I just took delivery of my new to me 1998 Bayliner 2859 Cierra Express hardtop. New electronics are a must have. I will be primarily trolling Lake Ontario and cruising a bit as well. I plan to get a 9" Lowrance. Trying to decide between Hook-9 Mid/High DownScan, Elite-9 CHIRP or HDS Gen2 Touch. Any suggestions or pros/cons? I will be putting on a new transducer. Through hull or stern mount? Pros/Cons?

Sodus 5/12
jacobj12k replied to ryonybony's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
So...back to ryonybony's topic, Sodus reports being scarce. I've been reading quality reports from Oswego and Niagara with some decent reports in/near Irondequoit, but not much from Sodus. I have been launching from Bear Creek for the last year, but just bought a bigger boat and will be keeping it at Sodus Marina so I will be fishing waters I've never covered. Bear Creek area has not been very productive for me the last couple weeks. Screens have been pretty bleak. Lakers were going strong a few weeks ago, but even they seem to have dispersed from that area lately. -
Wanted WANTED - Fishing/Cruiser Boat
jacobj12k replied to jacobj12k's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Thanks, lakebound88. I've looked at that boat online and Sea Ray 330 Express Cruisers that are similar. With this stupid weather I may not be in a hurry so plenty time to look at options. Though I was out with my girls on Easter in my little boat catching Browns before winter finally decided to show up. -
Wanted WANTED - Fishing/Cruiser Boat
jacobj12k posted a topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I'm looking for a boat to troll Lake Ontario that will comfortably accommodate sleeping at least 4. Plan to spend weekends on the boat with slip in Sodus and make trips to other ports on the lake with family and friends. The boat MUST be a fishing boat first! I will spend more time trolling than leisure time on the boat. Must be able to have 2-3 down riggers and other rod holders. My wife and two daughters are keen to have a decent cabin to sleep and hang out in. I'm trying to stay in the neighborhood of $25k. Maybe more for the perfect fit. I'm looking at boats anywhere from 25-33'. I'm reasonably new to NY as I moved from Minnesota a couple years ago so getting into a boat this big is new to me and I'm beginning to understand the combination fishing/cruiser I'm looking for is not very common. Also interested in hearing from LOU members where to go for tips/assistance outfitting a boat if I end up with a boat that I need to add all the fishing gear to. I'm pretty handy, but want to ensure I do it all right the first time and would pay for certain things to be done. Maybe one of you guys that feel lonely fishing and aren't getting the use out of your boat that you used to would like to sell it to a nice guy that would pay you to take you out fishing in your boat -
Thank you, Legacy and L&M. I'm confirmed with Captain Vince on Friday, Mar 11. Can't wait! Of course I'll be scratching that itch by fishing one of the creeks to the NE of me tomorrow morning

I was just looking at guides for Niagara...haven't fished there yet and my girls, wife and mom could enjoy waterpark while my dad and I fish...could even make some money at a casino while there. Any referrals for guides in that area?

What is the best bet for catching trout in a couple weeks? I'm new to NY (Webster) a couple years ago and my parents are coming out to visit. Last year around this time I took my Dad down to Canadice ice fishing but this year it looks like I my need to fish open water. I question taking my little boat out on Lake Ontario since I haven't run it all winter and there could be ice in the way of getting out of the access. I figure we may be able to find steelhead and browns running tribs, but would love to get out in a boat and troll or hit the Salmon River...I plan to go fishing either Thursday or Friday so we can pursue fish that haven't been bothered by other fisherman and not bump shoulders with anyone. Any suggestions? PM me if you don't want to put your secret spot on blast

2nd year hunting in NY. 2nd day deer hunting in NY. Last year it took me a couple hours to get one for the wall. The first one my wife has let me hang inside the house! Right at 7:10am this morning a nice buck is walking towards me and wind was on my side. He gets to about 70 yards and stops broadside in a good clearing so I throw a slug out of my duck hunting, no scope, no rifled barrel or choke, great for killing ducks gun I won at an RMEF banquet a few years back. I missed. Lucky buck bounds to cover and then slowly walks away with a couple wags of the tail. 35 minutes later I climb down to be certain there is no blood. While walking the direction the buck walked off and not seeing any blood I catch movement a long way through the woods. I confirm it is a deer and it is walking my direction. I crouched down so the crown of a hill blocked the deer's view of me. Popped my head up and see it is a buck and still walking my way. I use a couple tress he is passing as an opportunity to stand up and look ahead of him for openings. He walks broadside into a narrow opening and I let one go. He runs off in a direction I can't see him and I'm left thinking "I damn well better not have missed again!" Great blood trail about 60 yards and he's done! Unusual beams with no points, just a couple short brows and a broken off G2 on one side. Looks like he's been fighting and getting beat up a bit with a tear in his ear, a scarred eye and a healing wound on the top of his head. Old Man No Tines! I had the meat dropped off at Constanza's (was closed but kind enough to let me drop off) and loins, straps, steaks and roasts packaged, labeled and in the freezer by 1:30pm on Opening Day! photo.php photo.php photo.php photo.php photo.php

I'll be out there early with my 10 yr old daughter and her friend from next door. It will be our neighbor's first time fishing in a boat. Any fish will be a personal best for her. My daughter Ashlynn will need one over 16lbs to be her personal best. John, I was thinking of fishing really shallow early and then moving out a little, but if you were seeing them in 90 I may go there. They've seemed to be at that depth for the last couple months. David, we going to see you out there with your dad? -

When you run a small boat, it is challenging to get out deep so you have to make the runs when you get the chance. Forecast for this weekend looks calm. I got out deep last Sunday morning and only boated two fish but one made the LOC Derby Steelhead leaderboard. I intend to get my daughter on the youth leaderboard this weekend. I launch out of Bear Creek. Little blue Lund pulled by white Tahoe. Say Hi if you're a LOU member. My forecast is for a slow bite but some quality fish will be caught and a few put on the Derby board. While I would love a 35lb salmon to win the $25k I think my chances are better getting another long Steelhead Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
