Getting closer all the time. Water temp on chaumont bay was 42 degrees sunday... Almost to critical temp. This weather should help.

8T is good hunting..... I shot my first deer and first buck in cameron. Have been hunting down there for 23 years. A lot of good memories.

Watched a yearling munch apples for about 20 min at around 930 this am. Packed it in shortly after. Could count the shots I heard today on one hand and they were all off in the distance. Despite the weather it was nice to be out.

Hunting ground blind in 7R this morning. I hear a little rustle off to my down wind side......A 10pt has poked his chest and head thru the golden rod and is laser focused on my setup. I can tell he is very uncomfortable and about to bolt so I try to dirty harry him..... He was gone before I could shoulder the gun...... He was a bruiser. I suck.

Our camp on the tug is a nightmare for wind..... It can change to seemingly all 4 directions on a given hunt and it loves to vortex or swirl. The wind is soo unpredictable. I will give the mapping a try. I always assumed the erratic wind was from terrain, elevation, and temp changes between lower and higher ground. But this is speculation..... Regardless, it makes hunting any stand with confidence difficult.
