so I can see where different small humps and pockets are without having to scroll all over the place. -

Navionics and C-map sonar recording
wicked walleye replied to wicked walleye's topic in This Old Boat
One thing I noticed last night. I loaded lake erie and lake Ontario onto the navionics card. I checked the boxes for "nautical charts", "Sonar Charts" and "Community edits". I then installed it in the Lowrance. I chose the option to read "Navionics" on the finder and turned on the "Sonar Charts". I want to see the 1' contour lines. I noticed that I only get the 1' contour lines if I zoom WAY in. If I zoom out to where I'd like to be the contour lines disappear and go back to a view that is like you turned off "Sonar Charts". I'd like to be able to zoom out as far as I want and still see the 1' contour lines. -
Navionics and C-map sonar recording

I guess this explains why there is hardly any "shared" sonar on lake erie. East of Cleveland anyway. -

I purchased a Lowrance elite 9 ti that came with a C-map card and a Navionics+ card. My question is when recording Sonar. Can I use any SD card and then upload the info to both Navionics and C-Map? Or do I have to have my Navionics+ card inserted into my Lowrance to record sonar for Navionics and my C-map card inserted while recording to update to C-Map?

Freezer doesnt count. I do know that.

I just talked to the regional office and was put on hold for a while (they were'nt really "positive"). But the final answer was they didn't "think so" because of the "possession" law of one daily limit with the only exception being if you fished for two days then you can have two limits. If you went home and filleted them then went back out in pa an got a pa limit I don't see how it could be illegal since at one time I was technically in "possession" of about 60 walleye in my freezer. Hmmm. I'm not trying to be greedy but I have a lot of people who don't/can't fish that I give fish to and a limited amount of time that I can fish.

I'm a PA resident. My question is if I purchase a NY licence can I launch out of North east Pa, go to NY waters (It's just a few miles), catch a limit, then return them to the truck and go back out and catch my pa limit in pa?

Can't help you much there Tim beyond what has been talked about already. If you have an HDS Lowrance you can purchase their AP for $1000 for JUST the kicker but you won't have throttle control also. I went with the new Garmin Reactor 40 but it was $2600.

Terrible business plan there. How many people would pay $1000 for autopilot? Probably a ton. How many people will pay $2000 for the fish finder to run it? Not many. The rep on the phone basically said that's why it's only offered on the HDS "There has to be a reason for people to buy it over the Elite." After hearing that and waiting on the phone for as long as I did to speak to two people that wouldn't know a walleye from a trout. I'm going to hope I don't have any tech questions for this Elite Ti and from now on go with a different brand.

Well that solves that. First of all it took me an hour and a half to speak to someone I understood. The first guy didnt know that a mercury 9.9 kicker was an outboard engine. The second guy didnt know lowrance had autopilot for outboards. The third guy finally told me that only HDS ff will control the auto pilot. At Garmin I had an English speaking American on the phone within 1 minute that has actually installed and ran their autopilot. Garmin it is.

Thank you for the tips. I'm researching the trollmaster now. Looks like most people like itroll better. I have no experience with either. I just know I HATE having to try to fine tune the speed with the tiller handle.

Dang you. Now I'm going to have to call Lowrance tomorrow and see exactly what they have. It would be nice to save $1000.

Glad there's a few options out there. Wish the lowrance had throttle control. It only works with an HDS? Their website listed Elite Ti/Ti2, carbon and Live also. Either way I think the Reactor 40 kicker is the way to go for me. Might have to fabricate some sort of larger rudder for those rougher days.
