Im guessing a few isnt an issue... But given the fact that they reproduce explosively is the real concern.

As I understand it, the asian grass carp poses real risk to the ecosystem.... By demolishing vegetation that would be used for cover or consumed by baitfish and smaller year class fish. Given the fact that the specimens recovered were in the 20-30 lb range and only about 36" long.... Thats eating a lot of salad!!

This may not be the proper forum for this topic but sadly this is going to effect our walleye fishery. I am at a loss for words really. The asian carp is a nightmare and now its in Lake O... The specimens discovered were up to 9 years old and sexually mature. Our days are numbered it would seem......

Stillwater, I face the same issues....l am relatively new new to walleye fishing and working out the bugs in my program. My boat is too big for an electric trolling motor and I dont want to put a kicker on it. The boat trolls too fast when bottom bouncing and Im simply forced to put it in and out out of gear to achieve proper speed. I pray for favorable wind conditions when fishing so that I can drift at proper speeds and maintain bottom contact. It is a real pain..... The things we do to chase fish!! I am experimenting with solutions. As for the walleye, no doubt in my mind it was a muskie that hammered it. It was shredded on top and bottom. Very cool.

I researched these motors pretty extensively as we were going to buy a grady i/o with the 460. Good little motor but x2 with what fisherdude said. Heat is the enemy of this engine. Some say that high quality lubricant is important with this power plant too But that of course is opinion. Good luck with your repairs. Hope you are back in action soon.

My 6 year old son and I are fishing "early" Sat am.... Hope the traffic is manageable with the favorable weather forecasted and bass opener. Looking forward to a productive day with any luck..... I love watching my boy reel in a feisty walleye.... He can barely hang onto the rod and loves every minute of it. Not sure who enjoys it more. Sure is great though. Tight lines guys.

John, thank you for the great tips and information!! Have you used the slip bobber technique on the SLR or Lake O? I look forward to giving this a try over the summer. Thanks again and tight lines!!

I think its fair to say that we all utilize presentations that work particularly well in the fisheries we target. Its hard to get away from tried and true fish producing tactics. I recently read an article in In-Fisherman about the importance of having several tactical arrows in your proverbial quiver when walleye are in a 'neutral' to 'slightly negative' feeding state. One of the methods suggested as an effective presentation when eyes are fussy is a slip bobber rig. It presents leaches or minnows just off bottom with enough action to trigger a strike. I thought this method was worth exploring this season. What are your thoughts on changing presentation- completely? When is it time to do so? How many spots do you check using tried and true before changing it up? Has anyone had any success with the slip bobber?? Thought this might make for some interesting insights. Tight lines!!!
