  1. My Cousin sent me this photo...... I really dont have any details on it other than it's pretty cool. Maybe I'm using the wrong bait?!
  2. Kevin PM
  3. At the beginning of the season i swapped my Jiffy model 30 10" auger blade (single chipper blade) for an 8" stealth blade at a local jiffy dealer. My thermal tip ups wont cover a 10" hole. The stealth blade has 3 cutting blades, for those not familiar with it. 2 very small blades close to center of drill and 1 large chipper blade in the usual location. When i got the blades I took them off, sharpened the hell out of them, and figured they would drill holes by themselves!!!! WRONG!!! It is so hard to drill a hole with this auger something must b wrong. It takes 2 guys leaning on it to get thru 6-7". Had a strike master before. Never it smoked holes. Any thoughts? Replacement blades for the stupid thing are like 75-85 bucks. Your insights are appreciated. PS engine runs like a champ.
  4. Kevin, good looking northerns! A good friend and SLR fishing guide I have known since I was a kid has always preferred eating Northers out of all the fish he catches. Cold water gator is some firm tasty meat! Nice catch.
  5. I know guys who have lost shacks..... Eager to get them on the ice with winters like the one we are having.... They are now "bottom structure"..... Unless its a heck of a shack, I would assume recovery is cost prohibitive.
  6. Excellent point Sam. The rain is really going to be a killer too..... Waited quite a while for decent ice and now it could be tough fishing conditions from here on out. Lets pray for some single digit nights soon!! Stay safe.
  7. Great great fish!!! And Michael Ringer continues to b the man in support of our great fishery...... Needless to say his watercolors are just amazing.
  8. Nice 80s throw back, rotfl!
  9. On the rise.... Lol!
  10. Forgot to mention, I think unit is 149 bucks. Great low cost unit.
  11. I bought a Vexilar TPod in May. Not really sure if I wanted to or really could afford a flasher but was dying to bring my game to the next level with some sort of sonar device. For those of u not familiar with the TPod, it is basically a floating transducer that connects to ur smart device via its own wi-fi signal. Your phone is the screen. I have never fished with a flasher before, but the information that is available to you when fishing is just amazing.... Display on this by the way is more like a traditional sonar, i.e. Hooks, bait pods, etc. However, to bassandbuck's point I can see how fishing with electronics is a total game changer in your fishing tactics. Awesome stuff.
  12. Cant really catch a break this winter. Had a decent freeze but not a really good one. Few warm days and some rain could make things dicy...... Hate this weather!
  13. It was beautiful weekend on chaumont.... Had sled out. Plenty of ice. Touch windy but it always is on the lake!
  14. Same issue. With deeper holes u have to clear snow or ice chips away so blades can continue to make contact with ice.
  15. Shacks were out there today.... Beautiful sight.
  16. Heard there will b fishable ice over next few days from a buddy that lives in New Hartford. Here is hoping!
  17. *Agreed! Physics = Awesome!![emoji106]ðŸ»
  18. Ice has formed in some of the more sheltered bays ... Finally! But it is very thin. 1.75-2". We will surely lose it tomorrow and over the weekend Im afraid:(
  19. We have ice in several of the small bays around chaumont area and we have a good snap of cold weather coming for the next 4 days..... Cautiously optimistic!!
  20. WOW..... That story is incredible. Certainly makes me reflect on some of the choices I have made in the past being eager to hit the ice....... Family and safety first these days. Completely agree with SK8. FLOTATION! Be safe out there.
  21. That does not look safe, lol
  22. Funny stuff.......
  23. Kevin, congratulations to u and ur family! What a blessing!! Both of my boys are December babies. Happiest of holidays to you and yours, and our LOU friends.
  24. I bought a bunch of new equipment over the last year. Few replacement items. Few upgrades. A buy here and a trade there when there was a deal........ Sure hope The jet sled floats!
  25. My long range weather app says that sustained cold temps are not going to arrive until about Jan 10. We have discussed the reliability of long range weather forecasts but this winter's temps are predicted to be all over the map!!! I am not looking forward to a season of sketchy ice[emoji45]. Looking into floatation I think this year.
